Thank you for your excellent Menox video. My wife has used this control for many years and loves it, both because it works so well, integrates with the car design, and doesn't feel like a disability accessory. Like yours, our knob broke after many years of use, and we replaced it with another we found on eBay. You're shift buttons look like a significant improvement on the original. All the best!
Your videos are possibly the most informative and helpful ones i've found. Especially wish showing use and how they work when driving!! Thank you for posting them
+Cassie Ottery Glad to hear you will be mobile soon! It was a huge boost for me feeling like I was getting my independence back. The fact that you have 2 kids you really NEED to be able to get around. Glad you like the vids and find them helpful!
Thanks. I just bought a second hand set of menox controls for fitment to a camper van project. Good to see an actual user's experience with them. I noticed the hand control knob is cracking on mine as well but it comes with a steering wheel spinner with the same knob which I may transplant for a while. Very informative video.
Looking to replace my Menox Grip handle as well, mine finally broke into two pieces after 10 years of use. I've been trying to reach the manufacture for a replacement and they told me to contact my local hand control dealer which I did. My local hand control dealer came came back with a cost of $250 I was like whaaaat its plastic! He said that included parts and labor I said oh no labor I'll install it myself which then he told me "we have to install it for safety reasons". I told him no sale that's ridiculous. I'm having a friend see if he can scan my broken pieces and 3D print it. Told him if we get these to work will put them up on eBay for a few bucks. A part like this should not cost $250 that's just a huge rip off. Thank you for sharing this I was thinking of doing what you did but mine has buttons as well but don't trust myself. The 3D model we build, if possible, should be stronger than the original plus we will be able to print it in any color. Will see what happens.
Yea dude that price is just STUPID! You know it’s only because it’s “medical equipment” so they try to rape us on price. I actually have an extra original handle from a separate menox control I bought off eBay if you need it! Just shoot me a message from my Paralyzed Living Facebook page.👍🏼
The Menox control looks pretty good. I use the push pull control (looks like a handlebar and you pull down for gas and push for brake) and it looks like you have an easier time controlling the brake and gas when you have the Menox control. Kinda wish I could get one for my Honda but it seems a bit expensive.
Yes, they are expensive, but worth it. Plus, the way cars are being engineered these days, it seems it may not be long before Menox type controls are necessary rather than optional. Many accelerator pedals don't even use a cable anymore.
I used the electronic control module from a paddle shifter kit and just hooked it up to 2 buttons in the hand control handle instead of paddle shifters. I'm pretty sure the Menox control CAN be set up this way when you buy it though so that's something you may want to check out.
@@ParalyzedLiving Hi Brian, how are you? Very nice! I am about to have an Audi A4 converted for my first car since injury and would love to know more about the shifters on the knob. Kind regards, from, PaulLaw.
Hey man, I was wondering if you could let me know how you managed to get your paddle shifter buttons down to your hand controls? I drive a Subaru wrx and to have the shifters down there would be a game changer!
i just wanna start with your videos are great,i am a very recent t5 complete and i have just started my driving program today and was looking for a better looking handcontroll to get so i dont have a huge ugly lever in my car. I was wondering where you got yours at ? thanks and your videos have helped me do things a little bit differently sense my accident was may 10 of this year and now i have to find a new career sense i was in construction and no longer can do physical labor, i also was avid motorcycle rider and do miss that alot i am working on buliding a 2 wheel bike with handcontrolls and a drop down training wheel system
john McElroy Hi John thanks for the comment! I was also looking for a less ugly hand control at the time I took my driving classes and the instructor suggested these menox controls. I really like that they are out of the way and are much more comfortable to use than any other control I have tried. They can usually be ordered by any mobility company. I paid about $2K for these unfortunately and went through a local mobility dealer. I do suggest picking up some portable hand controls (check my other vids) first though so you can still drive and shop for a good set of permanent controls. I too modded my motorcycle with "landing gear" (check out my older vids) and rode as a para for a couple years. Not to burst your bubble but it wasn't the same post-injury so I sold the bike.
Have you ever had a problem with the button that holds the brakes on? Mine is no longer working. Also do you know how long more or less this type of hand controls last before needing to be replaced?
Yes I had an issue with the button at one time but it was just a bad electrical connection that was able to be fixed. I’ve used these controls for about 11 years so far and I don’t think they “expire” necessarily but the handle wore out after awhile and cracked. You could probably have these issues fixed by a mobility company without getting an entirely new set of controls.
hi blackpearlv6. Good job on your vids man. I applaud your courage. Keep up the good work. You may not realize how beneficial your efforts truly are, but I am telling you they are a blessing to any quad or paraplegic. Having been one myself since 81, I have had to figure out most things for myself. I use the Menox controls myself and have had the same problem with them as you. Both the driving mechanism handle and the spinner for the steering wheel broke. So, am I understanding correctly that your vehicle is a standard shift? or you simply use the buttons you spoke of wiring into the hand controls to shift manually on an automatic?
I love the revised handle - can you provide me with specifics on this conversion? What handle did you buy originally to ensure proper fitment onto the control? I can handle soldering the switches - that's minor stuff, but I do want to do the same to mine as my handle is currently superglued and electrical taped together... clearly the Menox handle design is not robust enough for spirited drivers.
Andria Daniella I agree, the Mexox handle is junk. I am currently using a MOMO leather shift knob because even the one in this video broke. lol Most universal shift knobs should be able to fit the hand control post.
Paralyzed Living I ended up getting a MOMO carbon fiber shift knob for mine - even though my car has tiptronic, it was never wired into the system like yours - so all I had to worry about was the brake switch. Ended up being a lot easier than I expected... and it looks much better.
I suggest you call your local dealer and see if they can get them. The dealer I went through is not listed on their website either but they had no problem getting the controls.
Are you left handed? My hand gears are on the left & im trying to find a better option being that im right handed but i use my left hand for the gears. My gears are up high enough so that i can rest my thumb on the steering & control the lever as well too. I love how paras & quads make a way out of the norm lol
I'd like to get in touch with you somewhere other that RUclips. I'm a T7 paraplegic as of November 30th 2013 and haven't gotten a vehicle yet. Is there any way you know of to get funding to buy a truck? I live down a dirt road and a car would bottom out and be stuck.
Andrew Hunter Hi Andrew, I'm sure you really want to get back to driving. You could try starting a fund raiser using youcaring.com. I'm not really sure about any other programs to fund a truck but try looking on Google to see what you can find. I wouldn't be surprised if there is something to help injured people.
I leave in WA state and I wanna buy one where and how can I get one?? By the way great videos. And thank you so much after watching your videos I got motivated.
hia davids Glad you got motivated! Here is a link to the website. I believe they have dealers listed but feel free to call around in your area to find a company that installs adaptive equipment. They may be able to order these even if they are not listed as a dealer.

Paralyzed Living what's the price on menox hand control and would it fit in a truck
Very envious of your car! I became a paraplegic 7 months ago and about to start looking for a vehicle. I have watched all of your videos. Great job!
Coming to this video late but you should Patent and market your updated control, I wanna be a big rig and your manual controls are the best I’ve seen!

How did you get them to sell to you living in the states. I can't get it
I see Menox only has 2 dealers in the US. You live in Wisconsin? Do you think they will ship or would the automobile have to be present for purchase?

Does Menox make hand controls for 5 speeds?
Morgan Calvi no I don’t believe they do. Would be great though!

You can just buy the hand control and install it in any car with an automatic transmission.
You basically just made carospeed hand controls. Look them up. Ive used a few sets for different cars and they work well
