Hi Nostalgia Critic. I thought it would be nice to review Rio and Rio 2. I would love to see your thoughts on a fim of a blue sphinx macaw from Minnesota who travels to Rio for Love.
Fun fact this was actually the true sequel to the brave little toaster book. The 2nd movie was completely original, but this one is actually based on the 2nd book… so it’s more jarring!!! That we go from earth to space.
Here’s another fun fact. The sequel novel was made in response to the movie as the author apparently loved the movie so much he was inspired to write Goes to Mars and the characters’ personalities were more like their movie counterparts then the original novel because he liked the movie that much!
The scene in the end when they tally up the votes and the refrigerator only had one has always stuck with me. He’s this big jerk and everyone thinks he voted for himself but the Toaster was the one who voted for him.
This whole Trilogy was so underrated for me. I have so many nostalgic memories from To The Rescue alone. Literally haven't seen it in a decade and the opening song where all the animals and appliances are singing about how the master saves them will enter my head at random points. I imagine it happening the same way the things in Rileys head keep sending up that jingle to her brain for kicks every once in a while in Inside Out 🤣🤣
In the SEA region, the first film of TBLT trilogy is the most underrated, and I think it rarely or never aired on Disney Channel and local TV for some reason. Only the sequels aired more times on Disney Channel and on TV over 20 years ago. And before that, I had VCDs of both To the Rescue and Goes to Mars. There was however, no VCD on the first film. My mom was the one who remember fondly of the first film, as she mentioned about the junkyard scene. When I did manage to watch the first film on RUclips around 2009 or 2010, I think I knew why. The first film was somewhat dark and very disturbing from what I heard. Maybe it was the reason why it never aired on TV or there is no physical copies for VCD or VHS of the first film in my country. Who knows.🤷
- Fun Fact: “Brave Little Toaster” and “Brave Little Toaster goes to Mars” were both based on novellas written by Thomas M. Disch. When Disneycember was first announced, and you reviewed the first Brave Little Toaster movie, this was the one movie I wanted you to talk about so bad. I remember you saying you would review this movie someday as a Nostalgia Critic review in an old video of top 10 movies you won’t review, and now you finally talked about it. Thank you!! I believe this was the first movie I ever saw in my life, and I especially remember that baby song. Glad you skipped the other movie (to the rescue) because it’s not that interesting, at least to me it isn’t.
Listen to the debate song in this film and then go look at the song SAVAGES from Disney's POCAHONTAS: I'd SWEAR it's the same song (not just because Jim Cummings sings in both)

I remember seeing this movie years ago when Playhouse Disney had their "Movie Morning Mondays" with a different, often obscure Disney movie each week. I remember not having seen the other movies, and even missing the very beginning of this one, but I started watching just before the Balloon song and thought it was really catchy so I kept watching. Didn't really understand the whole election thing at that age, but I overall really enjoyed the movie.

@Zachary Erickson yeah I remember when they were released. I was so confused after finally seeing rescue and was like, "where's the baby?" And realized they were released backwards for some wired reason! Even introduced a character that was in "Goes to Mars"!
Lloyd: "You know a franchise is in danger when they are sent into space." Chaplin: "Lloyd, Doug has sent us to the Channel Awesome satellite for repairs and shenanigans." Lloyd: "Take me now, Uber Jason."
I only heard about this movie through an ad on a VHS tape for another Disney movie (I forget which one). That old commercial announcer was my childhood.
I saw a promo for this on the original vhs release of Melody Time (one of my favorite Disney animated films), but it likely was on other releases at the time.
The Brave Little Toaster is actually a novella series written by Thomas M. Disch for the Fantasy and Science Fiction series. The first film and this film were based on the actual stories. The second film wasn’t. It was an original idea made by Hyperion Pictures and Kushner-Locke Company. I still find this film enjoyable despite how scientifically inaccurate it is. Understand that, there were major changes between the first story and the first movie. Among other things, the "master" was an adult, and owner of the cabin, not the child of the owners. And, at the end, the "modern" appliances aren't actually mean to the older appliances, and help find a resolution to the situation.
