  • Make your own personal mister for a cool & constant spray of water to beat the heat. See how to make two versions of the patio mister on a personal use size plus several hacks & mods to Dial it in for your needs. The easiest version can be made for just over $1 but you can expand from there!
The Dialed In Mister version is great for use by a lounge chair, patio chair, folding chair or anywhere you need some cooled, moist air!
Key Materials (1/2" PVC parts & a brass mister nozzle):
    - Brass mister nozzle (I got 20 on Amazon for just over $10 total)
    - PVC end cap (1 for each nozzle used)
    - 1/2" PVC pipe
    - PVC T-connector
    - PVC corner connector
    - 3+ male PVC connectors
    - 1/2" to 3/4" hose connector
    - PVC elbow connector
    - PVC cement (aka glue)
    - Garden hose (if you don't already have one)
I used 1/2" PVC but you can use 3/4" too. My hose connection is ~3/4" so I had to convert the 1/2" pipe at the base with a 3/4" hose connector which makes it easier and more convenient to hook up. On the "Basic Mister" I had a 1/2" hose hook up so I was able to put the mister directly onto a hose for a handheld mister that works great!

Thanks for the idea..my 93 suburban is black and has no AC..I live in Florida and we are 50 million miles closer to the sun..I think I will add a few of these to keep me and the dogs cool when we go for a ride..I will need to find a water tank and 12 volt water pump.

I suggest using a washer with a screen like you would see on a washing machine connection to keep debris from clogging the mister.

This could work nicely with water stored underground to keep it nice and cool. Though then you'd need to add a pump and suddenly the system gets a lot more complex

Temp recently hit 100 degrees F here and our AC went out... Ugh! We used the double mister mod to escape the heat and were all amazed with how much it helped!

Hi, does the mister help with mosquitos. We have monster mosquitos in Houston, Texas. Any ideas on adding some-type of siphoning attachment for a mosquito repellent? Thanks for the video and help. I’m going to subscribe today.

That is a great idea! I think it could be workable to add a reservoir (bottle) with citronella or some other item that could be added into the water; much like a power washer pulls soap from an attachment. The opening on the mister is so small that it would need a mixture that kept everything freely flowing without getting clogged. I will have to do some experimenting at some point. Thanks for watching, commenting and Subscribing. I really appreciate it!

sorry... forgot to answer the first part. By itself I have not noticed a change in bugs so I think it would definitely need an added agent to ward off mosquitos.

great idea, is there a way to make using a fountain pump? I would like this for my birds, they would love it as a shower. thanks.

Thanks for the feedback and for viewing! I like your idea and yes, it should work. It will all depend upon the pump you have (I have made portable versions of this using hand pump pressure). Just make sure to get mister nozzles and not foggers (foggers need more pressure). If I get a chance I will try this out but in the meantime if you do try it, I'd love to hear how it turns out!

Thank you. I made a mister. Some of the mist spray nozzles don't mist. They send a light stream of water instead. Ideas?

When I have had something similar happen it was usually one of two things happening. 1. There is not enough pressure getting to the nozzle. 2. Something has partially clogged the nozzle. Trying wiping off both sides of the nozzle, flushing the line with water - without the nozzle on and then set it up and try again. Does that help?

@@DialedInDIY Thank you. I will try that. The instructions I followed req'd the height to be around 9 feet. I only have 7' 6" to work with. Do you think having it this low has prevented the stream from turning to a mist? Thanks for your video.

@@jbdelaney2767 Good question but fortunately a shorter distance should maintain the pressure. If trying to wipe of the non-working mister (or cleaning it) doesn't work let me know and I will think about what other issues may be happening.

One option is an online store like Amazon. Do a search for "Greenhouse misting kit" and you will find some options that should work for your needs. Hope that helps. Thanks for checking out my video.

Only thing is that from where I can get the mist spray nozzles

I bought the nozzles I used in the video on Amazon but I have also been able to find them in hardware stores. On-line prices have typically been much better for me. Thanks for the question and for watching the video!

so you have to keep the water on all the time. Not just when it calls for it

    • @DialedInDIY
      @DialedInDIY  6 лет назад

Hi Mike. If I understand your question correctly, then no you don't have to keep the water on at all times. I just turn it on and off when I want the misters on (like turning a hose on and off). Did that answer your question or did I misunderstand? Thanks for watching and for your question.
