  • I shot this video for my friends at Beginner's Mind BJJ. This is a highly effective escape from the back mount for two reasons: 1) Scooting down low changes the angle of your opponent's back control and makes submissions less effective. 2) Not a lot of people teach this escape. I hope you find this helpful!

Charles Tuo thank you for your comment! I don’t have a video on mount escapes, I’ll be sure to shoot one soon! Please check out my videos on my page on side control escapes and guard retention and let me know if you have any questions. From there I’d be happy to shoot more videos to help you.

When someone scoots down like that, the first thing I do is grab my shin and lock a triangle. How do you prevent that?

Jason Goyer do you lock a body triangle or the triangle from the back submission?

@@BJJBlackBeltDad triangle from back, maybe since you are keeping your arms down, the leg can't slide up under the arm? Will have to experiment with the escape.

Jason Goyer yes, shoulders shrugged, chin tucked, and elbows glued to ribs. I’m also ready at a moments notice to switch to the traditional ‘back to the mat’ escape.
