The odd thing about the fake Gameboy I've noticed is that it'll actually save in my cartridge copies of Gold and Silver, but only twice; every other Game Boy I have treats the cart's batteries as they are: Dead. I was always so jealous of my friend who got a new gameboy when he seen how awesome the games on mine were, but his dad got him the pocket with the backlight so he could play it on the bus a lot more than I could since it was always so dark. (He obviously let me play it too, was were I played the Metroid for it actually. )
i dont care about that,simply to play and remember the good old childhood days playing this fisically,and not on an emu for phone,its just awesome to press buttons !!
Actually on Amazon, Game Boy Pockets cost $15-$30 for regular ones, and rarer or limeted version going from $30-$50 as you stated (the Japanese Pink GBP, and Classic Game Boy style GBP). Modded ones I’ve seen as low as $55 to $130. So yeah they’re around the same price so just get a plain Game Boy Pocket instead of a GB BOY. Shipping is another deal, but since it’s Amazon, and I have Prime, it’s usually free to $4 shipping. (And yes, I know my stuff, I’ve bought about 5 GBPs.) Keep in mind, I am a US buyer, so it might very well vary in Europe and stuff but most I’ve seen ship worldwide so take that with a grain of salt. I'm confused why your GameBoy Pocket's screen is green. Is the backlight part of the screen itself, or did you have to use a regular Gameboy screen to add the backlight? To be entirely honest, the fake Pocket's screen looks identical to what the GameBoy Pocket's regular screen looks like, ghosting and all. I must have spent 200 hours on Pokemon with my Nintendo Power gold GameBoy Pocket, it definitely always bled pixels. I even turned it on just now to check, but at the same time being over 25 years old, I genuinely don't know if the ghosting I see today was quite this bad when it was first released, I'm not sure if the ghosting effect can worsen with time. If ghosting was the main issue, it's not really fair to use an official GameBoy Pocket with an entirely different screen in it. Overall from your review, the handhelds seem identical in every way except for the buttons. But unfortunately... those buttons look really awful, specifically that d-pad. When it comes to buttons, especially on a handheld, they just need to be good without compromise. But the fake Pocket makes the compromise anyway.

I noticed you don't mention the fact that the knock off pocket runs games too fast, the music is sped up and pitched up.

It's purposely back lit green to keep that nostalgia kick, but you can get other coloured backlit screens if need be. :)

Ya, that d-pad is horrendous. Nobody will be playing any GameBoy fighting games on this thing, as limited as GameBoy fighting games already are.
