I'm currently in the process of applying for the Fall 2021 Term and majoring in Communication Design. I'm worried my portfolio won't be strong enough. Do you have any tips for a portfolio with Graphic Design and stuff and how many recommended pieces there would be? Either way, thank you for your videos and tips :)

Hey! I'm currently doing my first year in community college majoring in graphic design but I am interested in transferring to Parson's for a Communication Design major just like yours. Can you tell me more about what type of assignments or work that you guys do? I'm planning to becoming a UX/UI designer.. the only thing holding me back is that I'm actually very shy and introverted it makes me want to change my career path since I know presenting your design ideas and research to others is crucial hahah ,:) Do you think this major could also help me become a web designer if possible?

Hi :) So I'd say graphic design is more strictly 2-D digital work that has to do with typography. Think posters, books, and magazines. (Digital and 3-D work) On the other hand, I think Parsons calls it Communication design because there is an element of traditional graphic design however there are other pathways you can take that are in the more broad "graphic" space aka typography design, motion graphic design, and UX/UI design. Pretty much any design that is on a screen. I may be biased, but I chose UX/UI design (called Web/Mobile design pathway under Communication Design @ Parsons). I made a few vids on my channel about it Hope this helps!!
@@sharonyeunkim ah, okay. that makes sense. i've always been confused about the difference for the longest time. i love graphic design even though i'm actually leaning more towards going to an art school for animation. but since graphic or communication design is my backup plan, parsons caught my attention. would you mind doing a video on the different pathways under the communication design major at parsons? thanks for explaining, good luck with school!
So I got my portfolio approved for admission and I’m waiting for my scholarship amount I’ve been binging your videos but were there other opportunities for funding outside merit scholarships?

Hey Sharon, not sure if you know about Cooper Union. Would you recommend Parsons when it comes to Visual Communication instead of Cooper Union?
I think both are good choices! I can’t speak much for Cooper Union, but if you choose parsons though, go for the Communication Design major.
