  • In this video we look at how to select a pair of drumsticks.
Unfortunately, even though most sticks arrive at the store paired in a cardboard sleeve, we cannot assume that these necessarily are a matched pair.
In this video we go over the two important steps of selecting a perfect pair of drum sticks

Thanks for the tips Damien and Daz! Absolutely love the mega music store, the staff have always been easy to work with and are happy to help. What sticks do you like to use??

Also look at the grain of the wood. You want to see the grain running out both ends and not leaving out the sides.

That can make a difference, yes - especially if you rimshot heavily and a lot of the time. Thanks for th input!

Just checked a couple of my sticks on a gram scale and Sound Percussion 5A one stick is 42 and the other is 53. My Vic Firths are a dead match. Interesting.

This is useless. You break one stick at a time so the pairs are always separated.

Not if you purchase several similarly matched pairs together - which is also a more cost-effective way of doing it.
In addition, the far worse scenario is having to play with two unmatched, unstraight sticks.
Lastly, selecting a pair with the highest pitch is a good way of ensuring a potentially longer lasting pair. All that said, If you're breaking sticks THAT often, it probably isnt the sticks.
