Have you done an update yet? So the drought has nothing to do with this specific part of the water level being so low? You also mention opening the dam to fill it back up, that would be something I’d love to see!
Davis dam is abt a mile up river from the riverside casino. Davis dam controls water flow and level. Lake Mojave is a MAJOR source then Lake Mead. Nothing to worry abt. This is not caused by the drought
I live here an the Arizona side. There is a channel that runs close to the middle. Yes I have seen the water low like it is now. I have never seen anyone walk across.
You might be interested in checking the headwaters USGS gauging stations. Natural Colorado river flows up there are only 10% lower than recent historical stream flows. The remaining loss of water in the river is due to water diversions, which have been increasing for decades. Guess what happens to the downstream river reaches and reservoirs when this happens.
With 4 times as many people and 8 times more agriculture in California than when the Colorado River water storage projects were constructed, it's no wonder there is a water shortage. Continually asking other States to solve California's water needs seems impractical, especially when desalinization is at their doorstep to supply the growing water use. It might make their agricultural products less competitive with imported products, but GEE WHIZ!
To be perfectly fair here, like most major rivers the Colorado River has some very shallow areas that you can walk across, and some very deep areas of water where you better know how to swim if you want to cross the river. However, you’re correct that the Colorado is a river being loved to death.
It’s not supposed to be that clean. Historically before it was damned the Colorado River was the siltiest river on the planet, moving millions of lbs of silt a year, especially during flood seasons. Thousands of species of native fish have gone extinct, as well as amphibians, birds, insects, reptiles, etc.
