Thank you so much for this video. I referred this video while applying for my daughter's OCI. I would appreciate if you could do a video on how long you had to wait to finally recieve the OCI card. I would like to add a few updates if at all it would be helpful for someone applying for OCI. 1. BLS service charge has changed from $7.40 to $1.70 (plus bank service fee for DD) I had applied for OCI on March 1, 2024. Though it was mentioned in the video to cross check the DD amount, I didn't notice that. It was when I contacted the customer service, I came to know about the change in the fee amount (she was so sweet, she explained everything from requirements to payment without even asking). I had to rush to the bank as I had scheduled pickup- drop off next day between 10 am to 2 pm. It is better to go to the website even now, while reading this comment to verify whether the amount has changed. 2. Pickup- drop off charge was $62 when I contacted the customer service. (When I applied there was no option in the website to choose pickup-drop off it seems) I had contacted the customer service as to save some money. 3. After doing the payment for pickup-drop off, you will have to download a label from the link send to your email. This label has to be pasted on the envelope ✉️ . The envelope will be provided by the courier service provider. 4. If you are a PR holder you will have to submit a copy of your CoPR as well (both the parents has to submit their CoPR and self attest it) 5. It would be better you schedule pickup Mondays or Tuesdays so that they will deliver early at the BLS office. I had scheduled pickup on Friday and I had to wait till Monday for them to deliver it to the BLS office. From there, it took 2 weeks more to deliver at the Consulate. 6. There are two Checklist forms available on the internet, make sure you download the latest one that doesn't ask for shipment number in the section, "Details to be filled by applicant" If you feel doubtful at any point, contact BLS customer service (especially if you have doubt with name of BLS Centre which is asked in, "Details to be filled by applicant") , they will guide you with updated information. The contact number is given at the bottom of the website. NB: You will have to take fingerprint of the baby twice, one for uploading during the online application part and the other for the OCI application printed form. Be prepared for it 🙂🤪😈 As the host of this video mentions, please take good care while doing OCI application, they will send back your application for the silliest mistakes you make. As mentioned, OCI fee has changed to $376 (April 2024) within 1 month. When I applied in March 2024, it was $345. Also, if you have booked tickets and not yet received OCI card, you can try for e-Visa which takes no time to fill the application and can be obtained within 3-4 days. It’s neither complicated as OCI application as well. Only required documents are Photo (same as OCI photo dimensions) and Passport copy for uploading. The fee charged is 41 USD (59.70 CAD) including bank charges. Make sure the details are entered correctly.
I apologize for the delay. It took almost two months for me to receive it, but some of my friends received theirs earlier, while others had to wait longer. It seems to depend on the person handling your application. If you need an Indian visitor visa, you can get it within one or two days. However, if you plan to stay in India for more than six months, you may need to obtain clearance from the district police superintendent, but I'm not entirely sure about this.

At the end of the checklist, it's saying the signature of the applicant (just above the for official use only). Is the parent's signature required there or is the baby's thumb required there?
Just for your information, my OCI application got returned because of putting NO in the relatives staying in India. Me and my wife both in Canada. you have to put 2 indian references in that section it is mandatory That is what BLS said to me.
Can the background color of the photograph be white or should it be any other light color as mentioned on the website? “It should have plain light color background (not white) without the border with front view of person's head “

Validity for the OCI is life long but you need to update the baby’s photo after 5 years. For OCI you don't need to exit the country after 6 months. Also For the visiting visa, you don't need to exit the country after 6 months but you need to report to the district police office with your baby and give an application.

Foreign nationals cannot apply for OCI in India while on Tourist Visa, Missionary Visa and Mountaineering Visa. Moreover, the foreigner has to be ordinarily resident of India to be eligible to apply for OCI registration in India.

Yeah.I haven't yet received the OCI. It's showing dispatched from New Delhi on 19 April 2024.

She is a Canadian citizen, so she can either apply for an OCI or obtain an Indian visitor visa.
But some people said we cannot apply for oci as we are on visitor status
