Hard Pruning Young Apple Trees

I wasn't real happy with the overall shape and form of my apple trees, so I gave them a hard prune this spring

I've seen that you don't like to prune. Now that the general shape is set I probably won't prune them much. I was looking for a bit more spread on the canopy and less vertical height, so was trying to encourage some strong branching while they are young
