Watching the video, I noticed that with the dust deputy, your only remaining source of dust is coming from that curved slot that the depth adjustment wheel follows. I think if you found some whisker guides, you could block off that slot for the depth wheel while still allowing the wheel to move freely.
It's one of those "size matters" deals... A larger dust removal system with a blower motor (instead of a vacuum cleaner) and a larger cyclone dust remover will likely do a much better job... But that costs a lot more money. For hobbyists, you use what you can afford to put together because it's likely not your main income.
Sorry to be negative but what you demonstrated was the difference between a jobsite table saw with a shop vac (and Dust Deputy) for dust collection and a jobsite table saw with no dust collection. You would have got the same results with just the shop vac. The advantage of the Dust Deputy is that it separates out the dust before it gets to the shop vac filter so the filter stays clean longer and thus the shop vac performs at peak performance longer between filter cleanings. I was disappointed because I have the same shop vac with a Thien baffle and was hoping you might demonstrate that the Dust Deputy would outperform the Thien baffle by either keeping the filter clean longer or by having less pressure drop than the Thien baffle. Otherwise a shop made Thien baffle at a fraction of the cost would be better value. Nice scenery at the end though.
Yep, I was about to write the same thing and saw your comment right up on top. Clean area has nothing to do with dust deputy but with shop vac. Clean shop vac filter is the reason to have a dust deputy which he made no mention of.
I just bought one with a lid and hose and some fittings for 50.00 on Amazon and the next one up was for around 90.00 so why pay 40.00 for a 5 gallon bucket
Great video !!! I have the dust Deputy 2.5 hooked up with my shop vac. Does a great job. You should also show what it looks like only the shop vac. I run nothing in my shop without this thing.
im sure the dust collecter helps to keep the washing machine filter in good condition also,but a blast from an air compressor does feel good on a hot day 😊. Nice video, beautiful scenery, not bad for horse n buggy technology keep em coming.

didn't mean to be misleading. yes the vac does the same thing but, only for a short time as the filter becomes clogged with... DUST. Enter the #DUST DEPUTY & you can cut all day before you need to empty the bucket while having continuously excellent suction from your Vac.

ok...now do the test just using the vacuum cleaner... surely the results will be the same asif you were using the deputy... your video gives one the idea the dust deputy is the reason you have no dust... i disagree, the vacuum is the reason you dont have dust as the deputy is just saving you time cleaning the vacuum cleaner... i would rather have done a filter test... with or without the deputy...
Yeah...I don't get it. That thing is not going to save you having to clean the vac filter. Maybe you'll have to clean it a LITTLE less but I really doubt it. And to have to jack with all that extra stuff? Nah....I'm fine with the vac alone. Filter cleaning is not really an issue unless you're running production for hours or something. Sawdust is not that hard on a filter. I mean, it's not like grinding concrete and dealing with THAT dust. For on-site, one-off stuff doing some trim and maybe a built-in or something, a vac alone is just fine. More efficient in fact than having to jack with all that extra stuff and it's setup.
@@SomeDumUsrName I'm working in a fixed set-up so not having to move it around but the DD makes a huge difference - nothing at all normally gets through to my vac and that vac's filter is a real pain to clean. Obviously you're also losing suction as the filter gets bocked so that's another benefit. I realised yesterday I needed to empty the bucket for my DD and it was totally full but still very little getting through to the vac even in that extreme situation. I would probably agree about not wanting to move it around with me if I was working on a more mobile basis but your doubts about its efficiency are misplaced.
Dust Deputy is fine product but check out the #Dustopper at HD before you decide if the #DUSTDEPUTY worth the money? Since the Dustopper is more compact (so it wont tip over as easily), easier to use just out of box (since it replace the the lid and just clicks on like the lid would), cheaper (and it included a hose and an elbow) and its just as effective (check the reviews). And it made in the US too by an entrepreneur.
@@hugavet3049 I actually decide just to redirect the inlet airflow of my round shop vac to create the cyclone/vortex separator affect and a thien style baffle to the bottom the filter. To separator out most the dust before it get to the shop vac filter. And I think I will add a partial shield around the filter to see if can get to point where I dont even have to even look at filter anymore. But this is more convenient for me than having separate dust separator. Thanks for your reply and good luck.
I just installed dust deputy kit for use on my festool ct 22 sandwrs and kepex saw. No longer going to pay 50 bucks for paper filter bags ,its just stupid. It works great,all thats needed is a grounding wire to eliminate static which at this point is minimal. Great value does the job.
I'm still amazed at the amount of dust this thing collects. no parts to wear out. keeps the shop vac filter clean and pulling perfect suction. ( I still use dust bags in my shop vac.) I'm glad you found this video helpful. check out some of my other videos for more pro tips and tricks! God bless!
whats more amazing is that round shop vac makers dont build in the cyclonic vortex dust separation in to the vac. By just reorienting the inlet to create the cyclonic vortex and adding thein baffle style separate. Which will keeps the filter cleaner far longer, without a separate dust separator. since most of the dust never reaches the filter.
Agreed. keeping the filter clean is what the Deputy does, ergo, better suction. I've never used a Thien. I'm sure that there are less expensive options that maybe work just as well. I'll look into the Thien and thanks for your comments. I'm always learning.

