I think people undervalue a true consumers point of view. You do ramble, but the charm in it all is you truly appear to be genuine - which in this 'look at me, look what i have' world we live in, is quite refreshing.

I agree 100%. I watched a bunch of tech reviews on this thing. They were basically just reading off the specs. Karin's review is more relatable from a use perspective, which is much more useful.

Agreed. I prefer reviews like this that aren't scripted and techy, because I know that I'm getting an unfiltered, honest review. Rambling certainly helped me to decide on an eReader and case for my son.

Thanks a lot for the great review Karin. Here is my solution to the cover: my mom is a tailor. I asked her to sew a cover for my clara hd. The cover is soft inside and tough outside (several layers of various fabrics. This is a good solution to accidental damage like you described in your son's case. The advantage is that there is nothing that makes the reader heavier while reading. Moreover, it costs almost zero (except four my moms time and electricity sewing machine uses). The disadvantage is that you should always put it back as soon as you finish reading, and there is no built-in stand. However, you can buy 1$ wooden stands to fix that issue.

Hi Karin! I bought the libra after watching your video and I simply love it.
It's my first e-reader and I wasn't sure about it at the beginning because I was afraid about the screen dimension being smaller than a regular book. I was wrong.
I really enjoy reading on this device and the page turner button are so useful especially when you are on a bus or when you read on bed on one side. I've noticed the edge shadow as you said but it's not annoying at all! You can barely notice it and actually you forget about it pretty soon.
I've also bought the sleep cover too and I like it. It's a little pricey maybe but it is worth the money. I like reading while I have my breakfast or lunch and it's so comfortable reading in a stand position. Mine is light gray, which is another option, at least in Italy where I live.
Thank you again for your contents! I'm sure it will be useful also for others watching a real-life no-scripted and spontaneous review. Just like you :)

This review is now old but I watched it buying my unit and the cover and I can say that it is the best review out there. No bullshit, only valuable and honest/true information. I come back to this review because, I now, after a year have my expensive cover in duct tape because it's falling apart and the thing was and still is ghastly overpriced.
Thank you for great informative content!

You should consider a sleeve. That’s what I use. It puts it into sleep mode as well. Not as protective as a hard shell but I just carry it in my purse and when I read I don’t have the heavy case on.

Hey Karin, I bought my Libra during Black Friday and so far I'm loving it! Thank you for the reviews of the device and the cover, it was really helpful to have your impressions. I've opted not to buy the cover because my backpack has a dedicated pocket for my ereader, let's hope I don't end up regretting it.

I paid 45$ I am in Canada. You can get the basic sleepcover for Kobo Libra 2 for 35$ (it doesn't fold) I love the fact that it folds...very handy when you read and want to take notes. I bought the white Libra, it's more creamy white, very pretty and I bought a lavender colour sleepcover...love it!

I would be very happy for you to make more e-reader reviews. You are one of the best, helped by the fact that you are passionate about the technology and the reading experience. You have alerted me to PWM but which is a minefield to get proper information on. It is suggested that you may have been misled by one of the leading retailers. Not good and not your fault.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Kobo Libra! My very first reader was a Kobo, in 2011. I then moved to the paperwhite 2 in 2014 and using it since. I have been really considering upgrading and going back to Kobo, possibly getting the Libra. Just as an FYI, for a case (my phone and paperwhite) I purchased zippered slip cases that are padded. VERY inexpensive and SO durable. I keep my phone zip case right in my purse so when I leave, I just put my phone inside...don't even zip it...its great. I have the same style for my paperwhite, only larger, and just put it in there when I leave the house. I like holding the reader without a case. I had one for years, but i found it annoying.
My only concern about making the switch is getting some of my books from kindle over to Kobo. I have not read enough info on that to see how easy it is.
    🙂

I bought a cover for mine identical to yours with a design on it for...$14.00 US Dollars. (Amazon)
I have a Nook, Kindle and a Kobo.....my favorite overall? My Nook...but this is a close, close second...and you are right the Library software makes borrowing and reading books from the library a cinch.

The good news is that - a year on from this - what look to be exact copies of these covers are available on E Bay for £8.99 - and in a wide range of colours including a gorgeous acid green that should look great with the white Kobo Libra!!
Another option might be a well padded sleeve type cover - as long as it is the right size for the device to fit snuggly into it should provide good protection - you could even make one!!

Hi Karin. I just got the Libre and the screen seems like it's blue towards the buttons side and orange on the other side rather than a shadow like a book! Not sure I can get used to that! Not sure about yours but mine is very noticeable. I may have to take it back which is a shame because I really like it. Thanks for the review!

Looks slick. I love my Nook Glowlight which shares with its Simple Touch roots. I was considering getting a Glowlight Plus for its larger screen but apparently there are some hardware problems with the larger model. I thought the libra might be a way to go bigger than 6” but still keep a small form factor. But I’m still supper happy with the current 6” Nook Glowlight. Even my simple touch still lives on. I guess I’ll wait for color. Otherwise all I want is a super light and bright ereader with a great screen.

Recommend Gecko covers, they are soft and cost $19 in my country. They are not high quality, the cardboard wears through fake leather, but at $19 it's much cheaper to replace than official $50 covers which are even worse quality.

When I first watched your video a few days ago, I was pleasantly surprised because I was also reading the same book! I have finished the book since then.
I understand what you mean about the light bleeding out through the screen and it's truly annoying and distracting. Yesterday, I put my Kindle Paperwhite in my bag, inside a very thin and unpadded pouch. I ordered a cover for it but it was still on the way after about a couple of weeks. When I took it out from the pouch, I noticed a scratch, with light bleeding through it. My heart literally sank. And what's ironic is that my cover arrived just today, a full day after I damaged my screen. I'm very distracted by that small scratch that I'm thinking of retiring my Kindle and replacing it with a new one.

I'm sorry to hear that. Well, reading is essential to my daily life. And a tool that works well is essential to that. If my e-reader was to give me issues, I would replace it for sure. It's one of the things I can't live without. Wishing you the best.

I'm really tired of electronics cases being so ridiculously expensive. The materials get cheaper every year and the cost just goes up and up.
