The irony of his comments on MAME and Billy's trustworthiness is just too much. I liked Steve Sanders in the movie because even though he was clearly Billy's friend, he seemed like he was very welcoming towards Steve Wiebe and actually was disappointed when Wiebe failed to break the (bogus video) record at the Guinness competition in Florida. But the whole problem with TG was the idea that certain gamers - Billy Mitchell and Todd Rogers most prominently - were above reproach and no one was allowed to even question whatever they claimed.

Walter was the one that organised the publicity piece and gave the player information to the magazines, why wont they come clean after all this time and tell the truth that Walter was in on it and helped them make up their profiles?
Walter wanted to portray that he had all the best players from US arcades there, so orchestrated everything because he had craved publicity and fame all his life, he made several failed attempts to break into showbiz through his life and his last failure was a recording artist lol, he thought he was going to turn them into superstar gamers and be the manager but it did not work, people lost interest fast.

I am finding that really hard to believe. for one thing, nobody in 2006 under the age of 30 gave a shit about Donkey Kong. and the movie hadn't even come out yet, so how the hell would this kid know of, let alone idolize, Billy Mitchell? Sounds like exactly the kind of story Billy would wildly exaggerate, though. I would have loved to be there in the room for that appearance, though. Not true. Here in Ga where I live we have a convention called Southern Fried Gaming Expo once a year. Billy Mitchell usually drives up to make appearances and on his way back to Hollywood Florida he stopped at a barcade named Retro Reboot and Bar.
The owner Jeremy had never seen the documentary King of Kong, but noticed a tall guy with long hair playing his Donkey Kong and after about 2 and a half hours he decided to walk over to the machine to notice this guy was over 800,000 thousands points and went on to break a million before the the kill screen. He then stared talking with the guy and found out he was Billy Mitchell and learned of the documentary. He asked Billy to autograph that King Kong and Billy did.

Billy Mitchell arrogant? Maybe. Billy Mitchell confidant. Yes. he is a business owner, and an entrepreneur. It comes with the territory. Now that Someone, from neither side has the record, it wipes the slate clear. I am not making any judgments about anyone in this film, as I think they are all lying (in one form, or another). The movie was contrived, and ugly sides were shown. Captain Awesome is the only one with no reason to lie.

Billy Mitchell is arrogant. He was also used to play the villain and Steve the hero. Billy's score the one you seen at fun spot recorded was purposely scored to beat what Steves 947k record was at the time of playing it by 100k. The score in the movie where it was 1.047 was on a 1.1 pace until billy laid up to just beat Steve by 100k.

@Crazyfuqndude There is obviously more to the story than what was portrayed in the film. And if you had any sense, you would be able to recognize that. Stop being mean.

@steveingvar I get that feeling too. I dislike how some people judge Sanders and Billy based entirely on how they were portrayed in this movie, I'm sure they're both nice people in real life.

Its easy to forget that Billy managed to destroy everyone back in 1982 without the use of the internet or sharing strategies. Steve W and Hank etc. would never have come close without the way in which we share information now.

I always thought Steve Saunders was kind of stuck in the middle. He's a very decent person as you can tell from the documentary and I've met Walter Day and Billy Mitchell at SFGE in Atlanta and they both were very nice. I don't doubt either Billy Mitchell's ability to kill Donkey Kong or Steve Weibe's ability.

When someone donates money or volunteers their services to ANY charity, its usually in bad taste to mention the fact to anyone, just for a positive reaction Mr Sanders!
Even if it's one of your friends.
    Shame on you.
