Thank you for posting this video, I am going to attempt my first 1/24 scale plastic model build in many years. I use to build plastic models when I was a teenager, I am 61 now, I have shaky hands and bad eyesight but feel the need to do something with my five-year-old grandson and he has asked me if we could build a model car together. I cannot say no to him. This tutorial has shown me what products to purchase and some very useful steps to take and procedures to use. Wish me luck and God bless.
Pro tip: When spraying over masking, spray with a light coat of clear or the base color (in this case white) to seal the edges and help prevent bleed through.
Great tip! Going to try it on my next build because it ruined my previous build. I still uploaded it though, so other people can learn how NOT to do it😅
I have 17 years old Ferrari F430 kit, untouched and in brand new condition and thanks to you I will able to finish it. I was overwhelmed how many tools and equipment I am missing but you clearly showed you can do it with basic set. I am really grateful, amazing content.

I built the 66 Batmobile with dad and he recently passed away so I bought the 89 Batmobile in honor of him. He did most of the work on the last one so I got to figure out to build it properly

The painting process is simple unless you are like me and buy a white car as your first model and you spray white paint on white plastic, they you cannot see where you sprayed and where you didn't. I'm currently finishing it and the tutorial is one of the most helpful things i ever watched 👍👍

Excellent finished model! Question... what's the purpose of clear coat? You're wet sanding and polishing. Wouldn't you get the same finish with bare paint?
Hey man, bare paint has no protection and normally its semi gloss or flat finish..so to achieved the shinny and glossy paint, u must spray clear coat and this will protect and bring out the true colours of the paint😁
If you're using a a single stage paint yes you can polish it to a semi gloss finish, but you're not going to get the wet glass polish using single stage. For the best finish use base coat and clear it like he does in the video. Also a good alternative to a paint booth since most people don't have one, is wetting down you shower(important to wet all the walls and floor to not get overspray) and turn on your exhaust fan. Just to add to the already excellent video.
Awesome job. Alot of patience on that body work!👍🏻. A trick ive used is after ive sprayed the body i place it under a box so no dirt dust etc can land on the wet paint and ruin ur hard work!

@@JHHobby thanks. I've bought my first airbrush and a some cheap-ish model (Italeri M-Benz). Really going to try to finally achieve a good finish on a car model.
@@JHHobby sorry, one more question :) I do not feel I am ready to mess with a bleach to strip chrome and re-paint with some cool (and expensive) thing like Alclad. Is it a good idea to use out-of-the-box chrome parts and just give them a 'tint' with something very very thin? (like a wash but covering the whole part. I think it is properly called 'filter')
Been wanting to get into the hobby for years. Today I stumbled across this little roadside yard sale and I found a brand new Aoshima Mercedes SL65G Black series for 5 bucks. Looks like a tough first build but I’m going to try it. Does anyone know about this particular model? Thanks again, looking forward to joining the fun.
I want to get into kit building. But I’m afraid i wont be able to complete it fully. I don’t have a big knowledge of car parts and where they should be. Do the instructions tell you that you should paint the things in the wheels red? Or was that on your own. I just need to know if the instructions are easy to read and go completely step by step.
I have this model car and the mold is like a grey it looks pretty good was just going to leave it and put some clear coat on it is that not recommended or have you ever not painted a car
hmm..never try that before haha..but bare plastic without sanding it the paint wont stick and will cause peel off, its best to spray a paint on it to be safe than sorry haha

