Lot of knife enthusiasts here . But would definitely like to see more . I would love to try this one of these years . Instead I’ll just keep practicing in my back yard haha . Stay safe as always 🤠
This is what I love about this community. The ref for each run is a fellow competitor and when the world champ came up a guy that is trying to beat him said "you're gonna win this I got you". Great stuff
Hey man, George from LADbible here. We think this video is awesome and would love to post it onto our page. Is this possible? We will fully credit you, thanks!
I’m one of the few who find this very entertaining. I read a lot of bogus comments . I would love to do this !! ( even had my very own custom competition knife made that is just pure awesomeness). Posted a vid about a week ago . Thanks for sharing and Stay Safe as Always 💯
Your video has inspired me to design a cutter for myself. Only thing is as per my country's laws it needs to be way smaller. Where can I get more info on how these knives are made. Or what they are called. It looks like a normal chopper with some minor changes to the blade. What metal do most guys use.
I hear cpm m4 as a steel recommended by many. Of course there are other steels one may use like 3v, 5160, 1095 etc.. Consensus is, there is no best steel for a knife, but there are popular choices depending on the application or use. There are many online forums one can easily google or end up in in one's research. And there is also youtube for the testing, forging etc videos
@@diegoveloso3rd What steels you can get is also limited to where in the world you live. For now I have purchased some D2. Tool steel. Looking for a design I can scale down to fit our laws.
@@ronchinoy oh, well D2 is good :) i do notice i have to oil my D2 knives a bit more often due to humidity and my sweaty palms hehehe For designs, i usually go to instagram for inspiration. Lots of great smiths and even more knives. Im sure youll find many knives there with design qualities you'd fancy. Just search #competitionchopper :D
I just had one custom made . Posted a vid about a week ago . They can get rather expensive but I found a company that will build you an amazing competition knife for a heck of a lot less . I use it to not only practice the skills of Bladesports, but I use for a chopper as well . I will never need to buy another chopper . Let me know if still interested. Stay safe as always 🤠
OAL 15 inch, blade 10 inch, handle 5 inch, maximum width 2 inch, it can be hidden tang or full tang with at least 2 pin, full tang more recommended. Must have 1 hole in the handle for safety string, blade thickness and design is up to you 😁
What is the point of the row of water bottles, or sometimes beer cans. They're not supported at all on either side. So it just looks like they're raking bottles or cans off of a table. I've watched several of these and they all have that part in the event.
Im surprised the guy at 3:00 didn't win he looked the best out there. I'd say if this is based even partially on speed then these guys should start learning to pick up the pace. The winner was the only guy I noticed go particularly quick through these. His ring slice thing didn't go as planned but the rest weren't too shabby. Not the best cuts but the best speed won this competition it seems.
Can somebody explain to me what the rules are? Like are they trying to complete all tasks as quickly as possible? And what's the objective of the one where they cut the rope that's flat on the table?
The main point of this is the testing of the knife and the bladesmith's skills. The rope on the table for the slow slice is there to show how clean of a slice the knife makes. Rope also tests the edge retention
I don't get it, are any of the guys using a blade they've made and display its qualities or is it just a competition to show ? To show what exactly? Looks fun to do though haha
Ha! nice one. It makes a lot more sense ! Slick. Big up to the fellas, some real dyi forging at work ! Much obliged to all. I will be watching it again and delve into the contestants' blogs. Very interesting,. Ta

Andy was pretty good too really, enjoyed his 2x4 cut
Andy definitely was pretty impressive.
I liked his back hand water bottles technique 🤠
Where can i get such amazing 🔪 knives?
Those knifes are commonly made of PM M-4 steel at 62 to 66 HRC hardness.

Wow!!!!!😲😆😆
What´s the deal with the papertube? As many cuts as possible?
What knife and were can I get one
Being able to cleanly slice a free hanging rope like that after going ham on a 2x4 is mindblowing.
It’s super steel knives and amazing heat treats. That’s what makes this so fun

Hi Bearded Burton, can I use some of your shots for a Dutch TV-show? Cheers, Hein
No, you do not have permission to use our footage
The_red_ barron no you do not have permission to use our footage how many times do I have to tell you? I don’t care that it’s 2 years later
Damn I want to know all about what steel and edge geometry they shoot for on these blades. I heard they like M4 and 4V but I can't confirm that.
Yea M4
I like how a majority of them use their gut to keep the horizontal rope on the block
Yesssss
Corn fed at the last had a dam sharp knife as a matter of fact they all do

No, those bottles are being cut. The fact that they are not supported is what makes that difficult.
Anyone here from Marlon webb

It's timed, but successful cuts reduces your overall time, so it's better to go a little slower and make sure you get the cuts
What sort of edge do they put on knives for this? Polished, or toothy?
Polished
Why does this feel like a competition of who’s the most dad of them all?
They gotta hit that faster

Do these guys sharpen commercially available knives or do they have competition knives specially forged ?
Greg Young most are hand made however theres a certain thickness and size they all must have
seth rogen cheers , it's an insane competition to watch but strangely compelling
Exactly, we make all our knives and have certain guidelines we have to pertain to. We also sharpen and take care of our knives on our own.
What sort of edge works best for this? What angle and finish?
Can somebody explain to me what the rules are? Like are they trying to complete all tasks as quickly as possible? And what's the objective of the one where they cut the rope that's flat on the table?
