Hi Cyril, this is fantastic, I have just decided to renovate my 63 AC30 although fortunately it's in a much better state of repair. The cabinet will be the main thing as I'm not impressed with the previous recover and the guy has fitted the wrong vents so a little cabinet repair will be required but this video is definitely an inspiration, many thanks

Once you’ve determined the condition I would have blown the chassis out with compressed air, bathed the chassis with simple green and let it soak for an hour. Then I’d used distilled water and high pressure washing off the simple green removing all dirt and grime, once clean use compressed air and blow out all water. Once you get as much water as possible I’d place the unit in my oven at about160 degrees for 24 hours to assure any moisture is out of coils and transformers. At that point hit all pots with tuner cleaner, begin chassis restoration with an absolutely clean chassis..

Original hasn't got a standby switch, my CC2X hasn't either! It does have a "destroy your rectifier tube" switch. I prefer not to use it all that much. :)

On the case of the output transformer, I would have re-wound the original personally..

I have been gifted an AC30H prototype in crusty condition, what should I do with it. It looks totally original.

CYRIL RYAN, Why does the AC ripple "INCREASE" when the B+ voltage is increased or when the Power tubes draw more current from the power supply? I would think the AC ripple would decrease not increase it doesn't make sense can you explain it?

Hi, Do you have any knowledge of what type of reverb tank was fitted into the Birch-Stolec 1970 model, please? It looks like the amp has never been fitted with a reverb tank but is wired for one. It must be a high impedance reverb as its driven direct from the anode of an ECC83 via a 2n2 cap.
Any information you may have will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Geoff

Hi, hoping either yourself or the community here can help me please. I have just aquired an old AC30 chassis (an obscure model I think it's the AC30TBR 1007 model, from 1989 Rose Morris period) but I need to get speakers for it. Now the schematic I found which I think is correct suggests the output transformer accepts either 4 or 8 ohm impedance speaker load. However this goes against every other AC30 I have seen which would be either 8 or 16 ohm load. I am wondering if anyone (or yourselves) can tell me if it is safe to put a 16 ohm speaker load as normal with AC30) on such an O/T - or is there a way to tell from the transformer (no label) or from the wiring etc if I can tell what the actual output impedance is? Any help or advice appreciated, thanks!!

Does anybody can ask on my question?
if I will install Celestion Blue Alnico into ac30cc2 instead of regular vox speakers, will it give me 100% the same sound like on ac30cc2x or ac30c2x ?

Hi. Sorry, I'm sure you don't care anymore, but YES IT WILL. I did just that many years ago. A decade now..
I bought a CC2 and some UK Alnico Blue speaker and put them in it. A decade of gigging later, it is still my #1 amp.
It absolutely destroys all challengers tbh. The only amp I've heard that made me even consider a change was a 59 Bassman ..

Hi. Thanks for your enquiry. Unfortunately Cyril now lives in the Barbados. We don't have a number for him. Tanks.

Probably water damaged before they bought it.....AC30's are always worth restoring.

@@bigcatdaddy76016 Yessir. I'd be very happy to own this amp, even before restoration.

Hi I'm trying to repair a AC30 reissue from a friend. It's the CC1 from 2000's. At first sight looks good: Power Led is getting current, Standby Led is not. All tubes are glowing (EL84s good, preamp 12AX7s slight glowing, GZ34 glowing). No burnt stuff on boards. Here's what I've done so far:
1º I checked AC input fuse, standby fuse, 2 fuses on power transformer secondary and a resistor fuse. All OK.
2º Plugged off all tubes. I did continuity tests on them based on their datasheets, they all seem good.
3º Checked voltages on secondary: 356Vac (pin6 rectifier tube input to trafo sec central tap), 293Vac (pin4 rec tube input to trafo sec central tap), 5.9Vac, 6.45Vac, 24.9Vac.
4º Plugged on the GZ34. Checked voltage on output (pins 2 to 8). Getting no DC rectified voltage and 5Vac.Could it be the GZ34 the one that it's broken, even glowing and with the continuity test OK? Appearance looks good, it glows bright. If I shake it I get a small clinging.
I'd rather not spend money stupidly since I have no idea how to fix amps. I've got basic electronic knowledge but I'm a total newbie on this stuff.
    I appreciate every help :)

I'm seeing now it's not a GZ34, It's a Sovtek 5AR4 SOV. Couldn't see it properly because the ink is almost faded but watching at the parts list it makes perfect sense

Pretty interesting video. Background music is totally unnecessary which ironically features a decidedly unremarkable guitar tone and forgettable playing.