I used to watch this film on VHS at my grandma's house. The opening credits alone gives me chills - that piano score coupled with the camera panning through the cold and desolate shots of the solar system and the credits drifting through space reminds me of the wistful tone of "Super Mario Galaxy's" soundtrack.
I've watched this movie ONLY for him.💙 And ended up crying, because of his last quote, and because it's just all so cute and so emotional. And now the first thing I think of when I hear about Viking One, it's him. ^^
Here’s the weird thing even though this film was released second it actually takes place third out of the Brave Little Toaster trilogy as the film released third (Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue) was actually the second film. Another weird thing is this film isn’t just some weird idea Disney had as this film is actually a sequel book to the first book!
I swear, the release order confused me to no end as a kid! The VHS for this had a preview of To the Rescue at the end, when I finally got to see that one, I was pretty confused…
For years people were demanding nostalgia critic to review Brave little toaster goes to Mars! This movie is so bizarre, that this was actually based on the actual written book sequel!
Never saw this. But what I did see, and watched on repeat many times was Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue. I freaking LOVED that one. And while it definitely isn't as dark as the first...the scene with Radio basically sacrificing himself hit hard.
To me the animation style definitely feels different as it has less of Don Bluth and more of a Warner Bros. cartoon feel to it. As if you're watching a skit on Animaniacs or Tiny Toons Adventure.
I actually had this on VHS. It was decent. So strangely this one and The brave Little toaster to the rescue we're the only ones to be released on Netflix for a while to the point where I have to go out of my way to find a Brave Little toaster DVD of the first movie
This was actually my first Brave Little Toaster movie as a kid. To the point where whenever my parents say "you remember that Brave Little Toaster movie you loved as a kid?" they mean this one and not the first one. For some reason they only got the sequels and we'd rent the first one.
I actually loved the balloon song. It is a bit wierd, but the feeling of childhood wonder that the concept of balloons in space sets up is followed through in by the lyrics. It's almost an antithesis to the "Useless" song in the first movie. The balloons are all past their purpose, reminiscent of all the amazing times they had in the past knowing its all over BUT have accepted that optimistically. Their spirits are free floating and appreciating what they had while the cars all awaited to just be crushed physically as much as they were emotiolly, wishing to still be living in the glory days. Some of these songs in the sequels still clearly explore basic but deep emotional themes like in the first. A lot of them do seem to focus on aging beyond one's role in life and the dark changes that occur or can be returned to. In the second, there is a whole song dedicated to the glory of the information superhighway and what computers bring to humanity through it. Not long later we get a song from an outmoded supercomputer, who was one of the first great steps forward in modern technology. He is now abandoned and forgotten in the basement of an institute, slowly degrading to a final breakdown. During the song explaining how he's becoming a pile of rubbish, he mentions the glory days and the tune/lyrics make a quick shift to recall the "information superhighway" song before returning to the more pessimistic tone. You can tell what emotions these intatimate objects are feeling AND be able to empathize with why. I also love the "A Day to Remember" song in the second movie. This one gets DARK and while the overall theme is positive to that song and has a catchy dance melody; it is also the introduction to the dark theme. We see all the animals explain the misery they were in when "The Master" found and rescued them to the clinic. All of them are pretty tragic with the ape being the only one who's past isn't fully revaed but made clear is the worst of all. Since this is early in the movie, the song itself balances this though as just foreshadowing while setting up our emotional investment. The animals all show gratitude for the day their lives were turned around by the kind acts of one person. It's still not "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen obviosly, but for a "strait to video" children's animation music video; it is emotionally well thought out. When we learn all the animals are in danger we don't just feel for them because they are innocent animals in danger but also because we KNOW the tragedies each has been through and how grateful they are to be better off. Granted they aren't TOO graphic of backstories as they are meant for kids to accept and are BREIFLY touched upon in this song for most of them, but for a movie that could have had a song about general "love is good" then expected us to just care because animals are in danger, this is good. They even have a strait-up car chase end, with the villain gunning for the state line! I kid you not! The villain is pretty obvious..and while he isn't just bad for being bad, his motivations are not the most orgional..the two plot lines are enough though to make you invested and stay connected enough without one being just filler and I think overall it makes up for its weak points. We also get a moment of personal development from Radio, who I felt had less focus put on it than the rest of the characters in the first movie. The first one WAS a passion project if you learn about the production of it; and while the sequels clearly still exist for profit; this franchise is NOT "The Land Before Time" or "An American Tail." It is clear they COULD have gone baby fluff with no regard to the last movies or its target audiences intelligence, but SOME thought and effort WAS still put in. Please watch the second one N.C. I didn't allows myself to see either of this until my mid 20s on a streaming service but was surprised that they were at least worth a first watch each.
