Madonna had to work hard at what she did, was subversive pushing cultural norms and fashion in an iconic and positive way in my opinion. Honestly, no artist regardless of genre creates 100% good art 100% of the time. Actually, no one produces good work regardless of their industry, 100% of the time. Such expectations are what lead so many otherwise healthy humans to become overstressed, overworked, overwhelmed, and leads to crippling anxiety, self doubt, depression and burnout among other more serious things. Everyone, no matter how successful will “flop” at some point. The important thing is how they react when it happens.

Likewise, I also remember an older interview where she said she wanted to have certain music styles, but Warner didn't let her and made her extremely pop. I honestly love every single song of the album, and I'm happy for her that she could do something more true to herself and no so marketable.

  • @andresoropeza90
    @andresoropeza90 2 дня назад +305

    I LOVED Future Nostalgia, like it was the 1st time I actually liked every single song on an album. What I think happened with RO was that the 2 first singles gave an underground-berlin ish- organic-synth kind of vibe, the sound was very up and energetic so everyone was kinda expecting that from the rest of the album (I know I was), even the aesthetics were giving underground club, rave scene...so when the album came out and the other songs were softer, with acoustics sounds and chill, even the aesthetics with the beach, the blue, the more relaxed vibe, it all felt VERY different to what the teasers were. I think RO flopped not because is bad (cause I think it's not) but because it didn't follow the concept that was originally presented. We were promised a rave in an underground club and ended up with a gathering at the beach in a lounge bar drinking cocktails 😅

I remember Mark Ronson in an interview saying he'd listened to her upcoming album and that it was so innovative and that it was going to revolutionize pop music... I think I got tired from Dua's music, voice and style during Barbie the movie promotion, this song Dance the night away was EVERYWHERE, in every short. And it's shallow as fuck.
    I think Dua's style could be closer to Prisoner or her collab with French singer "Fever". This songs are sensual, dramatic, they're exploring some other sides of female sexuality, they're still bouncy pop songs but with some deeper, sadder twist to them.
    I think Dua's lower voice and pocker face with hidden emotions could be perfect for more poetic music

      70s disco is her sound though. She understands the genre well and it fits her voice. It’s a genre that successfully reaches all age groups. She can change it up by fusing disco with a genre like rock to create a new sound. Yet still remaining true to her most suited genre. She could sample older sounds like chic, led zeppelin etc. she has a talent of taking the old and re-inventing it into something new. That’s why FN was miles better than her debut. Disco and 80s synth-wave/pop mesh together beautifully. She’s captivating because no one has done that so well.
      She needs to lean into an old-school sound again with a coherent vision/identity and creative music videos that tell a story from start to finish.

    The marketing side/overexposure might be correct but I absolutely DO NOT agree with the criticism of RO. I just caught her tour in Asia, and it blew my freaking mind. The album is short, but also GOOD. It simply is a very good, very solid pop album. It doesn't have to be FN big, not every product of every artist will be the same. This level of expected perfectionism puts the artists in cages, then they are criticised for that. Idk, I feel like Miss Dua does not deserve the level of criticism on her music, especially when she is constantly improving her music and dance while finding her voice more and more authentically. She is constantly improving but that seems to go unnoticed. It is also so unnecessary to expect her to the trends, she is whoever she is. Sometimes you are just a female alpha for 10 years because that is your core brand. Like LDR being a sad & horny girl. I don't understand why this is an issue when it comes to Dua.

    She changed her team to a new incompetent one and that's pretty much it + her constantly vacationing imo;
    The entire Radical Optimism era was an inconsistent consecution of changes & incoherences, not only marketing but also musical wise contradictions (which can be guessed just by listening to her album; like, Houdini in the same album as French Exit?).
    Also, this girl is just enjoying her life lol. Constantly travelling, with her podcast and book club and overall having a good time seems to be more of a priority than her album for her (she's my FAVOURITE artist, but let's be real. With Future Nostalgia she seemed HUNGRY for success and cultural impact; with Radical Optimism, that was a nice backtrack playlist for her Ibiza chillout tanning session)

    For an artist to sustain the public perception of their music as great over a very long period of time is a statistical anomaly. Very few artists have done it in relation to how many artists there have been throughout history. The one's who have done it are the one's we consider the GOATs and are probably something like the .000000000001% of all musicians to ever live. Point is this: most artists will fall off from their peak at some point...and it's ok. Someone like Dua has still achieved a level of success that puts her in a small minority of musicians ever, and even if she loses 60 million listeners, or whatever, she can still adjust and continue to have a very successful career. Nowadays ppl just love to overhype every come up and every fall off, when both are natural parts of not only music careers but of life in general.

