My dude!! This couldn’t have come at a better time! I started subbing to you a couple of years ago when I was living in Colorado and began learning how to snowboard (I’m originally from FL and learned to snowboard at age 48 lol). You gave some dope beginner tips that I used to accelerate my learning process. Super stoked by that. Now at 50 I moved back to FL (job change, life, pandemic, etc 😂) and I’m looking to pick back up surfing. I surfed off and on thru the years but have taken many, many years off so it’s like I’m a beginner again basically. So I’m super stoked to get back out in the waves. Kelly Slater is my guy being that he’s out there putting in work for us old dudes (I’m certainly no Slater but one needs an idol). Thanks for this video. Other beginner tips could be help as well like paddling efficiency, pop ups, reading sets, setup, overall safety, etc. Keep slaying my man! For the dream!! 🤙🏾 Mahalo my dude. 🙏🏾
Turtle & SLICED RAIL DUCKDIVE ( look it up) are the go to’s for longboards. I duck dive my 9’ log all the time. This morning on some bombs too. And obviously duck dive for short boards.
What if i wanna bring a 7’6 foam board out? Is turtle roll, push up technique, and the racket launching technique are my best choice ? Cuz can’t can’t do duck dive
Have u heard of, moving to the side of board and pulling the nose of board toward stomach to avoid board flying while wave breaks? I tried that trick but then the wave hit my head and flipped my board and me over Is there a proper way of doing this trick?
Im surfing in Bali and waves are very powerful, even the small ones. The only thing that seems to work for me is dirching the board and swimming under the waves but then I almost get my ankle ripped off by the leash. I thought surfing was meant to be fun! What should I do if Im caught under a 6ft wave which is about to break on my head?
bali is not a place for beginners if the waves are even slightly heavy! But go to dreamland, or little padang to practice at first and learn how to duckdive, cuz ditching your floatation device is not safe for you and can hurt others! but as a beginner you also want to be on a 7-8 foot foam board. i think going to a beach with sand somewhere else is your best bet to learn, bali is for very experienced surfers and its crowded beyond belief!
@@CaseyWillax I watched some pro's on RUclips who all ditch or bail bigger boards because they say you can't duck dive them. I think bailing is fine if there is no one around you but in very crowded spots that's never the case. Thanks for replying.
Yo casey i have about just as much facial hair as you and i never shave unless it starts to get food and bugs stuck in it but I recommend just dry shaving its more then decent and it saves some coin instead of buying shaving cream
Hey man, I went surfing for the second time ever earlier today. It was extremely choppy and I wasnt even able to get out to the breaks. I was getting pushed backwards over and over, but next time I go out I'll remember what you said in this video. What really freaked me out today though was a sideways current that would carry me 200+ yards down the shore from where I put in. I noticed the waves were also coming in at an angle. I was able to ride some whitewater but I never got on a proper wave. Is a strong sideways current a common thing surfers deal with? These waves seemed like they were maybe 5ft or so high. Biggest I've ever been around at least for my area.
This all depends on where you were surfing. Did you just pick a random part of the beach and try to paddle out? Or were you surfing a specific surf spot? Keep at it though! It takes longer than you think to figure out how to position yourself on your board to paddle correctly.
That's what we have on the east coast or west coast in FL, most of the time there is size. A lot of chop, and heavy rip tide down the beach. You described it exactly.
‘Take a knee and just think about a couple things your great full for’ Legendary words
Daily notion!! Yewww

Turtle roll and push up for sure. The rocket launching is when no one’s around
Thanks for the tutorial.
You're welcome!

Haha that sounds gnarly!
Pretty grateful I don’t have to shave everyday... I just use soap, and put coconut oil on after done.
Take the ripcurl and land on the next beach you see.
Haha
