- The Most DANGEROUS Chest in Sea of Thieves
If I was to ask you about different ways of sinking a ship, I bet only few of you would think of using a chest. But that's what makes it interesting-- The most dangerous chest in Sea of Thieves isn't one that explodes, it's one.. That cries.
In today's episode, Birdie and I are going to attempt to sink enemy ships by using the Chest of Sorrows! Enjoy all the highlights (and lowlights) of our journey with plenty of funny moments to go around.

Chest of Rage: A fiery boy, that can bee simply cooled down constantly with water in your ship.
Chest of Thousand Grogs: Makes anyone who holds it act less-than-sober. Wait, wouldn't pirates enjoy that?
Chest of Sorrow: Needs to be baby-seated before being sold/left ashore to pick up later/ -thrown overboard- .
definitely thrown overboard
The part that we don't get in game about the chest of grog is you get progressively drunker until you eventually pass out.
So if the game wanted to be true to the lore as you pick up the chest you should be fine the longer you hold it you should get more drunk and eventually you should black screen back to the ship dropping the chest
@@magicpyroninja no not beaing tu bacj to the ship it could be overpowered in some pvp situation
@@magicpyroninja Yeah, grog making people sleep, die or black-out is probably the most requested thing after captaincy and man-o-war.
couldn't you combine chest of rage and sorrow?
the sorrow keep some water inside and so the rage can't explode
Cliff I haven't even watched the video yet but I can't stop bingeing your channel, the storytelling is too good. Keep doing what you're doing man it's awesome.

Heads up: For anyone who wants to take the chest of everlasting sorrows, you can stop it from filling your ship if someone holds it while at the very bottom of your latter
Hey man, i've been following you for quite some time now and i just wanted to thank you for all the fun times you have given to me when i was in tough times. You made me smile a lot. Thank you.
Thank YOU for sticking around, I'm glad you enjoy the videos!
My friend sent me your first video a few days ago, and I've been hooked ever since! Easy sub, and your way of presenting your cont- uh, tales, are really entertaining!
Chest of Sorrow is the one thing that was universally hated ever since launch. For months, people were struggling to find a way to prevent it from flooding the ship, before eventually it was discovered that if someone was holding it while on the ladder to get on the ship, the water wouldn't fill the ship. However, last I heard that method was patched out. (It's been a while since I was involved in any way with SoT)
I remember being told a story by a crew mate of how he and his friend snuck a pair of chests of sorrow onto a parked galleon. They hid both chests in the crow's nest where the crying wouldn't be heard as easily. Following the galleon from a distance, they found it sank about 10 minutes after they planted the chests.
Also had a voyage where we harpooned a Chest of Sorrow aboard, debated keeping it around but ultimately did but eventually just ditched it out of a desire to not baby sit the crying boy. Well seems he got the last laugh as the chest bugged out. Though the chest was gone the crying and water filling stayed with our ship, even an hour after we ditched the original chest.
I started playing sea of thieves a couple a months ago and cliff is just making me addicted to both the game and his channel
Your a legend keep it up
Great vid cliff, hope you had a good vacation!
Missed you last week!
Maybe digging up so many kegs is a sign! 👀
That's what I'm thinking 👀
Love the videos man! Started watching about a month ago and can’t stop watching!!
I got to say, this is 100% one of, if not THE most entertaining channel I've ever had the pleasure of watching
This was unexpectedly entertaining! Even though you couldn't use the chest to sink a player, it all turned out good enough for a video! Thank you for your story telling, keep it going!
I literally just sold one of these with my friend when we were on a sloop going through the storm. It was kinda difficult but nothing we couldn't manage. It was probably because we were on a sloop.
One time i was on an island hopping crusade, i found a chest of sorrow and decided to put it on the bowsprit (big stick in the front) and left it there, 5 MINUTES LATER when i came back with a chest of thousand grogs, my ship just flipped over, no sound, no bell, just a silent, sad death, i then left the chests at the island, came back and sold them all
And that's why the chest of sorrow is the LAST ONE you should bring aboard
That's a lesson you only need to be taught once
It's called the bowsprit
@@knyt0 thanks
I’ve only managed to sink a ship with a CoS once. We had double boarded a galleon and wiped the crew out so we put it behind the stairs and waited for them to spawn back. With the holes on the bottom and mid deck, it filled faster than we thought as the ship was pretty much done when the crew spawned back. We ended up having to finish the fight in the water.
"You know what? Fuck you. Your getting a chest of sorrow."
slowly swims chest to other player ship
Guys, I know why does the Chest of Sorrows cry!
It's because Merrick still hasn't gotten a phantom grenade launcher that shoots fire- and blonderbombs.
