Painting Dolgoch in 009 for a Narrow Gauge Railway Layout

- Part two is here, and sees the completion of Dolgoch.
The green is craftmaster deep bronze green in case you miss me saying it in the video, its basically identical to the prototype.
The loco uses a Bachmann Rheneas as a base, with a narrow planet conversion kit, and Modelu GWR headlamps and figures.
Cheers

Your method for the lining is absolutely genius, I think I'll have to -steal- adopt it!
Yes please use any techniques as you see fit
Crikey george...that lining...you are a gluten for punishment 😳! But this is your most amazing build yet! Oh and the nail varnish skills are coming on in leaps and bounds too 😂
Thanks! Yes it’s always important for a bit of self care once in a while 😂
It's incredible how you can take a toy and seemingly effortlessly turn it into a proper model. You're one of if not the best railway modeling channel I've found and you deserve more recognition. I'm especially impressed by the lining, you've done it on 009 meanwhile I struggle to do basic boiler bands in O, just amazing.
I appreciate that, Thankyou for commenting
Absolutely stunned at how well that lining trick worked. Also I very much appreciate the cat shots lol. You should give your cat their own cutting mat, see if that helps them leave yours alone lol!
Glad you enjoyed it, yes the cat spends way to much time around my workbench
Got to say, the painting over the decals up to the whit eline is absolutely genius!. Dolgoch is looking fantastic
Yeah it really helps to get a nice clean finish
Such an excellent finish! 🎉
Hmmm…seasonal videos - were there already! 🎅
It will take 4 videos, so I need to start now, not that I feel festive in any way!
@@GWilliamsonModels don’t have time for festive with organising santas visit and work! At least I’ve got Friday mornings to look forward to 👍🏻
On my second watch through on this. Wonderful stuff (happy the cat joined in too). I always enjoy your presentation style-it makes the work attractive and the videos so very enjoyable. Thanks for keeping these coming.

Glad to hear it, and I hope you continue to tune in for the updates
Really nice job, It was really good to see the lining. God bless
Thanks, I get asked a lot how I do lining, so hope this clears it up!
Think the reason that craftmaster deep bronze green looks right is because that’s what’s used on the real thing…😀
I’m sure that’s I originally got it thinking about it
@@GWilliamsonModels should’ve said by the way you’ve done a beautiful job on that, well done!
She looks incredible! I wish I had your skills - modifying and painting a model to look this good at such a small size is no mean feat :))
Thank you so much! Takes a lot of practice
These models look insane good work
Thanks mate!
Looking fab Dolgoch is my favirote locomotive on the TR and one of my favorites ever next to Fenchurch!
Thanks, good choice!
I'm really excited to see your Talyllyn model here's hoping he's in blue!
@@Jude-72 no1 will indeed be in the new blue when I model it!
Hurrah I'm sure he'll look amazing!
Very nice George I'm in a land of confusion myself with regards to the green I have Revell deep bronze green #55 which looks a bit dark or a humbrol olive drab #155 love the way you did the transfers
I’ve used Revell green before now, and thought it didn’t look too bad too be fair
now that right there is a gallant old engine.
Quite right
@@GWilliamsonModelsjust don’t give him a dinosaur to deliver.
I quite littraly could not wait lol love it
That’s what I like to hear ;)
Lovely job George.👍Those lining decals looked bloomin fiddly.
Thanks, yes they are, takes a huge amount of time to get it done, but I think it’s worth it
Super job on the lining.
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the way you used the transfers to provide an edge for the lining. Plus top tip on how to achieve the rounded corners.
Thanks so much!
Another great video, superb work on the lining. For boiler bands have you tried painting masking tape and then cutting into boiler band widths and applying. I used this method on a 7mm kit and once the varnishes are applied it held nicely. Also Copydex is a good alternative to Maskol, I find it peels off better and of course you have a glue and masking liquid in the same pot 😊 Also I now stick my footplate crews to a very thin and small piece of clear plasticard before sticking them in the cab, you can't see it once they are in the cab and it is a damned sight easier gluing them to the footplate floor.
I haven’t seen it done like that before, but it definitely sounds easier! I’ll consider that again in the future, thanks!
I like your lining technique. Now I’m torn between adopting it for when I do my own conversion or matching my existing Talyllyn.
The reason I do it like this, and not use something like the available sets from ‘light railway stores’, is so I can match other engines to the style. If I was you, I’d match your existing stock..or re-line those to match the new technique 😂
Your figures are great. I've always looked at model railway figures and wondered "Why not paint them like wargame figures so they look nice?" But just by adding a wash they go from flat plastic to small people.
I agree, that’s the angle that I take here, more war gaming techniques on a railway landscape. Seems bizarre that people don’t combine them more often
Looks amazing! Idk maybe my personal preference is I prefer the gloss to the satin finish, as with most real Locomotives they are quite glossy (apart from the smokebox) where you can see reflections
The issue is that gloss doesn’t scale down shiny, that’s the angle I’m coming from. But each to their own mate,if you’re happy, then that’s the main thing
@@GWilliamsonModels ah I see, exactly and although that is my personal preference yours is better than anything I have ever done and looks brilliant
Great job and it kinda looks like smudger from thomas
Yes well smudger is based on no2 so that makes sense
I find using a little teck deck tool can remove the pins holding the rods on
Great tip, I’ll try and get one, thanks
well I've gone for Railmatch 630 SR LIGHT OLIVE
Hope it looks good
Would you ever take commissions?
I used to do commissions full time, and may take some on over summer, but I’m not sure yet
train pun alert
Always
You should try warhammer its better than trains lol
