The American government are concerned about the live debates that take place on Tiktok. Highly educated people with great knowledge telling the truth, uncensored, showing sources and videos that are massively eye opening about global issues. The lives some times have thousands of people in attendance who can all interact with each other, discuss the topic in question, in real time in the chat. Political figures speak without censorship and answer questions directly from the audience of viewers from around the world. It's hugely informative and better than any educational debate you've ever heard. It's gripping, sometimes heart breaking and I've learnt mind blowing facts. Tiktok isn't all banal. That's just what they want you to think.

We don’t need a tik tok ban, we need industry regulations and privacy protection laws. Websites should be able to collect user information, but we need regulations that govern what those companies can do with that information. They should *not* be able to monetize it and sell it. They should not be able to share it with third parties. And if government wants access to it, government needs to have probable cause and appropriate warrants. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED.

Google was fined 50 million euros (about $57 million) by a French regulator for not properly disclosing to users how their data is collected and used for targeted advertising
      April 2, 2024
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Google has agreed to purge billions of records containing personal information collected from more than 136 million people in the U.S. surfing the internet through its Chrome web browser.
The massive housecleaning comes as part of a settlement in a lawsuit accusing the search giant of illegal surveillance.
The Korean units of Google and Apple were fined for alleged violations of laws on location data collection, the telecom regulator said.
Google's Korean unit was ordered to pay 3 million won ($2,180) for allegedly violating a clause of the Act on the Protection and Use of Location Information related to disclosing policies on location data, according to the Korean Communications Commission (KCC).
Apple's Korean unit was also fined 210 million won for allegedly collecting location data without consent, violating the same clause as well as others, the commission said.
In July 2022, Chinese ride-hailing platform Didi Global was slapped with the biggest-ever privacy penalty. China’s Cyberspace Administration issued the fine after determining that the company’s practices violated the country’s network security law, data security law and personal information protection law. The government also fined two individual company leaders about $140,000 each.
In July of 2021, European regulators in Luxembourg fined Amazon Europe a whopping $877m fine for data breaches and failing to comply with general data processing principles under GDPR.
Credit bureau Equifax in 2017 compromised the personal information of some 150 million consumers when it failed to effectively patch a database vulnerability. As a result, the company agreed to pay a $575m fine

MISINFORMATION. It's not a "ban" it's a partial restriction on distribution. The app stores wouldn't provide it but it wouldn't be illegal to have, to use, or to obtain by other means. TikTok website would/could remain. And all this is only if TikTok refuses to come under U.S company's control, thus ensuring that the Chinese government doesn't have sway over TikTok.

So, many Americans wonder: Is hate speech legal?
Contrary to a common misconception, most expression one might identify as “hate speech” is protected by the First Amendment and cannot lawfully be censored, punished, or unduly burdened by the government - including public colleges and universities.

Roughly sixty percent of the company is beneficially owned by global institutional investors such as Carlyle Group, General Atlantic, and Susquehanna International Group. An additional twenty percent of the company is owned by ByteDance employees around the world, including Australians. The remaining twenty percent is owned by the company's founder, who is a private individual and is not part of any state or government entity.
TikTok, which is not available in mainland China, has established Los Angeles and Singapore as headquarters locations to meet its business needs. That is in keeping with ByteDance's approach to aligning business needs to the markets where its services operate. ByteDance does not have a single global headquarters.
ByteDance's board of directors is comprised of five individuals, none of whom is a part of any government or state entity. 3 of the 5 are American. The board includes:
Rubo Liang, ByteDance Chairman and CEO (Singapore-based) • Arthur Dantchik, Susquehanna International Group (U.S.-based). Bill Ford, General Atlantic (U.S.-based). Philippe Laffont, Coatue Management (U.S.-based).
      Neil Shen, Sequoia (Hong Kong-based).
Four out of five of the board's directors represent ByteDance's investors on the board, and Rubo Liang, ByteDance CEO, represents the company and its employees.