Is that launcher why the season got delayed again?
@@CliffTheStoryGuy YES, EXACTLY! This is all a big conspiracy, mysteries are a childish riddles compare to what is going on truly on the Sea of Thiefes right now.
I've done this, sneak it onto a ship that's doing island work. It's quiet so they don't hear the attack coming in the form of cannon fire or a keg going off. Their ship is there one minute and gone the next.
Yet again you made an incredible video. Keep up the good work, this Chanel is Gold👍
I love your explanation as to why it's crying
A wholesome "GG" after sinking the enemy vessel? Now that's a rare sight indeed!
Gotta show that respect after a good fight
2 days ago I found a rage chest and a ritual skull. I put the chest on my ship, went back to get the ritual skull and as I neared my ship I heard crackling. Only as I got on my ship to put the skull away I realized that my ship was burning. Anyway I put most of my stuff( emergency storage crate, some treasure, and something else ) on the rowboat whilst combating the fire and after the I couldn’t grab anymore items( they were in the middle of the fire ) I started really combating the fire. After the fire got out of control the ship started to sink and I detached the rowboat, got on it, and watched as my ship sank. So just for pure confirmation, does the rage chest cause fire?
PS after seeing that you have a rowboat only video I have decided you earned a subscription seeing as you actually got me back into sea of thieves so thanks
one thing i learned with ANYTHING RNG based, it's always harder to find when you're actually looking for it
That was a good one. Not even close to plan but still super entertaining.
A CLIFF UPLOAD! Today just got a lot better!
Pro Tip: while one crewmate is steering the ship, another can pick up the chest and stand on the ladder on the side of this ship, it prevents the ship from getting filled with water.
It's actually surprising how quick it'll drown your ship too. Leave it alone for 5 minutes and it'll sink your sloop.
It was one of the first chests I got. Helped me got my gold hoarders emissary! The chest of rage almost sunk me when a friend who didn’t know what it did just loaded on the ship. I had asked where it was and managed to wet it before the explosion. We were on a brig and everyone was hauling loot so they wouldn’t be able to help
Had to come back to this lol I found 3 yes 3 of these in one gold hoarder mission and can confirm it is impossible to bring them anywhere 🤣😭🤣
This is a plug, but the plug is something good I swear. There is a video that has a guy sink a ship with only using a sorrows. The video is “I boat better than I lie” by Rawb. It’s really good check it out for the crying action. I’m sorry I had to do it like this, but I had no other way.
Love the content!
I think you found my loot on Mermaid's Hideway, My ship just randomly sank for no reason and on my way back I got krakened, so I just left. I had a lot of the loot you showed you grappled.
Love the comment on doing a tall tale. Never done one and don’t plan to
I'm dyslexic, the thing i hate the most is the lack of island names on map's. it takes me FOREVER to find the smaller island's on the map.
YESSS ANOTHER CLIFF VIDEO :D
Thanks to his accent (not an insult) half the time I hear Sea of Chaos, which honestly is also true.
😲
Cliff, I would love to be able to play with you guys sometime. I hope I see y'all out there someday.
Maybe do a video on hunters call through thieves haven? One of you does the riddle, one remains on the island, my friend and I got 20 gems in 2 hours last night.
Cliff, I haven’t seen this comment yet, but if you are holding a chest of sorrows and then hanging on the ladder on either side of the ship, it will prevent water from filling the boat. So, if one person holds the chest off the side, then you won’t need to ever bucket.
Please like so he can see :)
I know lmao
The only SOT YT channel i watch
cliff you give me the confidence to go into crazy fights ps. what do you use for your background music
I've started playing this with my five year old nephew and when we got the Chest of Sorrows, I told him it will fill our boat with water so the first thing he did was put on the tip of the bowsprit so the water doesn't fill the boat. I thought it was funny and told him thats not how that works.
the fastest way of gtting the chest is by doing normal gold hoarders quests, goes pretty quikly tbh
New video Idea: Becoming Robin Hood in Sea of Thieves
I absolutely love your clips, keep up the good work!
Interesting, I seem to find one of those on nearly every voyage I come across. Just the other day, I found floating treasure from a sunken ship and there were two floating which I placed on my ship and hustled to the nearest outpost to sell. I was solo slooping and keeping my ship from sinking was frantic, but I was able to do it.
I always find them when I don't want them 😭
Whenever i come across a chests of sorrows, i just straight up abandon it. i aint gonna deal with its nonsense.
Since season 7 started. I have dug up 6 Sad bois.
And one sunk me as i pulled inot port , all on me 😅
Does anyone know how Cliff gets his supplies at the start of his voyages? He always has so much!
