Apparently Monaco's coffers were almost empty. They needed a draw, and Rainier needed money. Grace and her family had to come up with $2M in 1956 (about $20M today) for the dowry. If a man you're going to marry asks you and your family for cash, you shouldn't marry him. She's probably thinking that very thing.
Aristotle Onassis arranged this marriage. Monaco was a poor country and had enormous debt. Onassis pointed out to Rainier that if he married an American actress it would bring much tourism and people to the casinos. Onassis suggested Grace Kelly. He was a brilliant businessman and his scheme worked.
I've read Grace's biography, her parents mistreated her and put her down a lot, she ended up in unsatisfactory relationships with older men, Ranier used to put her down a lot, was allegedly having an affair with a priest (closet gay men treat certain women this way, I've been through it) and control her movements, she had to give up acting. She was also a poet, artist and animal lover, and had a unique sense of humour which gave her some consolation. I could identify with these elements of her life a lot, which is why I love her so much I suppose. I guess you can never erase those moments from your eyes, no matter how you look and dress. I think she was the loveliest, most unusual woman in film, ever. She had a lot going on beneath that ice princess veil.
Grace Kelly the most beautiful blonde, classic, elegant unsurpassed beauty. Well-spoken, gracious and impeccable. Very few other actresses have equaled her. Audrey Hepburn is perhaps her beautiful brunette counterpart. But lately the comparisons being made between Princess Grace and Meghan Markle are just nonsensical in every way. Princess Grace was truly a real star and with a matchless beauty: seemingly inside and out. She gave up a glamorous life as a major film star to lead a completely different, circumscribed life.

But I think Prince Rainier did grow to love her. He lived at least another 30 years after his wife's early death in a car accident. As far as I know he never remarried nor had any other lady friend after his wife's passing. Their son Albert is now ruler of Monaco.
She looks utterly exhausted and completely "over it". I read statements from her two eldest children, Caroline and Albert, talking about how both their parents hated their wedding and all the excessive hoopla associated with it---and that it took them years to actually watch film footage of the ceremony.
Yes, I read a magazine article that the week prior to the wedding was incredibly busy, what with greeting arriving dignataries, writing hundreds of thank-you letters for presents from the public, a garden party for all the citizens of Monaco, the pre-wedding gala, interviews, dress fittings, that Grace described herself as utterly exhausted by the time the wedding arrived.
I don't care much for her choice of wedding dress or that of princess diana but they carried themselves in such a refined, graceful and elegant way on the day.
Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, for sure, but, I think Princess Grace's dress was probably one of the most beautiful European Royalty wedding dresses ever, but, that's my opinion.
I'm inclined to agree about Diana's wedding dress - it was so overdone, but then again it was the early 80's, the era of shoulder pads and "more is more" so it was right in keeping with the times.
I liked Princess Diana more but not her dress. Like princess grace dress the best in royal dresses but like her the least. Both carried themselves well in public

The most beautifull woman of all times.
She really was the most beautiful woman. 😞😞 RIP⚘⚘⚘
She had the most solemn look I've ever seen. Like she knows she's not marrying just a man, but an entire country.
But I think Prince Rainier did grow to love her. He lived at least another 30 years after his wife's early death in a car accident. As far as I know he never remarried nor had any other lady friend after his wife's passing. Their son Albert is now ruler of Monaco.
Not solemn, SAD 😢
Lastima Grace se fue del cine .

The choice of vocabulary by the author is always fantastic
She was beautiful !
Yah, she looks thrilled
She's doesn't look happy
marilyn regan I know right
No she really doesn't.
maybe she was just nervous
She was nothing else but "MOVED"
Prince Rainier was not hot or a stud
Grace was soooo beautiful...but Ranier also had lovely face...only he wasnt tall...in fact..small...but she..she was somthing that Monaco will never have in woman...
The most beautiful royal ever
Her beauty is exquisite
I believe she was the most beautiful woman God created. Really.
she is extremely beautiful.
It's a joke ? Lola Astanova OK !
She looks like she's being forced to do this 😕
nae rangel My thoughts as well
she was really in love with designer oleg cassini but her parents said NO
I don't know a thing about her, but she definitely looks like it.
It looks like forced weddings in movies. So sad.
His son’s bride looked the same. She almost ran away, didn’t she (Prince Alberts bride)?
@@IngsHoops Depends on who you talk to. The tabloids said she did try to flee, Charlene herself said she didn't, but you can draw your own conclusion from her reply . . . when Hello magazine asked her straight out if she'd tried to leave, she replied "Of course I didn't, where would I go?" Read into that what you will.
The most beautiful bride and dress ever in history !!! But she doesn’t look deeply happy
In 1977 when I was 19, I happened to be at a college that had her there for a literature event. I knew about her but not as detailed as those folks, my parents, in her generation. Long story short: She came out of a room where I was standing next to the door. Didn't know she was in there. I said then at 19, "She is one of the most beautiful women that I ever saw!" Till this day...she tops my list of beauty and eloquence.
Top five most beautiful: Grace Kelly
She was at the same time so beautiful and so sad... Poor Grace ❤
Grace Kelly princesa linda, que pena morreu nova
Grace Kelly was the most beautiful princess in the world . . ..
Best wedding dress. I love the dress
Monaco was bankrupt when Grace married the prince, and she help him turn around everything ,at the end he couldn’t help but falling in love with her and so everybody else in Europe ,sadly we lost her to young ,she was a beautiful woman and a dignified princess !
I really love how natural the beauty of the Golden Age of Hollywood is. She is so Stunning, Glamorous, and an Icon. She's like a Angel Princess, 5 Years being a fan of her. I really love her movies, her films, her dress, her beauty and all.. A Beauty of an Icon & a Princess, one of the most beautiful Actress
To all those ladies with crystal bowl in comments, That time was different, Grace was from conservative family, no bride would have smiled in such grand occasion. Stop making assumptions.
Yes people don't get it was a different time. Just because she wasn't laughing and smiling didn't mean she didn't want to get married. I do think Princess Grace was treated shabbily by the renier family but she made the best of it and the people of Monaco from what I understand loved her. She cared for the people of Monaco
@@merricat3025 she was a true people’s Princess, long before the tabloids and narrated headlines.