I had this movie as a little kid and the song that sticks with me ia the "Home Again" song. To this day, I play that song in my head when ever I come home from a long trip.
@@thehackingburger3002 yeah, there are a handful of songs from movies I watched as a kid that have stuck with me over the years. I'm glad it's of them.
If you enjoyed this one, give the second one “brave little toaster to the rescue” a shot. It is similarly “not as good as the first… but a lot better than a direct to video of brave little toaster should be.”

I remember this movie so vividly. I think I have the VHS somewhere in my basement. I also remember that one song the mother sings and it does shed a tear or two I’m not gonna lie.
I remember watching this movie so many times when I was little. We never actually got the vhs of the original movie (I think I saw it on the Disney channel now and then?) so this was literally "We have the Brave Little Toaster at home" for me. I actually forgot the entire third act was about child-friendly politics, but I definitely remembered the balloons in space thing.
This was my little brother's favorite movie for a long time when I was a kid! I've seen it like 3 times, but heard it from the other room probably hundreds, haha. That balloon song is a banger
I won this movie through a coloring contest at my local video store when it came out in May 1998! I think I won mostly cause the other entries were done by kids under 7 so their coloring wasn't the best. You just had to color in a paper print of the movies poster. If I remember correctly, I did like the movie, though I can't remember any of the plot! I only recall the Little Toaster and his friends dancing to the song "Bread and Butter" by the Newbeats as it played on the radio in their owners kitchen.
I actually hope Rapunzel’s Tangled adventure is one of the last few for the last week of Disneycember 2021. Though I do wish the Tangled series had a music soundtrack for the background music of each season like the disco music that plays in the second season 17th episode The brothers hook during final part of the dance off.
Wait a damn second... You SKIPPED Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue!? Dude! That was, in my opinion, the best one! It was surprisingly dark and emotional!
Stuff like this is why I always keep coming back to Disneycember. Hearing Doug give a weird little movie the benefit of the doubt and finding creativity and charm in the strangest places is so wholesome. I like hearing him rip things to shreds if they deserve it, but this is honestly more enjoyable. I love how he never brushes off a movie just because it's animated or it's "for kids" - he approaches everything with an open mind and attempts to find *something* positive in any film - even if he doesn't always succeed. (Also I've never seen this movie and only watched the first movie once as a kid - and didn't like it - so this isn't just nostalgia/bias talking).
And this actually makes sense as the next one to review, since To the Rescue, in spite of technically being a prequel to Goes To Mars, came out the next year, seemingly because of production issues. Must've been confusing as hell for kids in the late 90s, though I think I didn't watch To the REscue until I was in my 30s, but did watch Goes To Mars at least once in my teens
After hearing you mentioning this as something he would review from his Top 11 Nostalgia Critics You’ll Never Do a decade ago, I feel like a piece of the puzzle has finally been solved thanks to this review. 😊 Now, maybe Doug should look over the other movie, The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue which takes place between the first movie and this one, for the next Disneycember. 😊
For 6 years, since he reviewed the first movie, I have been waiting for this review. This and Buzz Lightyear The Adventure Begins were my childhood movies. Every day after school in first grade.
