Love how the rookie placed Nolan as a cop Ted lasso. A relentless, unbridled drive forward of optimism that infects everyone around him to the point where even those that met him with visceral discontent become enamoured and invested in his progress. Truly a lovable character that Nathan Fillion embodies. Still disappointed that he wasn’t cast as Hal Jordan for the DCU, because John Nolan is the perfect exemplification of that character.
Agreed but he has voice the character many times and he’s guy Gardner so that’ll be fun. Should have done booster gold and blue beetle with him and tudyck
What Commander Percy West said to Nyla in the beginning of the episode was 100% true. All police officers no matter their rank/title see members of internal affairs as an enemy or to put in a more colorful way they see internal affairs as the Grim Reaper. Its also true that police officers hate defense lawyers until they need them.
It s all true he said that cause. Harper has a habit of doing what she wants and going against the rules. It was only a matter of time before it caught up with her.
I've seen good IA people and bad. I have seen them screw over officers for nothing while protecting people who should be (and eventually were) fired. I have also seen them pass on BIs on people who shouldn't be on the job. I generally liked having a competent and fair IA unit as a cop. They fulfill a needed purpose, and neutral fact finders can really cover your ass down the line if you did something right but controversial. In the end, I spent a lot of my career as a supervisor. I wanted a good IA unit. I never felt the need to be fearful of them.
The problem here is the context of the situation which he is dismissing. One of the reasons why people see departments like IA or QA as the enemy is because it is their job to find the problems which nowadays are what get focused on rather than evaluating the individual in question as a whole. In this situation you'd have the word of a 40+ rookie with some marks on his record accusing a well respected and highly decorated detective of framing him for being an informant for criminal elements as well as possessing copious amounts of drugs in his house in a hidden compartment Nolan knew nothing about. 2+2 means that there will be unconscious bias in the detectives favor no matter how you justify Percy's outrage. Plus people have a natural belligerence for any figure with a significant civil authority, you can't expect people to have an even greater degree of caution around the watchers who watch the watchers without watchers watching them. It's just human nature to be wary of others since power to humans is just as dangerously addictive to abuse as cocaine.
He's got promotion now since he pass the sargent exam. Position opened up for him in north hollywood but, he's not interested moving up just yet. Because he hasn't finish his training yet with chen.
I hope that Nolan can find kindness because he has sacrificed his career to do what is right and to stop corruption in the LAPD. Also it made me discourage on how he was framed and many police didn’t investigate or stop the wrong criminal
Late as hell on this show but i just finished this episode and its insane to me that a cop who got framed for being involved in the murder of two other officers and then basically clearing his own name on his own is being punished this harshly lmao
The writers really backed themselves into a corner with this. He almost certainly can't advance but you know the team will want to move Nolan up the chain and show him taking more responsibility. However, because the ltter of reprimand is meant to be a serious consequence of Nolan's actions, any attempt to circumnavigate it will feel forced and fake.
the key word here is ALMOST, my guess is something will come about which will redeem Nolan's name, and if not oh well, some people are fine with being career Patrol
It depends I suppose, the easiest way I can see would to be to give him a big enough "Hero" moment which dwarves his LOR. Saying that, I'd like to see them be more creative.

His TO should have been fired for her actions. She got off without any real consequences. Nolan took all the blame when he brought it up to his TO and she said do nothing.

Nolan obviously improvised the end but it's not like he had much choice with a bunch of guns pointing at him. I'd be really interested in them explaining WHAT he got reprimanded for.
The lead-up to the operation, where Nolan and Harper did their own investigation, was NOT sanctioned. They were not sanctioned to investigation crooked cops. They should have reported it ASAP. And that they didn't is what got Nolan framed as a dirty cop. If Armstrong hadn't been killed, the two of them would have all but handed the jury reasonable doubt.
My question is this, can a letter of reprimand be removed by the police chief if he feels that Nolan has earned the department’s trust in him or is it permanently in his file?
No it can't. At least not in the real world. The most that can be done is accomplish something extraordinary to over shadow it. Which I have a feeling is what is going to happen.
I don't recall what this was about, but I never worried about petty discipline stuff like that. Some agencies may have a policy to expunge them after a period of time. You drive on. Letter of reprimand on their record definitely isn’t a good look to superiors especially when it was given when they were a rookie but I assume due to Nolan getting a golden ticket, he can still advance in his career even if he chose to be a training officer. The way Nyla made it sound, the golden ticket isn’t just a one time pass in advancement but also sign of upstanding officer since she said she’d be alright if their superiors found out that they were independently investigating the DIA and the counterfeit money.