Yeah, editing videos takes time away from jobs that pay. Recording videos slows down the job that I'm on. I keep saying I'm going to get back to it. Please delete this video immediately and do one comparing your vacuum bag WITH and WITHOUT the Dust Deputy. I was stunned by the difference - and the only reason to buy one. During my testing cycle, I worked in my shop for hours and almost filled the Dust Deputy bucket. I then looked in the vacuum expecting to see maybe 25% of the sawdust in there. It was virtually empty!! The Deputy catches 95% of the chips and dust!!! THAT is why you make the video! The results are stunning! Previously I had added a dust bag to my vac because the round paper filter stays clean for weeks, but I had to replace the dust bag every day - (I tried to empty the bag and reuse, but it's a dusty mess to dump it out the small hole - forget it!). Now I work literally for days emptying the Dust Deputy bucket regularly and it's many days before the vacuum bag is even 1/4 full. And weeks later my round paper filter still is virtually clean. Who knew cyclones can do that?

Look up Ron Paulk on you tube and his TOTAL WORK STATION build. The method uses two 1 inch EMT pipe and the hanger is made from 4 pcs. Of 1/2 inch plywood stacked together.
agreed. the deputy saves the expensive bags also but why should I delete this video? doesn't the video display the effectiveness of the product? I can trim any average size house before I need to empty the bucket and I've been using the same filter bag for over a year.

That 2-socket auto plug you've got there. I presume its set up to pull off of 1 circuit. Might be a bit too much for a 20-amp breaker if you're running a table saw and shop vac. Just point that out.
I think he had no idea what the dust deputy was for at the time of the video, he is just showing how the floor looks like after cutting, it supposed that you show the contents of the vacuum inside to see how good the dust deputy is, in the beginning I thought the dust on the floor came from inside the vacuum.

DGC Products now also offers an i-Socket Classic Plus which features a 0.6 amp actuation threshold, allowing lighter-powered tools to be used. It says can be used with shop type wet/dry vacuum at 6.5 hp “Peak” rated at 120v/11 amps. The specs for the i-Socket Classic doesn't mention vacuum hp. Also, wondering which Ridgid vac you're using and whether you're pleased with it. Thanks!

Hey Bob, great demonstration of both products. I actually have a paulk workbench along with the dewalt table saw and I just purchased the dust deputy, although I haven't tried it out yet. I was wondering how you worked around getting the dust collector hose from the back of the saw without interfering with the bench? Keep up the great work!
I only paid $54 (and about $9 shipping) for my Dust Deputy on Amazon, and it was WELL worth it! All the time, back-n-forth, trial and error, $ spent, mistakes fixed, etc I would have wasted on attempting to build my own, would not have been worth it, and I most likely would have ended up frustrated and buying a DD anyway, LoL. Shop vac cleanings are very far and few between, easier, and I don't need to keep buying (or trying to clean and reuse) filter bags. I use sawdust for other projects, so it's nice to just have it set aside and sealed in a couple 5gl buckets instead of making a mess taking it from the vac and transferring it into something else. Good product, great price vs. the small conveniences it affords.
If you've got an empty 5 gallon bucket with a lid on hand you can make one for about $2. If not, you can buy a "Homer" bucket from Home Depot for $3.25, and a lid for $2 or so. I just took a bucket, cut a hole in the lid, jammed the hose from my new Ridgid vac into that. I could have gotten fancy and reinforced the lid, making a mount for the vac hose, but it wasn't absolutely necessary. The fit wasn't perfect, but it was good enough. Then I cut another hole in the side of the bucket, as close to the ridges at the top as possible, took two pieces of standard ABS plumbing, and dry-fit them together through the hole. One screw driven through the lowest ridge kept them from turning, as I wanted the 45° fitting on the inside of the bucket to direct the dust downward a bit. I put some sealant around it to prevent air leaking into the bucket. The 1½" hose I had lying around from my old Shop-Vac™ fit perfectly into the outside ABS piece once I cut off the wand part with a razor knife. That hose conveniently had a 2¼" (outside diameter) fitting on the other that fit the dust port of my DeWalt table saw. The same fitting that had previously connected to the vacuum cleaner. The bucket end was secured to the outer ABS fitting with duct tape. (not really necessary, as it stayed in fine without the duct tape.) It works great, and only a tiny amount of fine dust makes it into the vacuum cleaner. If I add a baffle below the cyclone, I won't even see that. I'll have to find a second bucket lid, cut it down a bit, cut slots around the perimeter, and jam it into the bucket if I want to get rid of that last bit. The way these things work is dead simple. Bernoulli's Principle says that if air moves faster, the pressure drops. So the pressure of the dust-laden air that you get to spin around the bucket is lower than the air in the center of the bucket. The dust can't move from a low pressure to a high pressure, so it can only drop to the bottom of the bucket... ...and Bob's your uncle.

