One more thing I forgot to say in the video: Because I live in Hawaii, I'm constantly flying with this guitar to other islands. Even through TSA, carrying it on the airplane, and even occasionally checking it in- I barely have to tune this up when I get to the gig. When I say this thing stays in tune- it REALLY DOES stay in tune!!

good to know- I had a custom Kiesel Vader made for travel as it fits in overhead compartment easy.

I don't have a Suhr but I got a Suhr neck pickup in my partscaster and it sounds awesome. Suhr is the only brand where you don't pay for the name you pay for the performance

I actually bought this guitar because I had previously installed Suhr pickups in my Strandberg. I was so impressed with the tone of their pickups, that it inspired me buy this guitar haha

Congrats man! Glad you’ve been liking it!! I bought a Satin around 2017 which convinced me to buy the Modern Pro (now the Modern Plus) around 2018. I’ve kept the Modern Pro since and it’s been my #1. The satin is cool because of the African Mahogany it’s made of with how resonant and lightweight it is.
And yesssss, those pickups are hot, specifically the bridge. For the volume drop you mentioned, someone had wired the neck humbucker on mine as a single coil which I really really like as the volume is even for positions 1-4 and then the bridge humbucker is my quick “solo setting”

Also…Suhr needs to make an approachable Modern guitar again. The fact that a Modern Plus is $3500 new now and a Modern Terra is around $3200, I remember the price new for entry with the satin was 2700 and the pro was 3k. I found my used Satin in 2017 at around $1500-1800? Now they’re well above the price I paid even just looking on used sites.

@@theblindsniper agree bought mine in 2017 for 2k now more expensive. All guitars now are crazy expensive. My custom Jackson Soloist is 1k more now than when I bought a couple years ago. Massive inflation.

Excellent and unbiased honest review of this guitar! Subbed as your honesty approach is refreshing. I love mine it is light and plays great and was a good buy a few years ago for me. Hope to see some demos of your playing too.

4:08 The Modern Satin doesn't have a stock push/pull (nor push/push) to split the humbuckers. That's a mod that someone else did.

If that guitar is breaking strings, I'd have that looked in to, especially if it's the same string and same spot. Old or new strings, I haven't broken one in probably 30 years. Strings shouldn't break unless there is a sharp edge somewhere.

They are discontinued aren't they? I've got eyes on this bad boy for awhile they really sound legit awesome. Its like you could direct input to a marshall stack and run a good gain and thats it. I love it!

      @JoshNamba  2 года назад +2

Yeah I believe the Modern Satin model is discontinued, but they have the Modern Terra models now!

@@JoshNamba its sad cause they're quite costly on other platforms. Even though u can get your own spec on their site, its nothing like their modern satin. I think they're the best guitar ever build in history.

@@danksdernansky4738 Tbh if I had it my way- I would've wanted to get a Suhr Modern Antique. They're kind of one-off relic'd models that Suhr would build for their distributors. But the Modern Antique's are way more expensive, and I'm glad I'm earning the antique look rather than paying for one haha

Thanks Josh for these info, it's very helpful, Im considering buying this modern Suhr. (I have a Kiesel playing perfectly but the wilkinson trem doesn't keep it in tuned, really annoying when performing or recording)

never been a fan of suhr but can't deny they make great stuff

  • @RobMasonguitar

Good video man, got the same guitar and there's no denying it's awesomeness. The volume drop in the split and middle position really winds me up though tbh, makes a lot of the sounds unusable live without extra messing around with boosts. To the point where I'm back on my hss strat which is perfectly balanced. I've had other hsh guitars that weren't anywhere near as drastic in volume drop. Of course for recording it's no problem and if you're a crank the amp and work the volume pot kinda guy then it works out great!

    • @JoshNamba

Oh I had no idea it was a problem specific to this guitar! Good to know!

I personally find their satin finishes sounds the nicest compared with their other modern finishes. Had a similar one but mine in black with OFR. And yes, ended being my no-1 in my whole collection.

Oh yeah I forgot about the Suhr gig bag! It’s a great quality gig bag, my only complaint is the shoulder straps are a little uncomfortable. Maybe I should make a video reviewing the bag…
