After a year of renting an RV trailer, the landlord raised the rent by $300. I gave my notice to vacate. Two weeks later, my job department was pink slipped. Spent 21 days living in the back of my two door Jeep Wrangler as a 63 year old woman in winter. I am now back on my feet and independent again because two male elementary school teachers had mercy on me and gave me free rent for a couple of months. Thank you, Brett and James. ❤
Agreed. Originally, DD, insta, Uber eats, etc. were meant to be side jobs. Not a means to pay the bills. If these companies expect people to work these jobs as such, they need to compensate them like they are.
This is very dystopian. We can’t keep letting this stuff happen. Greed is corrupting America and there’s too many people experiencing financial hardship to let this just happen without consequence
I think greed in America was a problem since after the civil war we were greedy before then but largely rural or self efficient whole generations worked together less materialism etc we became really decadent after civil war
My rent has gone up and so many people in my complex have moved out. I now have to work as many jobs and side Hustles as possible to avoid eviction, but still spend time with my family and take online classes. Some days I feel empowered other days I feel suicidal. I'm praying that my not giving up will pay off. Good luck to everyone out there.
You are not alone, many times people don't understand how bad the economy is and become judgemental of others peoples plight in this uncertain times we live in. one thing is for sure nothing is guarantee in life, not even how much money you make, in one day you can lose it all.

I had to rewind it when he said he has a 18 y/o daughter, he looks 18 himself. He’s still young and can make something happen. He’s educated, well spoken, and has experience. Best of luck to him.
This is so sad. I did everything right: never did anything wrong in high school, got straight A's, scholarship to college, got a job with benefits and a pension and 401(k). Also, had children but got divorced. When families break-down, it is so destructive. We need intact families, preferably with at least one parent with a good-paying job that provides health insurance coverage, to survive in today's economy. My kids are 25 and 27 years old. I am still supporting them financially, and I am happy to do so. For many, many years, they hated and resented me for "choosing work over them." Now that they recognize just how much it costs to make a life in the USA, they are a whole lot nicer to me. I am so, so sad for everyone that does not have family that can help.
God bless you and your family I have lots and lots of family but they look at it in different ways like it’s you or an your own kind of thing I have been out there for six years and you know I love it who needs them anyway
I can relate to this young man in a number of ways. It’s ridiculous how we no longer have a middle class & almost no one can sustain a household independently. You’re either rich or poor. This guy is a brave inspiration to publicly share his story. He’s clearly not lacking faith or work ethic. Survival mode can be traumatizing especially when coupled with health concerns. I hope the right opportunity comes along & restore his stability.
People don’t know how to make choices in life and blame others for their poor decision making. “I had a baby with a man who doesn’t have a job and abandoned me. Now i need the government to pay for my child’s expenses. America is so bad…”

This dude's story is almost identical to mine. Craziness. Man I have a college degree, had a good job, money in the bank and the Great Recession took everything from me. I had to live in my truck and had the IRS levy all my cash. Couldn't find a good job because my credit was bad and I had a federal lien. Couldn't even open up a checking account. Then I was not able to find a place to live because of bad credit and a foreclosure on my credit. Everything crashed down and I realized that having an education and degree will NOT save you in this jacked up world.
Im sorry to hear what your going through, hopefully you can recover in the future soon. Get a job in the same field you had before. Im curious if you were doing pretty well and savings, why was your credit bad?
Attitude alone is worth little. He has a history of drug use and mental illness. He has no real plan and showed a lot of impulsivity by leaving a teaching job to hustle full time.