    My take on this analysis is that if Dua wants to stick w/ doing those dull colors she could still take the route of relatability by showing a (somewhat) realistic turn of self improvement and relating to the girls that hyped her up on “New Rules” by going the “I’m in my me era” and showing that it’s okay to take time for yourself and be open to indulging in self serving activities/hobbies (I.e,”., dinner w/ the girls, going out, but also, staying in and reading, gardening, etc.) showing how she living life as a boss girl while taking time to herself even while being a pop star. I think this would be a nice album concept (if this is at least semi-real in her own life). Maybe do one of the boss girl collabs w/ Charlie XCX and another one of the soft ones w/ Sabrina and maybe show a clip of the XCX video like a teaser in the Sabrina collab while she’s in a “off duty” moment, w/ the muted colors. That way she is taking a pivot and going somewhat with the times but showing she’s still who we’ve known her to be these last few years. (Also, if her marketing team uses this idea I want my 5-10% email me)

Future Nostalgia may have launched her into the stardom, but her initial appeal was in her darker sound of her first album, with a wide variety of sound, and her lower sultry voice. That’s literally how it works every artist goes through this process but that doesn’t mean they’re a flop cause let’s be real they sold more than their first releases. Also Sour was a huge success but having several hits on one album can backfire for most. Guts is also a successful album with more balanced success. Point is simply because your second release isn’t as high as your first doesn’t mean it didn’t do well commercially.

    • @kindallnight1615
      @kindallnight1615 2 дня назад +1

      Actually she did tho, she didn’t go to do stadium tours but instead did small venues to build a more intimate atmosphere with her fans. Also her second album was still a successful album despite her first album being such a success. It’s people who expected something culturally significant to occur twice. And simply not hearing about her or her tour doesn’t means she isn’t still going strong. She’s playing it safer and smarter by starting small instead of going big. Just how people are already calling Chappel a one hit wonder while still only having one album and not releasing another yet,

    • @ellegrey13
      @ellegrey13 2 дня назад

      @@beautyholic5592 Purely music wise, with numbers not lying, what is fundamentally better for an artist isn't only its first week's success of an album but its longevity. Let's compare if it isn't clear enough for you. Sour is CURRENTLY the most streamed spotify album by a female artist. Guts is at number 49 with 4.34 billion streams, right below it is Short and Sweet a recently released album already catching up to it(no I am not getting into the drama train about these two before you think I do, these are numbers that are being compared). Sour has 13.66 billion in comparison. Let that sink in. Don't you think Guts should have already caught up by now and surpassed her Sour album or at least be closer than only 4 billion streams by now to consider it more successful than her first release? That's just streams wise, don't get me started on the sales part. Guts has recently just surpassed 900k pure sales while Sour has surpassed 1.7 million, more than twice surpassing it. Touring? I think she's touring arenas not stadiums ....and if you don't know Arenas are smaller than stadiums but hey, that's the one thing I think she did good for her Guts album, starting small until she has enough popularity to sell stadiums, and no she cannot sell out stadiums yet with just 2 albums in her music career or the security of a huge crowd that demand stadiums in her fandom no matter what her record may be putting out on how humble she is to start with arenas eventhough she can sell stadiums no ma'am that's not how it works, you need more years to even think about stadium touring. So here you go love, came out of my bubble to ACTUALLY do my research on Olivia Rodrigo for you. Do not come to war without facts so here are mine but go off in your idolized Olivia Rodrigo's rant for all you want, I prefer to actually sound educated than ignorant and spitting insults when you've got nothing to back you up but your own livie "I come from X and Olivia is my life" opinion.

    Dua Lipa is talented undoubtedly. But her songs were fantastic before than her new album. Her song in "Barbie" was wonderful as well. She improved her stage presence, dancing skill, appearance everything so much after getting criticism. She is not that type of arrogant celebrity who "don't give a damn about people's opinion" That's why I appreciate her. She will improve her songs eventually hopefully. But I've seen comments like "she is not interesting" what makes an Artist interesting? Their personal life drama? Gossip? I can name many singers, they're not actually talented or deserves the hype but they're way too much Famous because of their personal life, everyday gossips overall with their good PR. Best example: Selena Gomez. So what people expect I don't know. Also every artist go throught their "flop" era somehow. It doesn’t really matter. But she is Famous because of her looks or parents or some sort of privilege, that's all bullshit and disrespectful. She is rising pop star. But I guess the way people compared her with Madonna somehow caused this. Like Madonna is a legendary singer, why you need to compare Dua Lipa with her? I've seen people were comparing Millie Bobby Brown with Emma Watson such as "Is Millie will be second Emma Watson?" why she need to be second Emma Watson though? She will be First Millie Bobby Brown, same way Dua Lipa will be First Dua Lipa not second Madonna.
