Ohh PawPaw- that just brought back a memory to me. When I was little and watch my grandma make bread and biscuits she would get the bacon grease tin out from the over the pilot light on the stove and brush the grease over the top of the bread and biscuits before putting them in the oven. I remember my mama making biscuits so well.she put her dry ingredients in a bowl, then made an indention in the middle of the bowl then she would put her shortening ( lard) a little handful in there. She would hand mix the lard into the dry mixture, then add buttermilk and mix til it suited her, I guess. She’d grease her pan and hand roll her biscuits into shape. Seemed she knew just how much she needed for each biscuit. She’d place them in the pan, sides touching and bake them until they were “ just right.” Bet your mom did it this way, too. Awwww Paw Paw… I remember when I was very young 5 or 6 going down to my Dad’s family’s property in Elkin’s West Virginia to his Aunt Emma’s. It was literally a shack in a holler, but the most homey! She cooked everything on a wood burning stove and just the love that came from her was amazing! I’m 60 years old and this video brought me right back! Especially the bacon grease & NEVER filtered/strained. I still cook with that same today. Thank you for the reminder of the memories ❤️😊

You're correct pawpaw... when u start biscuits on that low heat they don't rise properly. Always put your biscuits in a 500° oven with them touching each other. You will get tall tender biscuits 😋

Good morning, PawPaw ❤! The breakfast looked delicious. You're too funny, PawPaw. We all make mistakes in the kitchen. 😊 LOL - I had no idea those meat patties are called sausages 😂. We make them back home too, but we call them chiftele or parjoale. I believe the fire was a bit too weak for the stove to heat up. Regardless, I'm sure nothing can replace the taste of food cooked on a firewood stove. Have a wonderful day! ❤
Morning PawPaw , I made it on time this morning 🤣🤣!! I’m glad your sausage was good , I’m ok with hot sausage I love heat in my food spicy I guess we call it ! Sorry about the flour mix up , and yes I’m sure when it’s cold out side with your kitchen being open you’ll have to start the fire in the stove a few minutes ahead of starting to cook anything to let the oven in fact the whole stove have time to heat up! But it’s a learning curve since your just getting started on learning what is needed in preparation on surrounding conditions for cooking on the little stove ! When you think about it the stove being cast iron the whole stove has to heat up to perform correctly , which will all center around the weather conditions and the foods your cooking , I can see where in the cold weather with your little kitchen being open to the cold it would probably take all day to cook a pot of beans in your cast iron Dutch oven pot on top of the stove , but they would sure be delicious at the end of the day with a skillet of cornbread and some chopped onion and hot pepper vinegar on those beans , now that’s my kind of meal ! PawPaw my momma use to ( and I still do today) momma would split open her leftover biscuits and beat up a couple of eggs and dip the biscuit halves in the beaten eggs and fry them up in a little grease until lightly brown and drain on paper towel or a brown bag , and on the last biscuit she would just pour the leftover egg over biscuit so as not to waste anything ! She also would split open left over cornbread wedges and fry it up in a little grease until browned on both sides , it’s delicious crispy on outside and soft. Inside we would eat it with our meal , I still make both of these today and enjoy them very much ! Maybe you might want to try them both and see if you enjoy them also , I just thought I’d share these two ways we both saved food and and turned them into a different taste ! We called the😮 biscuits “ egged biscuits “ and the cornbread just “ fried cornbread” we enjoyed both just as cooked and with jam or jelly on them and the fried cornbread also taste good with a little ketchup on it sounds weird but taste good , if you choose to try with the ketchup just put a drop on a bite to make sure you like it so you don’t mess up the whole piece , oh and the fried cornbread only works with homemade cornmeal and flour cornbread it won’t work with jiffy cornbread because the jiffy cornbread is to soft and absorbs the grease and doesn’t taste good , I’ve tried it ! PawPaw you know you could probably bake your biscuits in the cast iron piece you seasoned up with the separated round cups that are connected together in a circle , it’s just a thought that might work ! Sometimes, baking powder can fail. Use your sourdough in your Biscuits, Pawpaw. Self rising flour? I will remember that as well Pawpaw. I will say nothing, Biscuits are finicky I know first hand. It depends on many factors. The environment temp and humidity around you also. Yours was the chilly kitchen. 😁😊❤

I was a Sr in high school and my parents had a wood cook stove mom cooked in. The stove has to get hit where your oven is around 500 degrees then pop your bread into it. Homemade sausage is the best. I’m like Gigi I don’t care much for hot sausage. I love cooking in a wood stove what memories it brings back!