This hits home. I recently let go of my apartment to try to get ahead. My ex went to live with her son, and I'm living in my vehicle. It sucks but im sure things can get worse. I'll continue to pray for anyone going through these difficult hardships. Thank God i still have my job and people who care about my being. This will be my first Christmas out here in these streets.
My apartment complex raised the rent to $1600 ...then I got an ESA dog...they took my pet deposits of $550 and that very month they told me they weren't renewing my lease.I had a month to move out and couldn't find anything. Then my car transmission broke so my car was gone.I got a new one and then a drunk driver hit us and totaled it and my dog got hit by a car running from the scene...we used the public bus system to get to work and it made us late so we lost our job.I am so glad 2023 is gone.We had Covid, lost our car, home, savings and job in 6 months.Shows how fast you can hit rock bottom.
Excellent interview. You put the spotlight on a very important issue. His passion for teaching and helping students should not be wasted. I wish him the best of luck. There is no room for one misstep in this fragile economy. Family should stick together to lift everyone up
Blunt, dude made many mistakes and I'm only 6min in... Here is the list learn from it: 1: useless degrees, doesn't matter if its a masters, is it marketable? 2: needed a roomate. If you cant afford it alone, dont get it cuz youll be dependent on them. Can definitely get a roommate, just make sure you can afford it alone. 3: no 6 month emergency fund. Come on people! 4: Car note. Hes got a nicer car than me! Hes paying $600/month!! 5: credit card debt.... 6: 18yo kid... Sorry, this is absolutely your fault. Youve made mistakes after and after. I went through the exact same thing living & working out of my vehicle for almost a year with a full-time job. I have decent pay, but not enough to hold on to my apartment, ultimately going down this spiraling path into debt. Not having any family to turn to this was a difficult situation. Thankfully, after being forced to live like this for almost a year. I found somebody willing to work with me and rented me a studio Now i'm in the process of rebuilding my life after having my credit ruined by not being able to pay my financial obligations It's like this. What good is it to have a high paying job? But You can't afford to have a roof over your head ..
Although it helps to have a college degree, Just because you have a college degree does not guarantee that your life will be smooth sailing. Making the right decisions and right choices in life does. You have to be very strategic in how you move through this life.
It’s all about choices. But a lot of people look down on the homeless. So many people could be here. Most people live paycheck to paycheck and do not have any money saved for an emergency.
This is really sad. It’s a really tough job market out here right now. I have a bachelors in IT and was laid off last year and still haven’t found good employment myself. It’s really tough but I trust in God to get me through
For some reason even before the crash employers never really understood how to recruit for IT because of how vast that field is and sometimes ask for the most obscure programs that are either too new to have x amount of experience or too old that there's barely updated material on it. This also isn't taking into consideration the agism that goes on in the workplace which was explored by a woman named Elizabeth White Author of the book 55 unemployed and faking normal.
My ex, after losing her high paying job and not being able to find one that pays even just a regular pay has now realized how big a problem we have in America. But off course its a little too late, this problem is only going to get worse. Strap in!!
Never put yourself in a situation where you’re relying on someone to keep up their end of the deal. He needed to rent a room and not depend on someone else to come up with their part of the rent
If you are living in your car go get a CDL. It's way more comfy sleeping in a tractor trailer than a car. Plus they pay you to do it. I've been doing it since COVID.
In 2002 I had a 2-bedroom 2-bath apartment in Scottsdale by the big Motorola building for $600 a month. It was just me and I needed some room for my business but if it was 2 people like the place was kind of set up for, that's only $300 a person. Anyone could do that. It was really easy for ordinary people to get along 20 years ago. Even the utilities were cheap back then.
I live in the Northeast and have recently found myself struggling. After reading your comment I reflected on my area and what it was like 20 years ago. $1100 for a two bedroom apartment in a busy area, everything you need within walking distance, 60 minute train ride to Midtown Manhattan. Today, studios go for $1500 in the nice buildings. The not so nice units in older buildings go for $1200. You’re right, back in the day it was much easier to do wish you need to do. Nowadays I worry about moving and how expensive it is to secure a place, if you have good credit of course. In my area, $22hr was quite nice back in the day. It’s rent and bills nowadays. Stay safe
Globalization!! They let anyone from anywhere in the world buy property in the USA and then it sits empty until the person decides to sell it to make bank. Canada just recently put a stop to it in their country.
Living with my inlaws in AZ...I am not willing to pay those crazy rental prices without a huge cushion. Saving for property and getting closer everyday.
I can’t even watch this talk. I’m in tears. This man does not deserve this. I pray our collective positive energy reaches him and lifts him out of this situation. We are praying for you baby. ❤
If someone was to tell me they had to live out of their car even for a short period of time, the last job they should have is one that requires you to use your personal vehicle. Being someone in the automotive repair business I can tell you that you will stress your vehicle and eventually have major repairs in your future. You would be better off working in a brick and morter building and only sleeping in your vehicle.
Abolish tipping custom. It's deflecting the low wage issue of the company to customers' behavior . Wages should be employers' responsibility. That's how it works in the rest of the world. Tipping is one of dysfunctional systems like medical in the USA.
Tipping has nothing to do with this problem. A few bucks to a waiter is not enough to cause this poverty problem across all sectors. NOBODY makes a decent wage. i make almost the same wages as 25 years ago, while housing has increased by the hundreds of dollars. If you are living in a red state, its 4 times as bad. You also didn’t have to go into debt like this 20 years ago. Conservatism ruined that too.