Honestly I'd recommend checking out To the Rescue as well. This movie in a couple scenes expects you to have seen it, or at least implies that some of the new characters were actually properly met in that one. My favorite character from the sequels, Wittgenstein, gets the majority of his screentime in that one too. While he only makes a brief cameo appearance in this one to help them set up their makeshift spacecraft, in the previous one he's one of the most important characters and he's introduced as a depressed broken-down has-been who has given up on life and is just waiting to die. But he was my hyperfixation as a child and is important enough to me that I use him as my Twitter pfp now. I think TTR is worth watching just for him alone.
I loved the original Brave Little Toaster as a kid. Probably one of the reasons I grew to love darker animated movies. This one I never got to see until I was much older. Sooo weird.
I actually had this one growing up, but not the original brave little toaster. I kinda forgot everything about it but there's so much, well, nostalgia in seeing it talked about here lol
The Brave Little Toaster was one of my favorite movies to watch as a kid. I don't think I saw this one. I found a cheap deal online so one day, I may have to buy it just to see it- it actually looks pretty awesome! :0
This film does have some big-name celebrities in it. It's got Farrah Fawcett as a faucet (get it), Wayne Knight as a microwave, Carol Channing as a fan, and DeForest Kelley as Viking 1 in his final performance before his death in 1999.
I've seen the first Brave Little Toaster, but I didn't even know there were sequels. Speaking of the question where balloons that kids lose go, One Piece also played with the idea. There's a scene in the anime, where a side character is chilling on a Sky Island, an island made of clouds so thick you can build towns on them (it's anime logic, don't question it). This particular Sky Island is called "Balloon Terminal", because every balloon kids lose somehow find their way there. This scene also leads to the introduction to one of the main villains of the story.
I actually had this on VHS as a kid, and I both saw it before the first one(I actually going into this thought it was the sequel in general and didn't know it was a third) and have really worn that tape our I watched it so much. I'm actually pretty nostalgic for it.
This is my exact reaction to the Monster High movies. They're so crazy and creative, that it really doesn't matter if it's clearly written for children. (Although, I'm not sure how child-friendly the climax of Ghouls Rule is)

I thought this was the second movie and "To the Rescue" was the third. I just learned it's the other way around. But, I could have sworn this came out first. Thank you, Mandela Effect. I know "To the Rescue" takes place before this film, but I thought it was like how "Temple of Doom" is set before "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Now, I know otherwise.
This whole movie sounds like one of those Humongous Entertainment PC games I played as a kid. Which is ironic because I'm pretty sure one game I haven't played is Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon.
I've the trailer to this movie on VHS when I was little and I've only seen the Brave little toaster to the rescue. And watching that I might watch this one to out of curiosity.
I do still hope he does Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue. It’s surprisingly dark at times, has some decent commentary on technology that feels in line with the first movie
We got Brian Doyle Murphy (Captain kanuckles) playing the original supercomputer ever created left to rot after becoming obsolete while a virus slowly kills him, a greedy student sabatoging his roommates final thesis while trying to sell his animals to a downright torture facility and the radio fucking dies. Like holy shit this one had stakes that the first movie didn't get until the damn climax.
@@Sonichero151 “Chomp and Munch” was morbid as heck to young me. Actually if you interpret the “Virus” as something like dementia(He is an old computer, after all.) it’s even worse
@@robertlauncher Hm. I think coming back to my favorite childhood movies as an adult has helped me realize that I was a pretty messed up little kid. I mean, the Brave Little Toaster movies? Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame?? I think this explains a lot! XD
This is actually the third movie on the series. There was another called "To the Rescue" where the owner is about to graduate from veterinary school. The toaster and appliances can talk to animals and help prevent a dog, cat and her kittens, a monkey, a rat (the rat in this movie) and a snake from being sold to a laboratory.
