Two animal buddy videos in a row, pretty cool! Honestly Squitter’s mechanics are so well defined that someone made a full on DKC2 hack where you only Play as Squitter throughout the entirely of DKC2. Also I did not hear any slander about Rick the Hamster, the big distinction between the DKC animal buddies and Kirby’s Animal buddies is that, while DKC’s pals are more inherently power ups and later on level specific gimmicks (Not that is a bad thing) Kirby’s animal friends are full on alternate playable characters having unique distinctions from the Pink Puff and their own takes on Kirby’s copy abilities, Rick himself is the only character in the Kirby series aside from Kirby and Gooey that can actually copy abilities. They may seem similar to each other at first, but these two menageries of rideable buddies take the simple formula that Yoshi established and expanded on it in their own ways. Weird I had more to talk about Kirby than today’s DK video topic.
Rick topping a Dream Friends list makes me ever so curious for how good he was in the older entries. Presumably the inspiration here as Star Allies picked up a while after release. We know he's more than meets the eye. Same for Yoshi. Animal Buddies likewise feel like full-fledged roster members in the platformer that stages account for, may make gimmicks just for, and go beyond power-up.
@@BohemianRaichu Well it’s moreso Kirby inhaling the enemies and transferring his copy abilities to them, Rick straight up eats the enemies and copies with no issue.
I like Rick and Yoshi! But Rick's a bit more limited out of Kirby's animal friends for me, never getting the highs that Kine and especially Coo can reach, despite being the only one who actually eats the enemies on his own. I more appreciate him than enjoy him. NAGO though. Oh Nago's my guy. Adore him.
