I love how Guthrie just seems to sound amazing with any amp, you can put him in front of a suhr, cornford, orange, whatever and he stills sounds great!
Agus Gonzalez Yeah, thats true. He would sound outstanding playing through my 35 watt solid state orange practice amp too. I have to go practice now. :)
Ok lets be real. How the hell is Guthrie even allowed to be this good! Its insulting for even the guitar gods of this world XD Always love to hear this guy play.
i realy like the way how he xplains him self, such a nice personality and what a nice guitare player (one of the best guitare players), respect from MOROCCO ;)
Your noodling is better than most players achieve in a lifetime... your theory is spectacular and exciting... my favorite guitarist by far. Everyone who has discovered you is grateful for it.
I work at the factory that "roast the maple" pretty much all tone woods have to be kiln dried. I personally do the wood for Fender, Ernie Ball, Washburn and others. So basically I have held that exact guitar.
I could watch/listen to Guthrie play/talk for hours. He's as charming as he is talented on the guitar. I hope to own one of his Charvel's one of the days.
@giuseppemare Roasted maple is when they stick it in a vacuum oven for a couple days at a moderately high temperature and in a near-vacuum. It apparently alters the cell structure in the wood and reforms it to be more stable. Also gets a nice caramel color to it.
it's really amazing how he can explain things so much in detail. so much in detail that he can make a picture in your head out of every word he says. :S
Such a humble guitarist, and respected musician, gilbert, cooley, and loomis are all great, but he's just something else.. Anyone who gives up normal things like never learning to swim or ride a bike just to dedicate it to guitar deserves the reward of the passion they put in.
@GreenDistantStar Different woods have different hardness and reflect different tones. I mean literally reflect those tones, back onto the strings. You are obviously aware that the acoustics are not directly detected by pickups, but the type of wood will reflect different frequencies back onto the string and hence through the pickup. Those vibrations travel better through solids than through air so they get back to the string easily.
Torrefied maple (what he calls roasted) is used in lots of woodworking applications where stability is a consideration. It's very interesting stuff. It's putting wood in an oven where it would burn if there was any oxygen - but there isn't - so it doesn't.
String resonance is affected by the materials to which they are anchored, as is true with pickup performance. Case in point, I have a solid swamp ash tele and a mahogany thinline tele. Both have the same pickups (Dimarzio Area T Noiseless, for those who care) and the same circuitry, same setup, etc. They sound radically different. Put both through a spectral frequency analyzer and you can visualize the difference in wave patterns and EQ. Of course, once you crank of the gain and add effects, most modern player's tone will be far less distinguishable when swapping guitars. I'll add to this that these differentiations matter mostly to the player, but not at all to the audience.
master of the universe sat on a chair with a killer suhr and a borrowed orange sending forth the heavenly vibrations that delight the drum of the ear with orgasimic boundless bliss, GUTHERS yes ENGLAND!!
@giuseppemare No they actually roast the wood in an oven, probably something like a pizza style oven or possibly something a little bigger. It pulls just that last bit of moisture out of the wood basically just making it harder, It is just a maple neck that they treated to make it tougher.
I just love this guy! "There's a lot clarity *Shreds Incredibly fast* for all that nonsense." And I agree with him completely on both parts, clarity and mindless fast scale playing is nonsense.
I saw someone else make this comment but I agree: watching Guthrie play for 5 minutes is like constantly changing channels on a tv, you'll get a variety of everything...except in Guthrie's case, it's always excellent.
Guthrie is the most talented guitarist on this earth. There is not a style he doesn't master. He is also very pleasant, if a bit unassuming and modest, to be around. I hope I get to hang around with him many more times.
Wood definatly does change the tone of the guitar. it is noticeable, one of my friends own's 2 Stratocasters, one an alder body, and one an ash body, both are american, both have Custom shop texas specials, and we tested both through the same amp with all the settings the same, and they do sound different, maybe not a lot, but you can hear a difference.
haha "all that nonsense' he just throws out a lick that I couldn't play if I tried for 100 years haha. Guthrie is the mellowest, coolest guitarist, such a cool vibe.
Well we have all known for a long while that GG is a legit wizard, yes at the guitar but also teaching and explanation and inspiration, and this video has incredible tone, no fizz, gravel not sand down the slide. Very evocative, one moment I’m thinking Les Paul into Marshall chewy crunchy seventies Billy gibbons and mh flirting with disaster and allman bros rip dickey and Derek slide tones, then he rolled back the tone on the neck HB clean and I got the smooth jazz tone from the Walgreens phone line waiting music. He’s so good, his music is prismatic, but he can even make wordless humor! Now that i think of it, I need to get a GG poster or tshirt for the inspiration. Also, I have a 2012 factory special run American special satin nitro strat that I love, I always wonder if fender sprayed the body in Mexico before bringing it to Corona for assembly. For whatever reason they are quite easy to find online and pricing hasn’t gotten too inflated. It has big fat frets and is so comfy for everything, especially bending and leads. I highly recommend it stock with its American standard pickups, or as a modding platform, or even as a Guthrie inspired instrument if you don’t want to shell out for a suhr or charvel gg, or settle for a Harley Benton or iyv gg copy, although I’d imagine the latter might surprise as more affordable guitars can these days. Censtar, a brand I’ve only seen on Amazon (US) has an HSH that seems gg suhr inspired, edge burst and all minus the rear routed trem system, got it in one of those random daily discount deals sub $200, and damn it’s a great guitar, not just for the price, but in sound feel and vibe. Lastly, I must have grown up without fancy heirloom furniture, bc people calling pretty guitars furniture pretty is opposite for me. I gutted and rehabbed my house and chose maple cabinetry in the bathrooms with a medium caramel stain. To my surprise and delight, there are many sections of beautifully figured maple, and I think, hey that look would be sexy on a guitar. Is it true that curly maple necks are less stable? Bc I love the look. I love satin finish for feel and looks, similarly to how I like roasted maple, or caramelized, baked, torrified, or whatever whoever calls it. I’ve always wanted to be a one awesome guitar man and just focus on making music, but I’m compulsive and now have so many guitars of all types I’ve lost count, from $89 Amazon strat to a many $G custom Alembic and many in between. 25.5” scale humbucker 24 fret guitars are my jahm, stacking some drive of the day with a tube screamer into a squishy compressor post drive with ambient effects and a looper into an edge of breakup tube amp, simple like a pro junior, Carmen ghia, Victoria Ivy League. All I need. And spring water. And beefsteak. And premium flower. And friends. And RUclips. And pretty women. Got high and rambled. Oops.
His fucking musical humor absolutely kills me every single time. Sweet child o mine made me die.
“Mumbai in August” that sounds like a jazz standard
Ozone killing toxic gas of doom sounds like a metal song
''Hi i'm Guthrie from the UK''
Understatement of the century
Haha ikr. Would've gone better with "I am the danger" BB
I think he was a little bit tired 😂
Well ,he is British , and " Hi . You know who I AM. THE GREATEST GUITARIST IN THE WOOOOOOORLD " ,would be a little vulgar .
that Sweet Child 'o Mine bit made me spit coffee all over the computer, lol
No, it didn't.
@@thorhbar1255 Imagine going necro on a 5-year-old comment just to demonstrate what a presumptuous arsehole you are.