I bought a Chinese knock-off from Amazon for $19 2 yrs ago (they're $23-26 now) and a 30gal. drum for about 39 with no S&H for either compared to Oneida over charging everyone for theirs. It works just as well Even with this small shop I couldn't even think of why a 5gal bucket would be used,I dump the 30 gal. every day or 2.The 14 gal. Rigid shop vac works just fine with a planer (the biggest chip producer),tablesaw,mitersaw,shaper,routertable,lathe,os sander,and drillpress. I hate buying Chinese but I hate getting ripped off even more.

It isn't when the Chinese knockoffs do just as good of a job for less than 1/2 the price. Also I'd get rid of that vac,the Rigid 14gal vac has 168 cfm compared to that one at 97cfm.
Just bought a clone from China - £10 ($15) for the cyclone only. Hoping it works as well as the DD... it certainly looks the same externally. I also can't see any internal cyclone structure through the DD's semi-opaque plastic, so hoping for identical performance

+Jeff Mucha / my emphasis was on the LACK of dust in the air and on the floor. My point is, if you're not using one now, you'll be glad to finally get one. I don't always set it up but i always wish that would have. Cheaper models exist. Mine was worth every penny.
I've had a dust deputy for years and love it. I have no dust bag in the vacuum, and there's only fine layer of dust on the bottom. But I also have one of those i-switch outlets, unopened, in a drawer, also with a fine layer of dust because I have not figured out how to use both tools without blowing my 20 amp outlet. I know someone else asked about this, but I couldn't find an answer. Any tips?

Also just some tips Im not a video maker or anything but I think the transitions between clips would be better if it was just a plain switch. Liked your review and comments to keep a Jobsite clean and all, however the dust deputy is mainly to keep the extractor/vacuum clean and premature clogging up the filter= longer high suction maintained. Your review on how it leaves dust around the table saw is irrelevant and if you wanted a more superb clean site around the table saw, then you should hook up the Sawstop table saw that has a better dust control system.
Totally understood, even the best table saw ( like the festool) would not get all the dust like MDF completely. But your video illustrates well that the dust deputy does the job well.

I am confused by your video. You are giving credit to the Dust Deputy for extracting the dust and that is not the case. The credit goes to whatever machine you have connected to the Dust Deputy. I like that you are reviewing the DD but it is a little misleading since the DD does not create any of the actual suction. I think you should clarify the purpose of the DD and not show how much it prevents dust from getting on the floor.

Its a great tool to have but I really don't think $100 bucks is worth it for what it does. I can make the same thing at home with stuff I have laying around for free. Even if I did have to spend some money, it would be a few bucks for a couple 5 gallon buckets at a cost of what? $5 bucks? If you're not handy and have the money then by all means, buy one. I'm handy so I will make one for a fraction of the cost.

Brute trash can in several sizes works well. Make your wown lid to save money and to add strength. You can even use a trash bag inside. pull out throw away.
Let me know how many trips you make to the store for connectors, screws, oh wait you forgot sealant. Let me know what you spend and how many hours you spend doing it. Myself, I will be working making money and after that, I will be chilling. I hope you dont waste to many hours, trips to the store, and frustration building that thing. Sometimes a small price to pay is worth it. Just as buying the stand alone for 52 bucks then having to buy the connectors, hose, wheels, etc which would probably cost me another 30 bucks.. so I spent 50 instead and have it all set to go. I will enjoy work and making money or finishing that project or maybe enjoying some relaxing time rather than messing around with building my own version.

