I love my Grandmother! We lived in Annapolis, and she loved taking the long way to Ocean City, Md, driving through Rehoboth, and driving along the ocean, past the polka-dotted Pancake House to our hotel, the Dunes, the Seabonay, the Quality Inn for the week. Then came Shanty Town; Rt. 50's newest extravanganza. She got us up early to leave home (check-in, in the hotel was, as it's supposed to be, 1pm), so we had an hour to kill and off we went to the Drawbridge's gift shops, LOL. We started taking Rt. 50 straight through; little did I know about Dan Kester at the time or his Rock n' roller Ms. Johnson. Trying to be cool, I always checked out the seashell necklaces for men and leather band wristbands. No man had ever thought about wearing earrings, but, coolness eventually prevailed, don't you know.
During this time, we had Marvin Mandel, as Governor. I thought he was nice. Then as all the Nixon stuff was happening, Maryland got their own Gerald Ford, Harry Hughes. I liked his name, too. It seemed all the more appropriate that Spiro Agnew lived not far from Annapolis; Jimmy Carter's gas lines weren't bad if we only had air-conditioning in the car, and who knew 7-11 Slurpees would still be $1.00 sometimes in 2020-24 and McDonald's would give free fries on your birthday or if a Maryland team wins, maybe a dollar?
with bridges in mind ,whats up with rt90,bridge,,good shape,,aged,,replace ,new bridge?maintainance?,,just sayin, thx, good info for public to know...... no fire dragons to melt it.....walks to clear takes alot of manual power, maintenance staff minimal?....................
The state's plan is to widen Route 90 to four lanes before anything other than regular maintenance is done to the Route 50 Drawbridge. With the state's current budget deficit the 83 year old draw must endeavor to become a centenarian.
@@DanielKestersCoast yes, there was alot of money,,until the new gov,,spent it all,, not nothin nice to say about the piece, well you know, get ready to PAY...tax not cut,so stupid
Thanks Daniel for this and all the updates. My Wife and I have a place down there and can’t wait to return. Keep all your videos and updates coming.

Shanty Town: It’s a shame no more.
@@kevinkiss3340 No more
@@richardhales92 I had Dinner at Shantytown in 1997.
They tore it down in 2003. I guess they can make more money with the residential buildings.
@@kevinkiss3340 Shoot! We were lucky.
At least they are doing the work now instead of mid summer.
