What a great video of an area that I'm interested in.
Lovely footage and a great narrative with very interesting facts.
Thanks very much for that 😀👍

I spent my summer holidays on a farm near Newcastleton when I was a child. A highlight was always visiting Hermitage Castle, where my brothers and I built dams in the burn. Thank you for taking me back to those days, and for educating me about Riccarton, which I didn't know about then. I do remember the farmer talking about the protests in Necastleton when the Waverley Line closed, with people lying on the tracks in front of the last train out of the town. Your drone footage is exquisite, BTW.

Isn't it just great when a modern video takes you back to your childhood, with fond memories 🙂
This is an area that I visit a few times each year, walking and cycling, and I'd love to go back to 'those days' when life was much less busy.

Is the route from Carlisle walkable? I only found out about Riccarton Junction this week. Would love to walk some of it but don't know wherre to start. The viaduct looks like it has gates at either end but you were on it. Easy access?

Some small sections are walkable. A couple of short sections just north of Carlisle, the longer part here around Riccarton junction to the north and south and also towards Kielder.
Shankend you can approach from the farm track that loops round to the north. There is a sign stating it's not a public way, and you can't access the other end as it's a private house.
A shame as I think it would make an amazing long distance trail through a beautiful landscape 🤩
