@DaaaAmmnnn Ballerinas are well known to have to stay under a certain weight to be able to do the things they do. Many do suffer from eating disorders even once they are too old to perform professionally. *Edit: Looks like I need to edit so people understand my comment properly. By saying that ballerinas need to keep under a certain weight to be able to do the "things they do" I was meaning that generally in order for a ballerina to become "successful" in that world, they are expected to keep appearances and to stay underweight. Not that they physically need to be small in order to dance. Generally speaking, anyone can dance at any size with proper training. The difference is that for a ballerina who has spent their entire life training for a professional career, they would obviously feel the need to adhere to the guidelines in order to "make it" and will transform their body however they need to be successful and get the parts they want.
@@DaaaAmmnnn @cherloe please relax, if someone is skinny and work out, the abs/core are going to show up and so is the rib cage. Ballerinas need a lot of core strength and a person can be skinny and healthy you know?

The fact that the female dancer has a navel piercing works so perfectly with her costume One of the most controversial comment section I've ever created with a comment
@@trinitywood08I don't believe that's quite right, a naval piercing isn't exactly cultural. This is the Arabian nights dance in the nutcracker ballet performance, and I believe they took advantage of her belly button piercing to add a bit more pizzazz to her costume. That's my best guess though, don't quote me on it.
BTW, the word you are looking for is "navel" ("naval" means "having to do with the Navy"), not that we didn't all know exactly what you meant. Just thought you might like to know.
This is my dream role...as a solo of course, Not a pa de deux! The original Balanchine film had her as a trapped peacock, and in the midst of the merriment and fun she just CRASHES the party and weeps and is just sad and beautiful and it feels sort of meta ironic and out of place and I absolutely love it 🦚💙
Fun fact: the choreography from that movie (the 1986 one) is actually by Kent Stowell. That production of The Nutcracker was performed at the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle from 1983 to 2014. I lowkey prefer Stowell's choreography to Balanchine's lol
Of course, we all are rightly focused on the lovely and talented dancing. But can we take just a moment to appreciate the fantastic costuming here? Both the man's and the woman's costumes are glorious.
I fully agree. He was also a wonderful dancer and a truly magnificent costumed inspired no doubt by León Bakst, from Ballet Russe 1900. The ballarina danced in front with a simple costume showing her body so very thin I thought she would faint any moment. The Ballet Russe demanded slimness to a degree but not to this degree . They were muscular and graceful .
This is so beautiful! At the same time, though, to see her ribs and spine jutting out like that makes me worried about if she's neglecting herself for the career. I don't know her, though, maybe she prefers that level of thinness. Either way gorgeous woman, gorgeous dance!
30+ dancers usually start to look like that. The subcutaneous fat underneath the skin diminishes with age. It’s no different then the way older joggers tend to look.
I mean to maintain that kind of muscle mass while being thin you do have to eat. It’s incredibly difficult to be muscular without proper nutrition. Especially working out and practicing for hours on end daily.
