I started in the motor trade in 1969 Sean and I would say those two jobs have never changed since then, unlike most of other jobs on vehicles, apart from the wear indicator of course, back then it was the metal to metal sound that was the wear indicator 😂 another good video

The caliper pin is known as a slide pin (I think..or at least it is on a CBR rear caliper!) and the rubber bit is a boot. A bit of silicone grease on those will keep them supple and prolong life. Caliper bolts with the thread locking compound definitely need a torque wrench. If you are passing J16 on the M6 give me a shout, you can borrow one of mine.

Electricians, (me included) tells people you shouldn't do your own electrical work to save money. It's dangerous only qualified electricians should do the electrics on your house. Also electricians (me included) fix their own van/car to save money because mechanics are too expensive.
We'll never get the irony of that.
Welcome back Sean. Hope you've a few videos lined up for us.

I’m glad I’m not got only one with a van bag that’s a state 😂
Used to love doing maintenance on my motors & early vans. Enjoyed the tinkering and fixing bits as well and general maintenance but sadly these days too busy to do it so end up paying through the nose for the garage to do it!🤦🏻‍♂️😂
May also have been the ceased pin on the calliper I had to get out as I’d gone too far and it was an absolute bastard 😂😂😂

We no longer use copper grease on braking systems as the copper fragments within it interfere with ABS. Most automotive factors stock brake grease now from various brands.
Never had much luck with the Moog brand (a division of the once mighty Federal Mogul) stick with the main brands like Lemforder, Valeo, Febi Bilstein etc.
I presume you bled the brakes after winding back the pistons? There will be air trapped in the caliper giving you poor pedal feel and increased chance of brake fade.
When tightening the anti-roll drop link nuts you should still counter hold the bolts as spinning the ball joint in its socket will lead to premature wear of the socket.
At least no impact gun so top marks for that.
Only thing missing is the torque wrench, believe it or not every nut & bolt has a torque spec with many fixings being torque to yield requiring their replacement every time they are undone.

    • @Cablesmith
      @Cablesmith  Год назад

Never knew that about the copper grease, and as for Moog, I know nothing about the brands for car stuff I just got whatever one they gave me in the shop tbh. I did bleed the brakes and tighten the drop link with the Allen key still, but for torque, I know they all have a rating but I don’t have a torque wrench so that’s just a guess 😂

@@Cablesmith having done rewires in my younger years I did warn him about all the chasing and potential dust and what to expect, dust can settle for days.many are totally oblivious to the amount of work and difficult cable routing, tiled, laminate floors, extensions with limited acces, fitted kitchens etc, so he was well prepared.
I knew somebody once who was in shock when they saw what was involved.. thought the cables were already there in the structure to connect to !!!
I will, of course recommend you if I hear of anymore work.. not easy to recommend someone you have never met or seen their work.. RUclips worked in your favour there, for sure.

    another top tip
once you've put the rear pads on you should use the foot brake to push the pistons out to locking positions before you start to apply the handbrake
decades of doing this has taught me that and saved countless hours od headaches as to why the handbrake isn't as good