Fun fact about how you can handle the chest of sorrow: you can stay on your ships ladder with it to negate the water effect
I know
@@CliffTheStoryGuy bruh
I realised i was backseat gaming. Sorry mate
i sunk my ship with a chest of sorrows and i didn’t even realize. i thought it wouldn’t fill my sloop because i had kept it on the harpoon. but it sunk my ship and i had to ROW all of my loot to morrow’s peak outpost LOL
Curse those logic defying chests!
I'm pretty new to the game so had no idea these chests had certain abilities that could fuck you over, the whiny piece of shit chest ended up sinking my ship while i was looking for more booty (the other kind of booty as well of course) and I had to put all my loot onto a rowing boat and sail all the way to the closest outpost, which was dagger tooth. Meanwhile my ship sank on liar's backbone and I only knew the general direction so I ended up accidentally going to shipwreck bay, before turning north to head to dagger tooth...
I've never been more tense in my life, especially considering at one point i spotted a player ship that landed on a nearby island and could do nothing but continue sailing straight praying they don't see me.
The loot was worth it though, especially considering I've been on 2-3 voyages beforehand.
At least you secured the loot that's good
Once i found two newies on a islan and i really wanted to help them with some money so i gave them 2 of my chest and another one... The crying one... I assumed they would know how about it but... They didn't and when i was leaving the island i saw their ship sinking... I felt so bad i went to take all of their things and wait them to come back to the island to explain ;_;
I remember raiding a shipwreck with my dad and I found a Chest
of Sorrows. So like an IDIOT I put it on the ship. 45 seconds later I swim up with a mermaid gem,
aaaand the ship sunk.
Cliff the legend
Doesn't the Chest of Everlasting Sorrows constantly cry, as in, it does not stop like a regular chest does.
I've done the sunken pearl tall tale (along with the other 4 in a pirates life) over 7 times due to helping friends achieve every commendation. I literally have every part of them memorized except for like 3 journal locations. Ig if you want help with it contact me
I love your videos cliff.
Your the best sea of thieves RUclipsr I swear
Cliff you can place the chest at the very tip of you ship to not be sink.
That.. That's not how that works..
@@CliffTheStoryGuy oh well ok just was saying one of my friends said it worked
Have you ever tried stealth sinking an enemy ship with your bucket only?
that sounds rather difficult lmao
I dont even have to watch to call this as BS.
That chest is easy to deal with so long as you arent slumming it solo.
The most dangerous chest is the reapers chest.
It always is.
Anything that puts you on the map for all to see is going to be more dangerous than having to toss a couple buckets over the side every now and then.
hey cliff what cannon flares do you use?
hey cliff may i ask how u show u fps/ping on the left upper corner ?
YOOO CLIFF UPLOADED LETS GOOO
We had one on our boat and went to sell our loot we totally forgot about it and our ship sunk
RIP
I really love your videos ! :D
Wouldn’t be surprised if the sea of thieves was made with the chest of sorrow
lots of crying
What sword dose cliff use?
Can we get a petition to change his name to Cliff the guy guy for one day
August Pitts the Comment Guy
Jeez this guy is getting really popular reallh fast
yeah jeez it's kinda weird
What sword were you using in this video 😱
as soon as my crew finds a chest of sorrow everyone starts arguing who takes it and sits on the ladder of our vessel
you can solve that with the dice rolling emote, whoever rolls lowest has to do it
That’s why I just go on duo sloops, it’s too chaotic
I already got Chest of Sorrow 2 times, that time was a nightmare
I duo on sloop with irl friend
My friend bucket all the water and i control the ship, he angry while the chest still there and when selled he HAPPY
And that is my worst nightmare because i bucket the water too and i feel the pain, and my friend always drops the water on the hatch near the stair💀
One time my friend dug in a completely random spot on an ashen chest voyage and got one
Why not just put it on the bowsprit
The other diffrence between the everlasting chest of sarrow and the regular chest of sarrow is that the everlasting one dosent fill your ship as quickly as a regular one but it is constantly filling it while the regular one does bigs spurts of water every so often. Witch one fills your ship faster overall im not sure though
I did feel like that was the case but I wasn't sure so I didn't mention it
Does playing it a sad song still work on it?
@@brittanyhuffman3701 no
@@Sirbananeth fun fact if you hold the chest and hang on the side ladder it won't full your ship
Uploaded while I was in the middle of another one of your videos! I must have amazing luck :D
lucky :(
The chest of sorrows is my absolute enemy- one time my newer crewmate (who had never played the game before) brought one upon the ship without another thought and we sunk not too much later. Another amazing video and good luck with those explosives!
Once me and my buddy watched a ship sink at an outpost and we figured that they had just logged and we decided to grab their logbook. Imagine our surprise when we arrived to see many a treasure floating in the water with nothing other than a chest of sorrows in the middle. Environmental storytelling at its finest!