Good Morning Paw Paw. Homemade bisquits always taste good. Try some with buttermilk, those are delicious. Don't be embarrassed, they are still tasty. Label your flour containers so you Can see which one you are using each time.
A Pawpaw I made that same mistake plenty of times with the flour lol. You’re not alone I bet many others also did it. I had a southern stepmother, adopt me how to make biscuits, and she always warned me to check my flour!! but you are right karma is real and it does come back to bite you. Thanks for the good video. PawPaw, your breakfast looks delicious - and your secret is safe with me. I watch a lady from Alabama (on youtube) make biscuits. I haven't made any yet but she always uses self-rising White Lily flour which she says is extra fine, an egg-sized clump of Crisco, and buttermilk to moisten. I think she said the buttermilk makes the biscuits tender. She really emphasizes to bake them in a HOT oven -- 500 degrees. It makes the biscuits rise quickly and they come out super moist, tender, and fluffy. Maybe your oven wasn't hot enough. Fire it up. We love you!
Paw Paw mess ups are just building blocks but as one cook to another your never supposed to tell what you messed up on cause chances are most people won't even notice your mess up and if by chance they do see your mess up your supposed to play it off as that's what you meant to do all along😂😂😂😂😂😂😂..what they don't know won't hurt them😂😂😂 I think my paw paw did a great job yes sir!!!!your the best paw paw I love you❤❤❤

Hey Paw Paw! I looked up online and it says not to put baking powder in self rising flour because it already has it in the flour. But all-purpose flour you add it. You may know that already but I didn’t. I’ve always used all-purpose flour. I guess that tells you I’m just an okay cook even at 70 years old. 😂😂 I do enjoy watching you cook. Have a wonderful day!

You're correct pawpaw... when u start biscuits on that low heat they don't rise properly. Always put your biscuits in a 500° oven with them touching each other. You will get tall tender biscuits 😋

Good morning, PawPaw ❤! The breakfast looked delicious. You're too funny, PawPaw. We all make mistakes in the kitchen. 😊 LOL - I had no idea those meat patties are called sausages 😂. We make them back home too, but we call them chiftele or parjoale. I believe the fire was a bit too weak for the stove to heat up. Regardless, I'm sure nothing can replace the taste of food cooked on a firewood stove. Have a wonderful day! ❤

Morning PawPaw , I made it on time this morning 🤣🤣!! I’m glad your sausage was good , I’m ok with hot sausage I love heat in my food spicy I guess we call it ! Sorry about the flour mix up , and yes I’m sure when it’s cold out side with your kitchen being open you’ll have to start the fire in the stove a few minutes ahead of starting to cook anything to let the oven in fact the whole stove have time to heat up! But it’s a learning curve since your just getting started on learning what is needed in preparation on surrounding conditions for cooking on the little stove ! When you think about it the stove being cast iron the whole stove has to heat up to perform correctly , which will all center around the weather conditions and the foods your cooking , I can see where in the cold weather with your little kitchen being open to the cold it would probably take all day to cook a pot of beans in your cast iron Dutch oven pot on top of the stove , but they would sure be delicious at the end of the day with a skillet of cornbread and some chopped onion and hot pepper vinegar on those beans , now that’s my kind of meal ! PawPaw my momma use to ( and I still do today) momma would split open her leftover biscuits and beat up a couple of eggs and dip the biscuit halves in the beaten eggs and fry them up in a little grease until lightly brown and drain on paper towel or a brown bag , and on the last biscuit she would just pour the leftover egg over biscuit so as not to waste anything ! She also would split open left over cornbread wedges and fry it up in a little grease until browned on both sides , it’s delicious crispy on outside and soft. Inside we would eat it with our meal , I still make both of these today and enjoy them very much ! Maybe you might want to try them both and see if you enjoy them also , I just thought I’d share these two ways we both saved food and and turned them into a different taste ! We called the😮 biscuits “ egged biscuits “ and the cornbread just “ fried cornbread” we enjoyed both just as cooked and with jam or jelly on them and the fried cornbread also taste good with a little ketchup on it sounds weird but taste good , if you choose to try with the ketchup just put a drop on a bite to make sure you like it so you don’t mess up the whole piece , oh and the fried cornbread only works with homemade cornmeal and flour cornbread it won’t work with jiffy cornbread because the jiffy cornbread is to soft and absorbs the grease and doesn’t taste good , I’ve tried it ! PawPaw you know you could probably bake your biscuits in the cast iron piece you seasoned up with the separated round cups that are connected together in a circle , it’s just a thought that might work ! I was a Sr in high school and my parents had a wood cook stove mom cooked in. The stove has to get hit where your oven is around 500 degrees then pop your bread into it. Homemade sausage is the best. I’m like Gigi I don’t care much for hot sausage. I love cooking in a wood stove what memories it brings back!

Good Morning Paw Paw. Homemade bisquits always taste good. Try some with buttermilk, those are delicious. Don't be embarrassed, they are still tasty. Label your flour containers so you Can see which one you are using each time.

A Pawpaw I made that same mistake plenty of times with the flour lol. You’re not alone I bet many others also did it. I had a southern stepmother, adopt me how to make biscuits, and she always warned me to check my flour!! but you are right karma is real and it does come back to bite you. Thanks for the good video. PawPaw, your breakfast looks delicious - and your secret is safe with me. I watch a lady from Alabama (on youtube) make biscuits. I haven't made any yet but she always uses self-rising White Lily flour which she says is extra fine, an egg-sized clump of Crisco, and buttermilk to moisten. I think she said the buttermilk makes the biscuits tender. She really emphasizes to bake them in a HOT oven -- 500 degrees. It makes the biscuits rise quickly and they come out super moist, tender, and fluffy. Maybe your oven wasn't hot enough. Fire it up. We love you!

Hey Paw Paw! I looked up online and it says not to put baking powder in self rising flour because it already has it in the flour. But all-purpose flour you add it. You may know that already but I didn’t. I’ve always used all-purpose flour. I guess that tells you I’m just an okay cook even at 70 years old. 😂😂 I do enjoy watching you cook. Have a wonderful day!