God bless this man, I have so much respect for his fortitude and effort! He is so well spoken and relatable. I hope things get even better for him in the future.
I feel for the guy with the master's degree. I also was getting paid well when I was working in the tech industry, but my location of employment was right smack in the middle of downtown, where cost of living is absolutely crazy, there are fees for parking and prices getting rides were excessive (For any of you that are curious, I live in an area where gas goes for over $5/gallon). After rent, repairs, and food with zero luxuries I would be left with a few measly hundred dollars. God forbid I have a medical emergency because I'll be bankrupt. I only lucked out when family offered me to live with them outside of the city where the pace of life is MUCH slower. I moved back with family, took a lesser job and was able to transition to my own practices. I don't make nearly as much as when I was working in tech, but cost of living is a LOT lower and I get more free time for myself. I pretty much did the same thing the guy in the video did, but the difference is that I was lucky enough to have family to let me stay while I changed to a slower-paced lifestyle.

I feel for the guy with the master's degree. After rent, repairs, and food with zero luxuries I would be left with a few measly hundred dollars. God forbid I have a medical emergency because I'll be bankrupt.

My family is toxic. I left them behind in another state.
Hel has a positive attitude & good work ethics and I pray his situation will get better & he can get a stable place 2 live. I wish I were rich so I could help people like him.😀
We may not be rich enough to help, but at least we can try voting on initiatives and for people who back social programs. Seriously feels like the only non-violent hope at this point
My goodness!! My daughter came out to me and I loved her so much for sharing and she is just as sweet as this young man! God wants us to love love and more love and let God be God!! He has many blessings for this young man! Don't give up on God! Here in Cali mental health agencies assist with permanent housing! Stay strong and courageous! God bless!!
GOD wants us to love His people, but He doesn't want us to love their sin! There's a big difference. I pray this young man will put His faith in JESUS CHRIST alone because he can be delivered and set free from all his sins if he puts his faith in JESUS CHRIST to deliver him. 🙏

@@StickyKeys187No, it’s not. Jesus said those that without sin throw the first stone. You can tell your child they are sinning, but not reject the child themselves. People who do that give christianity, and quite frankly God a bad name.
14:54 I've been listening for a while and the fact that his family did all those things to him is a reflection on why many parents wonder why their children don't talk to them anymore. Budgeting especially now a days is a very important skill that is needed.

If there's a ymca in the city, try to see if they have housing. I live at a ymca with housing and only pay $150 every week to rent a bedroom with a small fridge, twin bed, free wifi, shared bathroom and utilities are included. I only need to pay $100 a month for private parking. I also have the option to pay with a checking account or credit card. The only requirement is that you need to have a clean background.
I remember the YWCA helped my sister when she was homeless. They got her in affordable housing, and even provided her with food and furniture for her apartment.
I had no clue the ymca offered those services.
I cannot believe that educators are paid so little in the US. Most teachers that I have met, are living one step away from poverty.

I’ve lived in Tempe for 42 years. We can not sustain the growth in Arizona. It’s too much! I feel bad for those that don’t have housing, especially those that have lived here for a long time and have roots. It’s really sad.