I think they released the two sequels out of order. I could tell that the other movie chronologically came first and that it was where the Wittgenstein the supercomputer and the rat character were introduced. There was a commercial for it at the end of the video. I didn’t get to see it until years later when they showed it on Toon Disney.
I remember loving the 3 movies growing up. Still adore the first movie now. But I've been afraid to revisit these sequels because I'm worried they won't live up to how I remembered them. I know this one won't be as good as the original but I'm happy to see Nostalgia Critic still had fun with it.

I love these movies as a kid back then
@@erainmartinez8175 yeah me too,
I probably watched this one on VHS 100 times from the time I was 3 until I was about 10
As a kid I was convinced this was the third film, and canonically it is, so nothings ever gonna convince me otherwise.
@@PikaLink91 it is in terms of canon, it’s just that 2 was released after this for some reason…..
Good luck getting the "Now We're Floating" song the balloons sing out of your head!
The first one wasn’t on Disney Plus either so I had to do the same. What’s up with that seriously?
@@andreasmeelie1889 as I said before in another post it's probably because of legal reasons
This was actually my first Brave Little Toaster movie as a kid. To the point where whenever my parents say "you remember that Brave Little Toaster movie you loved as a kid?" they mean this one and not the first one. For some reason they only got the sequels and we'd rent the first one.
I'll be honest the first Brave Toaster movie as a kid felt so relaxing, and different compared to other classical age "Disney" movies at the time.
Thank you for naming the Balloon song because I've been trying to remember it for years and it's just as catchy as I remember!
I had this movie as a little kid and the song that sticks with me ia the "Home Again" song. To this day, I play that song in my head when ever I come home from a long trip.
Me toooo! Crazy how something can stick with you, huh? :)
@@thehackingburger3002 yeah, there are a handful of songs from movies I watched as a kid that have stuck with me over the years. I'm glad it's of them.
This one is super nostalgic for me lol, it's a movie you haven't seen since childhood but you remember it so much because it's so creative.
This is oddly enough the first Brave Little Toaster movie I've seen in my childhood. I still somewhat remember the song with the balloons.
If you enjoyed this one, give the second one “brave little toaster to the rescue” a shot. It is similarly “not as good as the first… but a lot better than a direct to video of brave little toaster should be.”

I remember seeing this on Toon Disney almost every month. Childhood memories. ❤️
I remember watching this movie with my cousins many years ago, great times.
I remember this movie so vividly. I think I have the VHS somewhere in my basement. I also remember that one song the mother sings and it does shed a tear or two I’m not gonna lie.
"it so good it bad" lol
Man that first movie always made me cry when i was a kid. I couldn't bear to see how much the characters wanted to be with their master, but couldn't.
This video gave me some real vivid childhood flashbacks, I loved this movie as a kid and I completely forgot about it!
"So good its bad" xD nice slip up
I love this movie… I even got a Brave Little Toaster shirt yesterday
This was my little brother's favorite movie for a long time when I was a kid! I've seen it like 3 times, but heard it from the other room probably hundreds, haha. That balloon song is a banger
I won this movie through a coloring contest at my local video store when it came out in May 1998! I think I won mostly cause the other entries were done by kids under 7 so their coloring wasn't the best. You just had to color in a paper print of the movies poster. If I remember correctly, I did like the movie, though I can't remember any of the plot! I only recall the Little Toaster and his friends dancing to the song "Bread and Butter" by the Newbeats as it played on the radio in their owners kitchen.
...this is unearthing some long buried memories. I think I saw this when I was three.
This review unlocked memory's. I have not seen this since the late 90s.
Wait a damn second... You SKIPPED Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue!? Dude! That was, in my opinion, the best one! It was surprisingly dark and emotional!
Technically The Brave Little toaster to the Rescue was the third movie to be released. He didn't skipped it
What frustrates me is why the first brave little toaster movie isn’t on Disney plus yet the sequels are
Sooo sad
I Think it's because of licensing issues.
