    I've been following the Tally ho project and just discovered this one. 40 years ago I was doing this type of boat work and loved it and lived aboard also. I'm living my former life vicariously now it seems. I'm 78 now and age is slowing me done. Seems I've found another great channel to follow.

    I know the boat. I’m retired now and don’t do that work anymore but am happy to see there are still people willing to throw a ton of money at an old wooden boat. As I remember the original engine had a cast bronze block.

    Many years ago I had the chance to buy a large wooden sailboat for the price of the new equipment that was installed 2 years prior, the sailboat wasn’t taking water but after careful inspection and diving to inspect the hull , it was past due to be refurbished.
    So it wasn’t a good deal at all or only to take off all the equipment and install on an other sailboat.

      1947 in Denmark. Worked as a fishing vessel before conversion to a gaff rigged ketch. Gribble was the curse of European waters, as of course was fresh water. Difficult to find huge oak beams of the right quality now. At least your softwood planks will be fast to caulk.@@FavouriteBoatworks

    I still think you fine gentlemen are nuts for going to such measures to resurrect the North Star unless you have a deep pocket owner who doesn't want to know the cost, just giter-done. Just seeing the rot on this poor lady makes me ill sometimes. Of course I'll still watch : )

    What is the hurking c arm machine in opening? Band saw?

    • @Deanmachine667
      @Deanmachine667 6 месяцев назад +3

      It’s an antique “ships saw”. It allows u to cut a rolling bevel with large Timbers keeping the timber on a flat table (not sliding down a sloped table). The band saw rotates around the table making the job much easier.