I never have been to Maroon Bells but I do know what and where they is, we always went to Rocky Mountain National Park before we moved to Alaska.

Please delete this video immediately and do one comparing your vacuum bag WITH and WITHOUT the Dust Deputy.
I was stunned by the difference - and the only reason to buy one.
During my testing cycle, I worked in my shop for hours and almost filled the Dust Deputy bucket. I then looked in the vacuum expecting to see maybe 25% of the sawdust in there. It was virtually empty!! The Deputy catches 95% of the chips and dust!!!
THAT is why you make the video!
The results are stunning! Previously I had added a dust bag to my vac because the round paper filter stays clean for weeks, but I had to replace the dust bag every day - (I tried to empty the bag and reuse, but it's a dusty mess to dump it out the small hole - forget it!). Now I work literally for days emptying the Dust Deputy bucket regularly and it's many days before the vacuum bag is even 1/4 full. And weeks later my round paper filter still is virtually clean.
Who knew cyclones can do that?

Look up Ron Paulk on you tube and his TOTAL WORK STATION build. The method uses two 1 inch EMT pipe and the hanger is made from 4 pcs. Of 1/2 inch plywood stacked together.

agreed. the deputy saves the expensive bags also but why should I delete this video? doesn't the video display the effectiveness of the product? I can trim any average size house before I need to empty the bucket and I've been using the same filter bag for over a year.

That 2-socket auto plug you've got there. I presume its set up to pull off of 1 circuit. Might be a bit too much for a 20-amp breaker if you're running a table saw and shop vac. Just point that out.

I think he had no idea what the dust deputy was for at the time of the video, he is just showing how the floor looks like after cutting, it supposed that you show the contents of the vacuum inside to see how good the dust deputy is, in the beginning I thought the dust on the floor came from inside the vacuum.
Hmmm? He was showing the amount of dust on the floor WITH & WITHOUT using the Dust Deputy as a comparison to show how helpful the Dust Deputy can be.

DGC Products now also offers an i-Socket Classic Plus which features a 0.6 amp actuation threshold, allowing lighter-powered tools to be used. It says can be used with shop type wet/dry vacuum at 6.5 hp “Peak” rated at 120v/11 amps. The specs for the i-Socket Classic doesn't mention vacuum hp. Also, wondering which Ridgid vac you're using and whether you're pleased with it. Thanks!
By the way, I'm a flatlander from Indiana but absolutely love Colorado. Sunrise at the Maroon Bells was a bucket list item I was able to check off. God bless you as well.

Hey Bob, great demonstration of both products. I actually have a paulk workbench along with the dewalt table saw and I just purchased the dust deputy, although I haven't tried it out yet. I was wondering how you worked around getting the dust collector hose from the back of the saw without interfering with the bench? Keep up the great work!

God, I love Colorado!
I only paid $54 (and about $9 shipping) for my Dust Deputy on Amazon, and it was WELL worth it! All the time, back-n-forth, trial and error, $ spent, mistakes fixed, etc I would have wasted on attempting to build my own, would not have been worth it, and I most likely would have ended up frustrated and buying a DD anyway, LoL. Shop vac cleanings are very far and few between, easier, and I don't need to keep buying (or trying to clean and reuse) filter bags. I use sawdust for other projects, so it's nice to just have it set aside and sealed in a couple 5gl buckets instead of making a mess taking it from the vac and transferring it into something else. Good product, great price vs. the small conveniences it affords.
If you've got an empty 5 gallon bucket with a lid on hand you can make one for about $2. If not, you can buy a "Homer" bucket from Home Depot for $3.25, and a lid for $2 or so.
I just took a bucket, cut a hole in the lid, jammed the hose from my new Ridgid vac into that. I could have gotten fancy and reinforced the lid, making a mount for the vac hose, but it wasn't absolutely necessary. The fit wasn't perfect, but it was good enough.
Then I cut another hole in the side of the bucket, as close to the ridges at the top as possible, took two pieces of standard ABS plumbing, and dry-fit them together through the hole. One screw driven through the lowest ridge kept them from turning, as I wanted the 45° fitting on the inside of the bucket to direct the dust downward a bit. I put some sealant around it to prevent air leaking into the bucket.
The 1½" hose I had lying around from my old Shop-Vac™ fit perfectly into the outside ABS piece once I cut off the wand part with a razor knife. That hose conveniently had a 2¼" (outside diameter) fitting on the other that fit the dust port of my DeWalt table saw. The same fitting that had previously connected to the vacuum cleaner. The bucket end was secured to the outer ABS fitting with duct tape. (not really necessary, as it stayed in fine without the duct tape.)
It works great, and only a tiny amount of fine dust makes it into the vacuum cleaner. If I add a baffle below the cyclone, I won't even see that. I'll have to find a second bucket lid, cut it down a bit, cut slots around the perimeter, and jam it into the bucket if I want to get rid of that last bit.
The way these things work is dead simple. Bernoulli's Principle says that if air moves faster, the pressure drops. So the pressure of the dust-laden air that you get to spin around the bucket is lower than the air in the center of the bucket. The dust can't move from a low pressure to a high pressure, so it can only drop to the bottom of the bucket... ...and Bob's your uncle.
FYI-Dust Deputy is fine product but check out the Dustopper at HD that is more compact (so it wont tip over), easier to use just out of box (since it replace the the lid and just clicks on like the lid would), cheaper (and it included a hose and an elbow) and its just as effective (check the reviews). And it made in the US too by an entrepreneur.
And for the fools ranting about $2 solutions and about things they know nothing about like the Bernoulli Principle. So just post it to utube so we can get a good laugh out of it or ST*U
I bought a Chinese knock-off from Amazon for $19 2 yrs ago (they're $23-26 now) and a 30gal. drum for about 39 with no S&H for either compared to Oneida over charging everyone for theirs.

