Not necessarily, I have lots of bi racials in my family as well as myself. Sometimes having a the white dad is not guaranteed they would be of lightskin. Have some biracials with the white dad black mum sometimes the kids take up different shades or a shade closer to the mum or mid tone or it’s vice verse with black dads white mums, u never know what shade u will have . This is ridiculous! My children are brown. My granddaughter is biracial and light skin. This is the thing, we come to this world how God made us! Nobody picks their own skin tone. I’m my granddaughters brown grandma and she loves me and all her brown aunties and uncles and cousins, as well as her white cousins. Candiace sounds silly because most people want healthy children. But I kind of get where she might be coming from. Many years ago, there was some study that said by the year 2050 or there about, most people will be beige/light skin. I remember saying “I still want some brown people in the world.” because I didn’t want to be extinct. I still want to have folks around who look like me. I think it has to do with self-preservation. But our children are a blessing and part of us no matter their skin tone.

As a dark skin woman who married and had kids by a white man, I felt the same way as Candiace before I had kids and it was because I wanted my kids to look like me, I was afraid I wouldn’t see my face or family in them and I would lose that connection. Sometimes things aren’t as deep or sinister as the internet wants it to be.
She wasn’t being colorist. She has a vision in her head of what her kids would look like and now that is changing. Should she have admitted it out loud.. probably not but oh well.

I think some people in the comment thread need to look the definition of colorism up. Oxford dictionary defines colorism as:prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.It’s so important for us to understand that dark skinned women can not be colorist in the same way that blk people can’t be racist! Blk people can be Prejudice against whyte people in the same way that dark skinned people can be prejudiced against lighter complected people. The key to understanding colorism and racism is blk people along with dark complected people are oppressed because of their skin tone in a way that white and light complected people are not. Blk men and women are viewed as more aggressive snd hostile thus causing them to receive harsher criminal penalties than their whyte or light skinned counterparts. Please do some reading about colorism! I need us to continue 2024 and beyond understanding the brevity of the words we use and how it directly effects our communities ❤

Not all mixed kids are light skinned. Claudia is biracial and is browner than Black folks like Al. The black playmate twins are very brown, chilli is very brown. I grew up with Filipino and black kids abd many if them were dark skin, like chocolate.

It's just like me moving to NYC in the 90s and folks were saying people who were a size 10 or 12 were slim and in California it was plus size. Black folks view of light skin is based on region. Like I bet no one ever told Eva Pigford she was light skin in South LA but I heard my NY friends referring to her as light skin.