This guy can play everything, I don't know if it's more frustrating or inspiring !! haha Amazing as always
"All of that nonsense..." you have to love this prodigy. His toss offs are better than the best of most of us arrogant/insecure wankers.
His warped quotation of sweet child o mine is one of the single best things I've heard
loooololol
So gifted yet so normal. A very rare combo for a genius.
yeah. well, sorta. sure
I mean, he looks human
OMG, the way he played Sweet Child o'Mine's intro was... well... genius!
"it's not a pretty maple top, it's just regular maple......tree colored."
I just love hearing him talk about and demonstrate things in such an intelligent way...he's brilliant. Just brilliant.
Amazing guitar AMAZING player. Such a genuine guy too, not even remotely cocky or showoffy.
He can just sound so good no matter what he's playing, i mean he's going through that orange amp and the tone is just incredible!
Toxic gas of doom :DD I love how this guy talks!
and I kinda like how he plays
***** gay!!
Malc180s Being Gay for Guthrie is quite natural
"Ozone killing toxic gas of doom"
- Guthrie Govan
I love how Guthrie just seems to sound amazing with any amp, you can put him in front of a suhr, cornford, orange, whatever and he stills sounds great!
Not to counter your point but that Orange Rockverb is actually a quite decent and powerfully able amp.
Saqib Saqib I know but that's the point, gotta know how to dial in the guitar
Agus Gonzalez
Yeah, thats true. He would sound outstanding playing through my 35 watt solid state orange practice amp too. I have to go practice now. :)

8:16 why did i laugh so hard at this
this guitar with this amp, it's a very good mix, sound amazing !!!
Great player and the variety of sounds from that guitar is fantastic.
this man is such a versatile guitarist...
He's omnigenre
Your noodling is better than most players achieve in a lifetime... your theory is spectacular and exciting... my favorite guitarist by far. Everyone who has discovered you is grateful for it.
gaaaah that quick button for the lead bridge is awesome!

