As someone who has preferred Scotch in the past, this was the first Bourbon that actually held my interest. I get a little sweet "fruitness" like a Highland and a little pepper/smoke like an Islay. I've tried so many Bourbons that were suppose to be "sweet", but the sweetness on my tongue gets destroyed by the ethanol. Not Maker's 46 ... the bottle was very pleasant.
They finish it year around in a warehouse that’s dug out of the side of the hill. It stays a fairly consistent temperature in there. It’s also where they finish the private selects. The distillery sells a private select that’s all 46 staves, that’s essentially a cask strength 46 and it’s really good and it has a a bit more complexity that the 94 proof lacks.
They finish it in an underground cellar at 50 degrees F. Finish is 9 weeks long. And they experimented with the staves and Makers 46 was the 46th recipe out of, I think over 100. Went to the distillery tour this week so all of this info came from there
i read that the 46 comes from the barrel producers designation for the style of barrels Makers wants is internally known as barrel #46. Makers took their designation and used it in the name.
I keep passing this one up... I'm just finishing the Cask Strength and found it to be pretty good... Gonna have to give this one a try... Nice review, as always, guys...
A few months ago I bought a 375 mL of this with little forethought and research thinking it might be more interesting than the flagship offering. After trying a lot of bourbon in the last 8 months I think this is one of the best
Jules made a comment "I can't see it as an 8.5" which i don't agree with. I feel like that's the point of this show, to be unbiased and decide an honest score aside from personal/popular opinion. This is suppose to show that some "cheaper" bourbons aren't cheap in quality, and can actually be as good if not better than "higher grade" bourbons. I don't think a rating should be kept lower just to keep it from getting a higher score. Which I understand that an 8 is a really good score, but if it checks all the marks (no pun intended), then it should get a higher score than you expected. Let's face it, this stuff is a 1 for value and Jules is wrong :p
You guys nailed it. I tried this at a bar. I thought "pepper"! I just had some of my Weller yesterday and its way sweeter missing the pepper. Just personal preference, I prefer Weller because of this one characteristic. Good review guys
You guys should scrap the value score. If A unique double matured wheated bourbon that is available EVERYWHERE and costs THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS does NOT get a 1.0 then that category is useless or someone is being a pain in the ass.
Hmm it's just overpriced where you're at. 23 dollars for regular makers after tax, 32 dollars after tax for makers 46, and I think like 50 after tax for cask strength. I am more than happy to pay those prices
They don't mature it in the winter anymore. they have a climate controlled "cave" that they built and stays at 60 degrees year round. I was told they barely kick on the AC

Love that you guys reviewed something that I can actually find! Good stuff!!
I LOVE this format!! I need to find a wine channel like this! Keep it up guys!
Highly underrated and available. Excellent review!
This is the cleanest review of a Bourbon I ever saw on this channel. I like it, pretty fast forward, no controversies.

Always in my bar. Bang on review.
U guys should re review the same bourbons but do it blindly. It would be interesting to compare the scores between blind and not

Thanks for watching!!!
They sell the cask strength 46 at the distillery. Loretta Ky

Mix Makers "46" with Makers Cask strength to bring the proof of the "46" up and keep some of the same "46" flavors.
Just buy the RC when it comes out each year.

Makers 46 will be permanently tattooed on my forehead. JK! but you guys make me want to do it. Great video!
what do you call wetter funk? new to the channel
If Makers put a BIB out they would not be able to keep it on the shelf.
If they put out a 10 or 12 year addition it would be on allocation
There was a 101 Makers many years ago .. I think around 1983 , would be collectable and extremely expensive nowadays .
46 a proper bourbon, :))
Great review, the guys were spot on.
We need you now more than ever 2020
the best on the market no matter what price point. Enjoy
Didn't Dillon pick Eagle Rare over Maker 46 in a blind test? Didn't he pick Marker's 46 over Weller.? Blind testing are the best.
Miss you guys!

$28 at the big box bought this morning.
$19.99 in California! Menlo Park Wine and Spirits
so I had heard that the "46" is actually the char # that was used.
What is "wheater funk"? Please define your terms.
I think we are alone now.... The beating of our hearts is the only sound...
I love makers but I’m not a fan of the French oak staves. Left a weird dry feeling in my mouth.
excellent review
I here there is a barrel proof 46 coming soon
Can Ben have a little bourbon with his water??? WTF!!! Cmon Man is fucking 94 proof!!!!
Gotta love that Ben...

Makers is priced so weirdly nowadays. Regular is 33.99, which is a terrible deal. 101 is 39.99, 46 is 43.99 and cask strength is 44.99

Wax off bro
Final Score 8.0
I'm paying $30 for Makers 46