How do you survive in the summer with all that heat and being in the car ?
He have a Masters in Mathematics like me. What he needs to do is apply into the insurance industry as a sales agent while studying for the actuary exams in order to make really good money. If he doesn't like the insurance pathway, then he he needs to go the IT/cybersecurity route by studying and taking the CompTIA A+ and Security+ exams along with CCNA.

If he is a teacher why doesn't he do contract employment through an agency. My daughter did this and made more than the teachers she worked with.
I know. I don't understand this. There is a teacher shortage.
@@melvapryor9868 The reason he left the academy doesn't make. He said he left because the pay wasn't enough for him to pay his rent, so he decided to leave that job and live in his car. Sounds like he was fired to me,and possibly the reason he isn't looking for another teaching job. Teaching and substitute teaching jobs are plentiful with decent pay.
Ex-addict. Maybe he has a record as a result. ?
I really wish him well and hope he's doing better. Clearly there is a lot more to the story.
What concerns me is he's not even following the basic rules of delivery. You can't move to AZ and dash with TX plates and insurance. All food needs to be placed in a hot bag for temp control and hygiene.
It's great to want to help others or teach, but we all need to help ourselves first.
You have to have a car in Arizona. Way too hot there, just don’t see how he’s sleeping in the car during summer months. That place is unbearable.😢
It's very difficult for young adults to go back to school and study an in-demand subject because there is pressure on you to work and pay your bills.
Right, I know someone dealing with this right now.
Universities are a waste of time unless you are studying the STEM disciplines. But if you have a criminal record or substance abuse problems you have no chance of teaching or much of anything else

Same thing for older people too

The main issue seems to be the mental illness crisis & drug abuse issues that affect most unhoused people. The abuse & marginalization from this society. The lack of support & breakdown of family relations. Also the terrible expensive healthcare system. The government doesn't do enough to take care of their citizens.
Exactly 💯
It is the governments fault because they are owned, as everything else by corporations. It's that the government took away all the laws that would allow greedy cooperations to take over and run everything

I have a question do you make a good living being a Uber driver or a DoorDash driver? Just curious.

Arthritis can ruin your mental health too.
Exactly. People assume it's laziness but it is genuine pain and/ or extreme fatigue.
If you have arthritis I would suggest trying to not eat vegetables from the nightshade family for at least a 3 month period to see if that may be the cause. Avoid fully tomatoes, white potatoes, eggplant, peppers and others you can google. Nightshade to some people like myself cause inflammation which attacks the joints.
Im very fortunate enough to say I've never had to deal with homelessness but I was almost there early 2020. I graduated with a B.S. degree in New Media with job postings asking for X years experience and a low starting wage (go figure). I had to donate plasma and sell off some of my items just to make ends meet for a couple of months before my side hustle picked back up. The degree does not guarantee immediate job placement nor that starting wage.
Degrees in the US Trap young folks in Debt .Usually more than they will be earn . Getting a trade can earn far more and get Paid to learn it .
Facts
Ppl must get degrees where the pay is commensurate with the loan they must pay back. Stop getting Bachelor Degrees in History, etc., unless you plan on teaching!

I hope his life improves as well and everything is crazy expensive however, he got hooked on heroin and other drugs. He was able to go to Baylor and get a Masters. He had the foundation and the drugs knocked him off course. Perhaps he is not close to his family because of the former drug use?

I do Uber and I have two degrees that are business related and have over a decade of experience in my field. I guess there are too many educated people chasing the few jobs in the economy.
Or it could be that for employers to cut the cost of labor they would take more than one job and merge the responsibilities into one making someone be a jack of all trades while having requirements that are outrageous in order to justify keeping the pay low.
In recent years states have made laws on salary transparency and I hope the dignity at work act passes as well so it can cut down on the toxic workplace culture that has festered all these years.

Become a trucker or bus driver (3 to 6 weeks) at a vocational school. A Phlebotomist. Fireman. Mechanic. There are many vocations at vocational schools which offer financial aid and take up to 3 months, typically. Two people doing long haul, would have the truck to sleep on, an income from driving side-by-side, and save up to get a piece of land and a little security.