Personally I think we need more cursed chests they just make it a more fun experience
I was curious about the cursed treasures when you first mentioned them, it's nice to see that you dedicated an entire video to them.
Still trying to come up with shenanigans I can get into using the Chest of Rage
@@CliffTheStoryGuy you could plant it on another ship like a time bomb
Plus a keg. Then it'a a REAL timebomb 👍
@@eldonte3039 the Chest of Rage gives very loud audio cues for when it's heating up and about to go Fwoosh. Sadly I don't see it working unless you get a particularly oblivious crew.
Just my opinion.
@@CliffTheStoryGuy There is a glitch for the Chest of Rage, if you get 4 buckets of sea water and then place the Chest onto the barrel behind the wooden barrel (on sloop) it wont deal any damage, if you get a few chests you can just have a permanent explosion on the front of your ship which wont deal damage to your ship
Only found your channel last week but you’re honestly the most entertaining sea of thieves creator. Actually becoming one of my favourite creators on RUclips. Keep up the good work
u can put the chest of sorrows on the front of the ship and it won't start filling with water
It didn't work for me sad
Day 5 of asking Cliff to speak German in a video
Everytime this king uploads it puts a smile on my face and I get the pleasure to watch the entire series all over again
I just recently got into Sea of Thieves and these videos are the only reason I keep playing. Thank you for making such great content!
Such a good video, I can’t believe you don’t have that many subs. You deserve so much. My first ever sail I did in the game I got the chest of sorrows and I resorted to consoling the chest lol
Hey I think a hundred thousand is a lot
@@CliffTheStoryGuy you deserve millions though
@@CMValo I wish SoT got that much recognition lmao
@@owyemen9367 true true. But I hope one day it will
The first time I found a chest of sorrows I panicked for about a minute until my crewmate picked it up and idled on the ladder. Apparently doing so prevents it from filling the ship, so we were able to safely transport it to a nearby outpost.
You used to be able to dump it on the very end of the bowsprit back when the game first launched and be able to transport it safely as it just cried into the sea but even that's different now. If it's on your ship, your pretty much gonna babysit that thing til you drown, sell it or get fed up and throw it overboard
Man, I love your stories and how much effort you put in these videos. Actually, I've found your channel recently, about a week ago, and i can't stop myself from watching your truly entertaining stories. Keep up the good work!
Day 1 of asking cliff to get a ton of treasure and then bury it and give it to a random crew
Love your vids i would love to be as good as you
Ahhhh the first comment. Love your vids dude keep it up
This reminds me of a time I was playing with my girlfriend and we were doing an Order of Souls emissary. I happened across one of these chests while we were at the Sunken Grove, and I brought it over near the ship. I had a bit of a stuffy head that day, and so I harpooned the chest onto our ship and then went back to help her finish up the quest. We got the infamous "ship sunk, emissary status lost!" text about three minutes later, and I was confused for a moment before I remembered... and proceeded to feel like the biggest idiot this world has ever seen! Needless to say, she was very disappointed! XD
But, I learned two good lessons that day. One: never play with a headache. Two: NEVER leave a chest of sorrows on the ship unattended for even one moment!
A valuable lesson learned
I'm guessing now ex girlfriend
@@owyemen9367 lol nah, our relationship isn't that fragile XD
Bro i wouldve deleted the video and thought it was a bust ! You spinned it into actual fun content ! you are AMAZING at this ! keep going !
Ok, i dont know if im going crazy or if this is a legit trick. Try putting the chest of sorrow on the harpoon gun, hanging over a boat. I swear, it didnt cry one time even tho i was an isle over from outpost. Let me know if it works for you too!
i swear fools lagoon is the hardest isle to find on the map, at one point i just started to think that the game was trolling me
chest of rage blows up, chest of a thousang grogs makes you drunk, and chest of sorrow periodically cries and fills your ship, however, the chest of everlasting sorrow never stops crying
I really didn't know what that chest done tbh. Thanks for the vid cliff keep up the good work!
The first time I found the chest of sorrows, I put it on my ship and it started crying.. So I bailed out the water and it stopped crying, then later I heard the chest crying again, and that is when I noticed that it was too late, then my ship sunk with all of my treasury. Lucky for me I sank near an Island where I buried my treasury (without the chest of sorrows) and sailed back to get my riches. Then I celebrated with fireworks!
I love your videos so much. I would love to see some longer length videos. I understand some people have shorter attention spans but if you made some longer length videos I’m sure there would be an audience for them.
The videos are as long as I think they need to be. I only like to show what I think enhances the video rather than putting it in there for the sake of filler
