Seems that you just discovered her. Reminds me how I was impressed and speechless when I listened to her the first time. I'd recommend to have a look at her other videos, even if many of these are audio only. She is one of the most underrated artists, and I don't know why she is rather unknown.
I just discovered her this year and she's become one of my favorite artists, she deserves so much more recognition. She's incredible and should've been a star. I love this song it's so beautiful.
@@xenussister I found her And Dream of Sheep cover maybe like two years ago or so? Then in December last year her song Winter got recommended to me on Spotify on a playlist and I remembered her and I really liked it, and then coincidentally a few months later my internet friend told me about this album from her, Rhodes 1, and I was like "I know her!", so then we started listening to all her albums together and we're both huge fans now!
@GnosisMan50 Never fear, Happy's not in a bad place. Quite the opposite. She got married and she and her husband moved to a farm in central upstate New York, where they run a business (Dangerous Music), and care for stray, sick and unwanted cats. It's quiet and peaceful and she's quite content. She might be back with more music someday, You Never Know. They had talked of building a home studio at some point.
Saw her a few times at the Tin Angel sat next to her and her band before the show having dinner wish I would have talked to her she is amazing I wish I would have had a house concert.
I was lucky enough to see/hear her perform in Philadelphia in 1991. If ever an angel walked the earth,,,she sang like this. She's mesmerizing to hear as well as to behold...a Davinc marble statue in the flesh.
Jade DeNiro I ran this through Google Translate. How did it do? "When we love, we must proclaim it, for years this song accompanies me, always the same freshness."
That was real treat. I was listening to a radio show on 6 music. Holly Herndon (who?) standing in for Iggy Pop on his confidential show and thinking what a load of absolute out there crap ( I was rushing through the show) this woman is playing but a Happy Rodes tune (He's Alive) got me and now I might have to give the whole show another listen to see if I get any more of it. But it led me here and just wow and to see this is a decade old. Still amazing and still a treat. This is so much better than most of the rubbish around. How did she not get a massive break?
Hi, I'm glad you decided to delve a little bit further! Happy has 11 albums (from 1986 to 2007) and this song that Holly played was from her very first album, Rhodes I (1986). She's never been on a major label and never had the money (or burning desire) to tour extensively. She has a small but dedicated worldwide fan base, mainly from word-of-mouth, the rare alternative radio airplay, some collaborations and odd things like Holly's show. I think that one day she will be discovered on a large(er) scale, but who knows when. Thank you for listening and thank Holly for playing Happy. Did you read the description of this song? Happy talks about her love for monsters.
For some reason I thought I was commenting on "He's Alive" so that description part (Happy talking about her monsters) was for that song, which I see you've commented on. Sorry for the confusion.
@@xenussister Yeah I just read the monster stuff and lyrics. I thought she had been singing I let him live because I love him but it's let him. Far be it from me to improvise improvements but what the heck. I make him live because I love him. That's my imaginary version. Is xenusister Happy?
Hi, no, I'm not Happy. She's not on social media at all. My name is Vickie I've been a fan since 1988 and my husband and I have put up maybe 90+% of the videos on RUclips. He's k8fan. Almost all of the live clips were video recorded by my husband. I have some other Happy-related RUclips channels too. The @happyrhodesalbums RUclips channel, with all 11 of her albums, is mine too. I had her permission to do that! I have a bunch of Happy-related web pages too. Yep, I'm one of THOSE fans :). She hates publicizing herself so over the years I've done a lot of fan things just for the fun of it.
I should have said, the non-Security Project live clips. She's done some limited tours with a band called Security Project, a Peter Gabriel tribute band. There are several live clips of them, but only one is mine, part of a song called "San Jacinto".
I love this song!! I also like "Waking up" Buy hey, Where is Happy now? I looked for a web site but no.... I hope she did not succumb to drugs or anything like that...would be great to see her in concert.
@IamMohawk I never thought of the couple as a "couple" just as two separate people, but I don't know how Happy wrote it or what might have inspired it, so you could be right. They are dead though, yes.
@gojira2006 Why does he say he's "singing backup" - he's not singing?! Was he just testing the mic - he could have said something else? This could be misleading to someone who is new to Happy, by thinking it isn't her singing the low parts.
GOOD GOD! What a BEAUTIFUL VOICE! This Song Is VERY "Beautiful" Too! THANK YOU! My "Road" IS "Happy" now!

This piece is like blessing flown down from heaven. It is pure light.

Time to update this. :D
This is arguably Happy's greatest performance. It's as perfect as a studio recording, yet it was all done live in one take!
amazing, it's like she has two different spirits in her
our spirit is not limited to any amount of spirit...there is but one....all inclusive.
Binaj Ginab we all have soprano, alto, and baritone in us :)
This was on John Diliberto's show, "ECHOES" A surprise b'day gift listened on WXPN, Phila., 11:00pm

Never heard a voice like this , amazing gift.
20 years since first hearing her and I still can't believe how perfect her Kate Bush high register voice is.
Happy has such a beautiful and wide range of voice....just wonderful to listen to...
Wonderful song, fabulous musical atmospheres.
This girl is truly a great singer/writer ...hope she does another record....and the players are terrific
Quand on aime, il faut le clamer, depuis des années cette chanson m'accompagne, toujours la même fraîcheur.

"When we love, we must proclaim it, for years this song accompanies me, always the same freshness."
Hello xenussister... for me that translation is ok
When you hear her live it's even more amazing. Like angels flying out of her mouth :-) laf!
Oh, did I mention she's touring for the first time in 10 years???!!!

Thanks for replying. I'm so glad Happy is happy in her farm. I sincerely hope she makes a comeback. She has a voice like no other.

i have just discovered Happy Rhodes because of your and k8fa's vids... thank you for this gift, truly music for "these times"
We aren't getting this quality at this time!
What do you mean?
Thank you ;-) estar una cancion para corazon y alma GRACIAS
One of the most beautiful voices... why hasn't she become a star? And why is her newest album from 2007?? What happened to her?
Verry pretty song.
The same day this was recorded, Happy also performed "Save Our Souls," "Summer," and "Hold Me" but no videos of them have ever surfaced.
This is from 1995.
See details. exceptional.
Wish she'd do some new stuff.

This wasn’t the only song performed that session.