Hi, I am interested in trying out model cars as a hobby. Approximately how much money will I spend on the tools and accessories (paint, glue, etc.) to get started on a beginner level car? Can these all be purchased at a hobby shop or arts and crafts store? Thank you
Hi, there are a huge variations of tools you can get, some can cost really cheap and some cost alot! So it depends on what you need or can find. For me basic tools like cutter and knife is a must, some basic spray paints and you're ready to go..then slowly build up the progress for more details😄
All your tutorials gave me a lot of information for my next kit(s) I want to build. I have been building kits since a few years. But there is a real challenge with the next kit I want to build. For the very first time I want/have to use an air brush. Is it possible for you to make a tutorial about how to use an air brush?
Glad to hear that! 😃😃 airbrush is abit hard to teach..different pump and different airbrush need different ways to spray😅 abit complicated...but my suggestions is try and spray on something else 1st until you're comfortable with it😁 try on small parts 1st..if everything goes smoothly then u can spray the main body😁
The Mr super clear gloss is sold out absolutely everywhere. I can get the Mr super clear gloss UV cut though. Would it look the same? What’s the difference between the two?
Thanks for this video. Very informative and useful for someone like me who wants to get into the hobby. But I have to ask, the panel lines in some of the pictures are thinner. Did you use alcohol or anything of that sort to thin it out?
Great tutorial. Especially using spraycans. You can get get nice results. Patience is key, thin layers. Contrast with the black panelliner is a bit much on the white imo. Do you have experience with a grey panelliner? Just starting building again and have to buy some basic stuff.

