Random Fix: Fixing a Blown XBox One Power Supply (PCB Repair)

- Bought and repaired a broken Day One Edition XBox One from Ebay. Ended-up repairing the power supply as it had failed fairly catastrophically.
Detailed the repair in the hope it may help others.
Component / values used in repair:
Switchmode chip: TNY277PN (or better)
R801: 1206 SMD resistor 2.2 Ohms / 2R2
C806: SMD Cap 37 pf
R806: SMD Resistor 0608 '30C' OR 20KOhms
Onboard fuse: T4A - 4 Amp time delay fuse
Elecrolytic capacitor on burned trace: 10 uf/50v
Cracked ceramic cap on 5v standby line: 10 uf / 50v
MOV: 14N471K
X/Y CAP: 0.47uf
Mosfets on 5vsb rail: 2N7002,N, 60V
Adapter Used to convert XBox 360 supply for testing can be found on Amazon for about £6. Use at own risk but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I get nothing from it.

Not only did you fix the problem in yours, you quickly addressed most common faults that others may have ("puffy" 5V cap on min) and offered solutions to solve said problems with little to no problems. Didn't think I had any 1500μF 16V caps laying around, but old PC parts/psu's are perfect! Found several, but I now know I need a new and better soldering bolt. All this machine soldered stuff needs waay more heat than my gas bolt can make. Thanks again though, this means I won't have to buy a used one, or wait for new parts :P
Nice fix. The PCB was really messed up. That PSU design is a lot more complex than I would have thought. Great work. 👍

Thanks a lot for the video. I got a replacement power supply by chance from a flea market today for a console I needed to test out, but it turned out blown. I was quite disappointed, but thankfully I have some repair skills, and it appears I have the exact same issue. The switchmode chip is cracked and left a nasty burn mark underneath the PCB, taking R202 and the trace on its right along with it. I havent checked the fuse, but given the PSU doesnt react at all when plugged in, I think it's very fair to assume it's gone as well. I had gone the cheap route and it bit me in the ass as it does, but now it's about whether it'd be financially smarter to buy components and repair the PSU or buy a known working one outright

I got an Xbox one PSU to check tomorrow, I’m gonna give the console to a friends son. It didn’t suddenly go off, just didn’t power up after last shut down, so I’m hoping it’s just a few caps.

Hi, sorry to bother in an old video, but i saw your notes at 5:33 and you wroted the part "IRFB3306G" which is the faulty (shorted) mosfet i have. Its a common fault? Do i change both mosfets or just the faulty one? I only managed to adquire IRFB3306 which, according to the equivalence table, should work the same. Thanks!
Hi, Thanks for watching. Mosfets do fail pretty commonly in switchmode power supplies. Changing both would probably be more belt and braces as I believe tgey are working in a pair. You could probably get away with just changing the shorter one. I would double check the markings on the shorter mosfet when you remove it as it has been a while and those notes may have related to something else. Probably not. But worth double checking. Hello mate , I just got my my power supply adapter blown a few days ago .
Silly me forgot to connect the stabiliser . I live in India btw . I obviously can’t do this myself . Can a normal electrician do this repair 😅?

tbh, I would take it to a repair shop if it was over-volted.
@@Plan-C the problem is that here in India , There are scammers . some of the shops , ( Oh God , I'm embarrassed to say this ) are , let's say that they take original chips and other components and exchange them for fake ones . The original fetches a good summa money in the market . They even exchange fuses for lower quality ones . That's how bad it is .
@@arjavv8929 HI, Sorry to hear that. I am very far from an expert. I just got lucky but if it was over volted then I would first check the bridge rectifier, input fuse and primary switching transistor. Good luck. Tbh, you can get reasonable replacements off eBay these days. They are not as good as the originals but ok enough.
Be careful and make sure that there is no voltage on the main 400v capacitor. That is very dangerous.

I replaced the Xbox power supply, comes on now but goes off after 3 seconds, any suggestions
Not sure. Maybe overheating/full of dust or, worst case, bad connections under the CPU?
hello , i have a power supply that has no problem with the capacitors , they are fine , i've changed them anyway but the power supply doesn't work , when i connect it to the xbox the light goes off , what could be the problem ? it could be the mosfets ? thank you
Thanks for watching. Not sure to be honest. It sounds like you have standby power but not the other rails? Tbh, I was pretty lucky with that one as it was easy to see what had failed lol. They are pretty complicated units. Good luck.

I'm trying to fix up one I got. I replaced the caps and all I'm getting now is orange light then turns off. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I believe it's a resister but idk what kind to buy and how to check.
Hey. No expert but what threw me was that resistor that came off with the cap R806 (shown at 16:06 in the vid) I lost it and had to go scanning pics of the board on Google to find the value lol. If you have lost a resistor or are unsure of the markings, it is amazing what you can find online and blow up to read the values. Best of luck. Let me know if you want a picture of the board.