I’d have quit there and then. You can’t do the right thing anymore it’s always the wrong thing. Nothing is ever right because everybody thinks differently. The system is broken
Well. Nolan is a far stronger man then most I know. To receive a punishment like that and be willing to continue on. Most I know would quit. I'd even consider it. It would take me a while to come to terms with the blow to my career. Never to advance anywhere other then patrol.
I would stay the month, take and pass the test, then remove my badge and gun belt and resign right when they told me I passed. Then I would move on to another Police Department. Letters of Reprimand don't follow you to another job. LA is a shit hole and the police department isn't any different. Quit and move on.
There is a reason I didn’t follow-through after passing the recruit trooper exams with the Oregon State Police. Dealing with that level of corruption would drive me insane. I’d love to see Nolan stick it out a couple years, then move to a small town, get voted in as Sheriff, and any time the LAPD wanted his cooperation in his county, he could call the CHP and tell Grey to pound sand.
For what he was doing his job any cop would've done the same. If they found out there's a mold inside the department and we can't trust anybody else. Especially if there are high ranking and leaders are involved and have no idea how high this goes.
This dude has been shot at maybe 10 times, has killed others, been stabbed and hit by a bat. His captain was executed next to him. He has been framed by a dirty cop. What the ever living hell goes on in LA???
In sad truth, a letter of reprimand will follow the officer for the rest if their career. Yes, if they show that they have done better since, it can be overlooked, but ultimately, its there to stay. For a rookie officer in training, it would as Sgt Grey said, be the end of his or her career right there. Depending on the severity of the situation, depends on how much that letter is going to affect them. Nolan should have been booted for what he did, even though he was framed, he knowingly went against the department's policies and is now lucky to continue to be an officer.
He was doing is job and they underestimate Armstrong and the criminal who was involved of all of this. He made not just the department but, the rest of California law enforcement look bad. And nolan couldn't trust anybody inside the department who was dirty expect grey, chan, bradford, west, harper and lopez.
The black guy I missed him when he was on judging Amy a lot of people didn't like that show because he was always with a white woman but that was just a professional relationship in the courtroom but in the season finale the final season of judging Amy him and the actress that played Amy they finally got together after many huddles and trial and tribulation the brother finally got the white woman she was happy and he was happy
OK so as much as I know that Letters of reprimand arent good and shouldn't be discounted, that being said, if said officer displays exemplary behavior after the fact the letter of reprimand should really be reduced to nothing more than a stain that shouldn't keep a good officer from advancing. Like, why the hell would you keep a good officer down all because he went a little Awol early in his career?
Sergeant Grey was right about treating the notion of bad behavior and conduct is okay so long as it produces justice like a cancer. Any good cop worth their profession should know how thin that line is between good and bad in their profession. Far too many cops have easily lost their way engaging in that kind of behavior and conduct and ended up straying so far from the right path they could not come back. That is exactly what happened to Michael Chiklis's character Vic on The Shield.
I f-ing loved this show. 11 min into the first episode of season 3 and they start blaming his treatment on his color and not the relationships he"s made and I'm done. I'm beyond Hollywood thinking they can preach to me about anything when they themselves are just as f-ed up. The only way we'll get past all of this is with love and acceptance not hate and finger-pointing.
@@Wyr_111 its stupid because from his actions we know he is not racist. There is a more complex story they could have gone with. They could have shown how he deals with other officers that are racist. And also how he would deal with being accused of being racist just because he's a white person. It's a complicated situation ( three dimensional) that they are making one-dimensional and too simplistic.
@@BS-ne5cr I one hundred percent agree with you. I was okay with westly saying it because he's kinda always been like that. But its started to happen with the other characters in the second episode and im not happy about it.
Yeah, makes me worry for the future of the show. Bad place to put that stuff anyway. They want to talk about racial injustice because of cops, in a show where the original captain was a woman of ethnic backround, the long standing sergeant is black, two out of three of the main rookies are colored, two out of three of the TOs are colored, the head of IA is black, the head detective was black for 2 seasons, the task force they worked with using Bradford's wife as a ci was led by a black man, if you want to have a talk about racial issues in America I'm all for it, but in a show where 80% of the fucking cast and lead characters and people in charge are people of color... that is NOT the time or place, have fun tanking your show into the dust. Poor Nathan, caught up in this shit and if it keeps going it will burn his entire name to the ground with it.
@@Wyr_111I honestly think the Wesley line was more of a surprise than the other stuff throughout season 3. Jackson getting paired with Stanton led to more direct racism in the episodes, and Nolan and Harper getting assigned to the community center both led to more situations that involved the topic of racism. Even Harper’s “white savior” line in the beginning of the season was done sort of well, not calling him one, but saying that despite his good intentions some of his actions gave the wrong impression. But, the show made it a point to show he was still doing good. He connected with people, helped a man who needed work, and then saved his life, it was a way to include the topic without criticizing the character. Meanwhile, when Wesley is talking to Nolan in the station after he was arrested, he goes off about how if Nolan wasn’t a white male cop then he wouldn’t be receiving this level of treatment. I mean yeah, you’re technically right, but he is caught up in a police corruption cover up and is being framed by another cop, who is his close friend, all of which is happening right after two people he went to the academy with were killed. So it just doesn’t feel like the place or the time to even try to bring up a racial element, but he does so anyways, because season 3 focuses on racism, so they need to mention it in the first episode, no matter how weird it feels.
I don't see the logic in how nobody gives Nolan a praise for catching dangerous cop killer and on top of that finding the mole. That in my mind tops his illegal action. But i love how Grey acts annoyed everytime around Nolan but deep down he respects him
There's a reason why they call it 'Noble Cause corruption'. Their off the books investigation would have sabotaged any case against Armstrong, as any half skilled defense attorney could have used what happened to seed reasonable doubt.
I think they can keep the name as long as he keeps learning new things it could be fighting skills to a skilled bomber diffusion cas he he has to go undercover or ends up going somewhere else inother country for exchange