Also there is some kind of liquid to use after you put on decals, to make them fit in all lines better, does that leave any residue or no?
Hi, bro. That Scotch Brite pad is the one for using dishwashes like pots and pans?
It's almost the same thing but its not the type for washing dish😂 not sure it can be use or not😅
Do you have a video on re-painting a model car another color? What Gold would you recommend for old muscle cars
Hmm im not too sure because its all down to own preference😅
Thank you for this video, ive always been interested in model cars but never really the time, im having shoulder surgery end of month so i decided to buy 3 model cars and a model RC car, with all the materials it gets a little pricey, especially not knowing if i should Spray everything or paint everything but A combination of both does seem best. Thank you again for this video I watched multiple times Now its time to go build one of mine and refer back to this video when needed lol
Hi, its good to see new builders joining the hobby! 😄😄 welcome on board 😄😄
Do you usually only clean the body with degreaser or every painted part of the car?
Mostly i do it on the big parts and expecially before clear coat..other small parts u can skip it😁
Are you using a top coat or clear coat? Or both. Can you the exact clear coat or top coat?
How do you glue painted parts? Thanks for the awesome tutorial!
Hey, for painted parts i normally use thick glue like the UHU glue but its more tricky to apply.
Thank you. I appreciate your time. Very helpful
glad you find it useful! thanks!
It’s easiest way to build a car, it’s a following these steps to build a car and build these parts.
Been wanting to get into the hobby for years. Today I stumbled across this little roadside yard sale and I found a brand new Aoshima Mercedes SL65G Black series for 5 bucks. Looks like a tough first build but I’m going to try it. Does anyone know about this particular model? Thanks again, looking forward to joining the fun.
wow for only 5 bucks?! thats a really good deal for such a great car! haha Glad u got the kit =D
wow what a find
I want to get into kit building. But I’m afraid i wont be able to complete it fully. I don’t have a big knowledge of car parts and where they should be. Do the instructions tell you that you should paint the things in the wheels red? Or was that on your own. I just need to know if the instructions are easy to read and go completely step by step.
Hi, the instructions are good enough actually, go with tamiya brand will be easier, the manual provides more details
@@JHHobby haha ok thanks for the tip/advice I'll paint it lol
Very nice ive always fancied the evo 3 GSR BODY THAN THE NEWER TILL 6 BUT IV HAD ALMOST ALL EXCEPT THE 3 GSR THE ONE UR DOING NOW i definitely have to get one love the raised evolution on sideskirts
haha you should get one to complete your collection =P
I am thinking of working under the pre-painted AE86 Trueno from Aoshima, since i have problems with painting😅
But still the video is good tutorial for every begginer
Hi, I am interested in trying out model cars as a hobby. Approximately how much money will I spend on the tools and accessories (paint, glue, etc.) to get started on a beginner level car? Can these all be purchased at a hobby shop or arts and crafts store? Thank you
Hi, there are a huge variations of tools you can get, some can cost really cheap and some cost alot! So it depends on what you need or can find. For me basic tools like cutter and knife is a must, some basic spray paints and you're ready to go..then slowly build up the progress for more details😄
Saved to my fav list for reference thanks for putting together
Glad to hear that!😁😁
I’m 14 and looking to do some stuff like this can’t wait to try any tips for starting?
hey =) normally i will suggest tamiya kit =D its easier to build
My r33 and my r32 and 300zx came in now i ordered my tools this so helpful man thank you
Great! =D
That carpet trick 🤯 so good
Great job! I watched the video a couple of times!
best video ever buddy respect from greece
Thank you thank you!😄😄
Bro, how to station the car on the display board? The casing is custom made?
Hi..the casing is tamiya casing..and i use sticky tack/blu-tack to stick the car😂
The Mr super clear gloss is sold out absolutely everywhere. I can get the Mr super clear gloss UV cut though. Would it look the same? What’s the difference between the two?
Ahh thats bad😅 yeah its almost the same, cost slightly more only haha
the only thing to make it better would be narration. As is, it is very good for anyone not just new guys
Thanks for this video. Very informative and useful for someone like me who wants to get into the hobby. But I have to ask, the panel lines in some of the pictures are thinner. Did you use alcohol or anything of that sort to thin it out?
Hi, how were you able to stick the tyres to that platform? What did you use? And also what kind of material is that platform?
What do you recommend to prevent the tip of the brush from breaking?
Any tips on how to avoid brush strokes?
Use enamel will have less brush stroke
@@JHHobby How about tamiya acrylics?
Panel lines are bit to harsh for a white car imo, but the shine on that paintjob though! Great job, awesome tips for starters.
Haha yea man, the spray cans paint i used is a little too thick until it covered all the panel line gap (i did not scrub the line deep enough) 😂😅
for race cars with lots of decals, when do you apply the decals? After the base coat and BEFORE the clearcoat correct? thank you
Before the clearcoat is better😁
Awesome! Do you use acrylic for the hand painted parts?
Thanks! It depends on what i have, i use acrylic, and enamel
Great tutorial. Especially using spraycans. You can get get nice results. Patience is key, thin layers.
Contrast with the black panelliner is a bit much on the white imo. Do you have experience with a grey panelliner? Just starting building again and have to buy some basic stuff.
Yea i think i should used grey, bad choice😅
@@JHHobby watched a lot of video's lately and everybody is using the black panelliner. In the end people should use what the like. I was just wondering about it since there is a grey one.
Do you scrape paint from surfaces to be glued ?
Hi, mostly no😁
@@JHHobby so what glue do you use..? 🤔
Great video man and nice evo at the end.. but can I ask you which of those glues are you using on those painted parts? And what kind of glue should I use on chrome parts?
Hi, thanks alot! Normally i will use tamiya cement, if it doesn't work then i will use UHU glue..more thick and strong
@@JHHobby ok, thanks got it, cement glue on painted parts :)
How long is The molotov drytime, When can i Paint over it and glue The lights?
Maybe a few hours😅 not too sure
can i ask what is the purpose of sanding the marked areas in 7:16?
Owh its the mold lines..when they make the plastic body will have this line left over in the process..so best to remove it before paintm
@@JHHobby another question, why did u mark it when u are going to sand it??(really curious btw)
Can we get all this together or does it need too be purchased individually?
Mostly we bought it seperately, but if there is a local hobby store near you, you can get all the tools at once
What sort of camera or gopro do you use for filming?? Loving all the videos
Thanks! Its a fairly simple camera..compact digital casio camera..forgot the model already😅
Hi, please can you tell me. Scratchbuild models that are built of styrene sheet, are they painted in the same way like body of this model car. Thanks in advance.
Yes same😁
@@JHHobby Thank you very much, I really appreciate your answer.
