Hermitage Castle and Smailholm Tower, two absolute must-sees by visitors, IMHO. The best part of The Borders for us is the people. Absolutely lovely hospitable folk. I hope to make the Reiver's Festival again next year.
Thank you Donald, it takes a lot of time to make my videos and they don’t get many views, so your comment is valued and appreciated, I’m glad you liked it
Thank you so much for the comment, I'm glad you liked it. Please check out my 'Find Your Happy' video in which I travel across Rannoch Moor into Glen Coe - you might like the drone footage on that one
Hope to drop into Smailholm next Spring Travelled up there for 25 years each April passing through Langholm to stay in Kelso with its cobbled town square 4 and salmon fish on the Tweed at Carham where .England is one bank Scotland the other. Can see the Eildon hills upstream when the weather is fine....or not when there is rain...or ocassionally sleet. The coast at St Abbs is a fine experience and walk ...and yes the Eildons above Melrose and its ancient abbey are a fine walk and view. Aiming to be back at Coldstream next Spring
The big arch possibly had a wooden structure in or on it and one or two floors or platforms - not sure what tactical reason explains this weak spot but wooden Add ons were common
I think it is quite amusing and astonishing how Americans have become so taken with Scotland when it is by far the least attractive part of the main English island. There are thousands of places throughout England that are far more aesthetically, beautiful, both in terms of nature and in terms of historic structures set in landscapes. One never hears of Americans praising the beauty of Wales yet it is a region with far more beautiful forests, mountains, seascapes, and historic buildings And there are tens of thousands of places throughout the United States that are more beautiful. I say this, not as an Internet know-it-all, but as someone who has lived for a number of years in the UK and visited nearly all of the states.
Thanks for your comment. As you are the second person to comment on the music, I’m interested to know which bit in particular? The clashing and bold part as the drone circles Hermitage Castle? I was trying to create an air of power, dread and terror, something to match the imposing and intimidating structure, however I accept it’s open to interpretation. Your feedback is welcome, and helps me develop as a videographer 😊
Hermitage Castle was the stronghold of the Armstrong family. It is not welcoming and the false entries could be death traps as you surmise. It lies about 20 miles from Hawick on the (edge) of “debatable lands” where the rule of the kings of both England and Scotland held limited sway. Full of castles and Abbeys it is lovely country and lovely folk, just don’t get in the wrong side of them! Try going to the 500 year old Ba game in Jedburgh, the common ridings in Hawick or the flag castings in Selkirkfor a taste of the tradition!
@@oldmanriver3066 very cool thanks for the info. I have never been outside of my state much less the country though and will probably never be able to travel or see the world. have been very sick most my life and poor as well but always wanted to visit Europe !!

It's a beautiful area, enjoy your visit when you go, there's lots to see and do
This video was an amazing musical and visual experience. Put in both earbuds and give yourself a treat.
Was this once a castle of two halves with what we see today, only one half of it?
I’m sure Mary Queen of Scots stayed here
From what I understand, she rode across the moors to meet her lover here, and became gravely ill as a result
Salvaje pero increiblemente encantador

My ancestors home 🏡
Mine were from the neighborhood of the Rule Water. Hi, cousin!
Very interesting thanks my friend.

Nice but nobody will ever see the Borders from up high.
Great footage, crap music.

@@4thdimensionfilms882 hermitage castle music hit the spot given it is a dark and foreboding place
Thousands of years of deforestation have well and truly taken its toll on the landscape. The landscape is a thoroughly degraded one.
what is with the giant arch that isn't a gatehouse? is a a death trap with just doors on the side of the insides?
It's a pretty intimidating building!