To uphold the law they went around the law and the standard operating procedures and regulations of the LAPD. As a Rookie, you are held to an even higher standard. You’re attempting to prove to your colleagues and superiors that you are capable of being trusted to follow the law, procedures and orders given to you by the chain of command which you are expected to follow. You have the power to use deadly force in the course of your duties and make arrests which can result in someone going to prison for the rest of their lives or even face execution. That is not a power given out lightly, nor should it. I think because of “Plot Armor” and dependent on the continued ratings success of the show, you will see Nolan earn the trust back for eventual advancement.

If this is a real police system, it is suck. An exemplary officer who took the trouble and extra efforts to investigate against his own friend is being reprimanded? I’d love to see Nolan stick it out a couple years, then move to a small town, get voted in as Sheriff, and any time the LAPD wanted his cooperation in his county, he could call the CHP and tell Grey to pound sand.
But his former employer could tell his new one about the Letter of Reprimand.
Nyla is such a sweet heart deep down
Like Bradford!❤
Yikes Nolan Has A Lot To Make Up For!!
For what he was doing his job any cop would've done the same. If they found out there's a mold inside the department and we can't trust anybody else. Especially if there are high ranking and leaders are involved and have no idea how high this goes.
He will be a detective by season 6 I have no doubt
This prediction was almost on point he had a golden ticket and didn’t use it to be detective he had a different path he wanted to take but could of
have to wonder if this was all a setup
Nolan basically had to choose between being killed or being demoted
Nolan later gets promoted to P2 and later a T.O. himself.
Moral: Just do something good and get promoted because you are the main character.
That was pretty sad when he was told that he couldn't advance in the department because of the reprimand
Damn this scene was sad because you could feel the hurt in both gray and Nyla, John has every right to feel that emotion,
This dude has been shot at maybe 10 times, has killed others, been stabbed and hit by a bat. His captain was executed next to him. He has been framed by a dirty cop.
What the ever living hell goes on in LA???
In the real LAPD they call it "Thursday."
I think it is bull to reprimand Nolan but just my opinion
Thank u. Your not the only one who feels that way.
Hopefully he's able to move on up. Graduate.
Amen to that he did the right thing
OK so as much as I know that Letters of reprimand arent good and shouldn't be discounted, that being said, if said officer displays exemplary behavior after the fact the letter of reprimand should really be reduced to nothing more than a stain that shouldn't keep a good officer from advancing.
Like, why the hell would you keep a good officer down all because he went a little Awol early in his career?
I'll be honest, Nolan is the reason I watch this show. He's an inspiring character.
Y'all are too caught up on Nolan not becoming a detective. There are a billion other detective cop shows. I hope they keep doing something different
yes, there are a billion, but none with Fillion
@@jamesnicholson3658 Castle?
@@sothyt2162 Castle wasn’t a detective he was writer (Basically a pseudo detective though)
Nolan is very lucky
I f-ing loved this show. 11 min into the first episode of season 3 and they start blaming his treatment on his color and not the relationships he"s made and I'm done. I'm beyond Hollywood thinking they can preach to me about anything when they themselves are just as f-ed up. The only way we'll get past all of this is with love and acceptance not hate and finger-pointing.