The original was never even on Netflix when the sequels were years ago
STILL!
Disney distributes ALL of them, yet only the fucking sequels are on Disney+ for some reason.
@@Jothomas214 yeah odd
Shouldn’t be a problem for them, since they literally stole the video release rights when it came out. 😒
The original Brave little toaster is dark as hell. Never noticed it as a kid, as an adult it’s crazy depressing and messed up.
From the hands that gave us flight..
Hands too little to hold on tight..
This song is definitely about death.
Weirdly enough, Doug didn't miss a movie, The mars movie came out first while To the Rescue, which takes place before Mars, came out a year later.
This was one of my favorite movies when I was little, I watched it so many times I almost wore out my old VHS tape of it
I’d like to see this series on nostalgia critic. Especially since the first one is that classic 80s dark
👍👍💯💯💯💯💯
That one made me cry lol
Dude the scene with the AC unit is one of the biggest WTF in Disney history
instant like for a early childhood classic - the mars thing.
I always loved the balloon scene! I thought that was so creative!
The clown in the first movie scarred me for life…
I loved the original Brave Little Toaster as a kid. Probably one of the reasons I grew to love darker animated movies. This one I never got to see until I was much older. Sooo weird.
I actually had this one growing up, but not the original brave little toaster. I kinda forgot everything about it but there's so much, well, nostalgia in seeing it talked about here lol
I still want him to talk about "To The Rescue" even if he might be disappointed.
The less traumatizing Brave little toaster film .
Oh my god he finally watched it!!! Now you have to do the other sequel, NC!!

1:04 "So good it's bad?" What? Like SCHINDLER'S LIST?
I thought this was the second movie and "To the Rescue" was the third. I just learned it's the other way around. But, I could have sworn this came out first. Thank you, Mandela Effect. I know "To the Rescue" takes place before this film, but I thought it was like how "Temple of Doom" is set before "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Now, I know otherwise.
I remember the original one and Brave Little Toaster to the rescue when I was a kid and I'm starting to like the original one much better.
Loved this one as a kid, totally forgot about it until now lol. Only remember the balloons
This whole movie sounds like one of those Humongous Entertainment PC games I played as a kid. Which is ironic because I'm pretty sure one game I haven't played is Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon.
I forgot about this movie until you said the thing about the balloons and everything came rushing back to me
This used to be my favorite movie as a kid.
I've the trailer to this movie on VHS when I was little and I've only seen the Brave little toaster to the rescue. And watching that I might watch this one to out of curiosity.
I remember watching this so often as a kid.
2:20-2:28 I think that is a contraption that even Phineas and Ferb would call bulls**t on.
I still remember a line from a song in it
"Nice is nice but it's human stuff"
Because of this movie, I never threw anything away and it took me way too long to realize balloons eventually fall
I Saw this one before the first, and i always thought it was okay, even as a kid. Nothing special but you feel glad that You see it.

Hm. I think coming back to my favorite childhood movies as an adult has helped me realize that I was a pretty messed up little kid. I mean, the Brave Little Toaster movies? Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame?? I think this explains a lot! XD
I love this movie. It’s crazy nostalgic
💯
Still remember him mentioning this in his “films I will never review” list.
Dude, you're 40? Lookin' good man!
I remember you did a old video on stuff for a nostalgia critic review for a interesting for a Disneycember
Balloons when they finish the song- YAY TO THE MESOSPHERE!!! Finally, we can DIE!!!
I'm pretty sure that line would have been in the first movie! 😁
Always loved all 3 of these!!
I love the balloon song, it was this movie that got me to believe that balloons float forever in space lol
I remember loving the 3 movies growing up. Still adore the first movie now. But I've been afraid to revisit these sequels because I'm worried they won't live up to how I remembered them. I know this one won't be as good as the original but I'm happy to see Nostalgia Critic still had fun with it.
Surprise memory unlocked
The Brave Little Toaster series was a HUGE part of my childhood
I loved the climax of the first