Even with this small shop I couldn't even think of why a 5gal bucket would be used,I dump the 30 gal. every day or 2.The 14 gal. Rigid shop vac works just fine with a planer (the biggest chip producer),tablesaw,mitersaw,shaper,routertable,lathe,os sander,and drillpress.

I appreciate the comparison. I've got a decent dust collection system I apparently built wrong and is now for sale. I keep my shop vac next to it (I still gotta clean the truck) but there no sense in having 2 different systems!

Just bought a clone from China - £10 ($15) for the cyclone only. Hoping it works as well as the DD... it certainly looks the same externally. I also can't see any internal cyclone structure through the DD's semi-opaque plastic, so hoping for identical performance

I've had a dust deputy for years and love it. I have no dust bag in the vacuum, and there's only fine layer of dust on the bottom.
But I also have one of those i-switch outlets, unopened, in a drawer, also with a fine layer of dust because I have not figured out how to use both tools without blowing my 20 amp outlet. I know someone else asked about this, but I couldn't find an answer. Any tips?

Also just some tips Im not a video maker or anything but I think the transitions between clips would be better if it was just a plain switch. The animation kinda throws me off and I think the videos would be more professional without it. Lastly what type of stuff do you do for the thumbnail? The better the thumbnail the more people are going to watch the videos.

Liked your review and comments to keep a Jobsite clean and all, however the dust deputy is mainly to keep the extractor/vacuum clean and premature clogging up the filter= longer high suction maintained. Your review on how it leaves dust around the table saw is irrelevant and if you wanted a more superb clean site around the table saw, then you should hook up the Sawstop table saw that has a better dust control system.

Totally understood, even the best table saw ( like the festool) would not get all the dust like MDF completely. But your video illustrates well that the dust deputy does the job well.

I am confused by your video. You are giving credit to the Dust Deputy for extracting the dust and that is not the case. The credit goes to whatever machine you have connected to the Dust Deputy. I like that you are reviewing the DD but it is a little misleading since the DD does not create any of the actual suction. I think you should clarify the purpose of the DD and not show how much it prevents dust from getting on the floor.

Its a great tool to have but I really don't think $100 bucks is worth it for what it does. I can make the same thing at home with stuff I have laying around for free. Even if I did have to spend some money, it would be a few bucks for a couple 5 gallon buckets at a cost of what? $5 bucks? If you're not handy and have the money then by all means, buy one. I'm handy so I will make one for a fraction of the cost.

I tried building one out of a heavy duty trash can but the suction collapsed the can. I considered using a steal can next time but the value of something ready to go was worth it to me.

Brute trash can in several sizes works well. Make your wown lid to save money and to add strength. You can even use a trash bag inside. pull out throw away.
Let me know how many trips you make to the store for connectors, screws, oh wait you forgot sealant. Let me know what you spend and how many hours you spend doing it. Myself, I will be working making money and after that, I will be chilling. I hope you dont waste to many hours, trips to the store, and frustration building that thing. Sometimes a small price to pay is worth it. Just as buying the stand alone for 52 bucks then having to buy the connectors, hose, wheels, etc which would probably cost me another 30 bucks.. so I spent 50 instead and have it all set to go. I will enjoy work and making money or finishing that project or maybe enjoying some relaxing time rather than messing around with building my own version.