I agree I hated that as well and I have a feeling that its just gonna get worse through out the season.
My sarge is just like him. But I'd rather deal with him then have a sarge who don't care
In a real police unit, would there be absolutely no opportunity for Nolan to redeem himself and advance?
So when is the rookie season 3 coming to the UK??
Sshhh. I watch it on look movie with a vpn....
Why is he still in trouble if he didn’t do anything?
Because he did not bring it to internal affairs
This guy can't catch a break. Always getting in trouble
I wanna see the show end with him having greys job after grey retires or at least be a seargent like tim and tim having greys job
I bet the final season will have Nolan as a training officer
*SPOILERS:*
He becomes one in S5
@@justjoannak I figured based on the finale of S4. Hope it's not the last season
Nolan has improved a lot after that incident
Criminals need to be held accountable
Poor Nolan, he was so hopeful now he is not
I love The Rookie , beautiful show...and Nathan Is my Idol!!!!!♥️
When is the new season reliced
If that all I think they come out clean.
What is the episode number
Wait so what happened? Why was he being given an LOR?
That’s Bs if he stood around waiting to be found innocent he’d be locked up in prison
Song name please
Does anyone know if there making a new season
Yes this is the start of the new season

Oh my, the life of a patrol officer with 80k a year ? How terrible.
Earn back what I lost. Sign of honor
This premier sucked. Another TV series cliffhanger from the previous season, solved in 40 minutes. They could have made it go on for another episode or two.....
I thought that too, but I think the whole season is going to be a kind of ''redemption'' arc for Nolan.
So yeah he may have his job back in the first episode but I think the whole season could be hell for him.
This episode was to wrap up season 2. The preview shows that season 3 will mostly be about BLM and working in that type of environment
@@Eleven1of1 I'm aware what it's purpose is. But it just feeds into the cliche that everything gets solved in 40 minutes or less. Just like the cliche that the bad guy always loses in most tv shows and movies.

When will Australia end up getting season 3 my mind is so outta whack I cant remember how soon we got the last seasons. whoopsies.

What episode
So hold up he was innocent so what’s going on here
He broke protocol and started up his own investigation with his T.O which is causing him to be held back and and loosing his chances to move up in the job
He will always ve a rookie as that's what the show u s about... being a pp Athol officer uvgave less work and lk ess danger then being in swat or dectitive
@@name2.040 He was doing his job plus they couldn't trust anybody in the department who was dirty and the mole. There's too much corruption with every law enforcement who's on criminals payroll these days even all the way to top of the highest leader worst of all.

Or is Nolan playing Nathan drake 🤔
Why is he being reprimanded?
Because he went sort of rogue because he was being framed I think, he went on the run and then disobeyed orders to catch the bad guys.... Basically he did nothing wrong but it's a show so they need drama
@@Lubble- oh ty
Actually The rookie is base in the Life of a rela person
If this is a real police system, it is suck. An exemplary officer who took the trouble and extra efforts to investigate against his own friend is being reprimanded? Nolan and Harper had to be very sure, careful and rightly said, not with circumstantial evidence before referring to IA. Otherwise, would betray a GOOD FRIEND. Might as well kept quiet and close one eye? No wonder, many police turned bad. A really2 bad system. Or, just to keep Nolan as rookie for this series.🤔😆😆😆