You just got to love this guy!!! It is pure joy comming out of his fingers and face when he talks and play! What a musician!
Guthrie seems to excel in everything. He even talks intelligently in every interviews. It is like he is born to do all this...
There's an incredible amount of technical exercises here to master. Probable old practice friends of Guthrie's.
I love the depth of knowledge Guthrie has. He's a genuine wizard with words and can explain every nuence of detail so well.
@giuseppemare Roasted maple is when they stick it in a vacuum oven for a couple days at a moderately high temperature and in a near-vacuum. It apparently alters the cell structure in the wood and reforms it to be more stable. Also gets a nice caramel color to it.
Could listen to him all day
Dig this cat more and more. Never mind the chops; he's got a keen ear and great sense of humor. Thanks for posting.
it's really amazing how he can explain things so much in detail. so much in detail that he can make a picture in your head out of every word he says. :S
I was capable of recognize almost 17 different styles and genres of music and playing... Awesome Guthrie....
this guy is a huge inspiration for guitar. not only is he an incredible guitarist but he seems so nice and personal!
God damn. I just discovered this guy 2 nights ago and I'm falling in love. I can't get enough!
5:40 "all that nonsense" :-)
all that nonsense every mortal guitarist dreams to be able to play x)
Such a humble guitarist, and respected musician, gilbert, cooley, and loomis are all great, but he's just something else.. Anyone who gives up normal things like never learning to swim or ride a bike just to dedicate it to guitar deserves the reward of the passion they put in.
Yea, Guthrie’s the real deal! As good as it gets and he’s an amazingly cool dude!
Absolutely amazing guitarist. Awesome chords too.

Wow!.. in this 8 min demo of the guitar.. all I got was things that I couldn't imagine one person play so effortlessly!
It's from his solo album, the song "Slidey Boy"
One of the best guitar players on the planet IMHO. A true master of the instrument, he can play literally any style masterfully.
I love how he's painfully honest towards the suhr :D
I could listen to Gutherie all day whitout getting bored. Fantastic stuff
Guthrie gots skills! Love Suhr guitars!

4:01 Sweet Child O' Mine intro
Ello it's me again....Guthrieee...
superb, not only the playing but the info and the entire demo.
this is very effective advertising...i really want a suhr now
I like Guthrie he reminds me of my 60/70's art college days with erudite types floating about being very arty and cool
From the description, it is "The Suhr Guthrie Govan Antique Modern."
listening to new clips, with this guitar.. i think it sounds even better than previous signature model.
..another greatly underrated guitar genius....

Slidey boy at the end is just...UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
God, I love this guy...
I literally only watch this video so I can see him play that Slidey Boy excerpt. I want to see a live performance of that song SO BAD!
this man pleases me greatly :)
whats most impressive is how he knows what to play based on complimenting all the different distortions, but he's obviously a music genius
"It does *that*, if that's what you want it to do..."
Funny, and interesting stuff ... I love his little "classical jazz solo" !
Basswood + maple top = Holy Grail in tone. According to Suhr website. I agree. Now what neck wood would work with tight agressive pickups?
i dont even want this guitar but it is a briliant one and this guy is surreal he does the job amazingly one of the best all time
5:42 "all that nonsense..."
you have no idea how much of nonsense I can play Guthrie...

that guitar really does EVERYTHING! I MUST own one.
You got one past Dennis, you got one.
This guy is Amazing!
I'm glad there are those that don't exclaim "troll" or hail profanities at the slightest instance. And for that I thank you.
@Geborren That isn't actually a chord. It's just a note with an octave :)
Guthrie is the most talented guitarist on this earth. There is not a style he doesn't master. He is also very pleasant, if a bit unassuming and modest, to be around. I hope I get to hang around with him many more times.
Guthrie is amazing. He played on the entire Docker's Guild album and what he did was mind boggling.
The pickups are suhr ssv - ml standard - ssh+. The fl has been renamed to ml.
The man is first class
That Slidey Boy lick is amazing
Ozone Killing Toxic Gas of Doom
