This brings back such good memories :'), i am the boy in the red jacket and pointy hat. I havnt seen this video in 2 years and looking back it now i realise how lucky i was to have that oppurtunity! not many people can say they have been on stage and peformed with the legend ron moody and i share some of my happiest memories with this productuion, watching this reminds me of how much i actually miss this show, so thankyou to whoever uploaded this video
You know, it is not always the case that the first person to perform a role in a production is the best, but darned if I can think of a better Fagin than our man Moody.
Ron Moody was the best Fagin EVER! After watching clips of him on chat shows, I discovered his lovely sense of humor. Mr. Moody made the world a brighter place.
What a Legend!!! I first saw Oliver at The New Theatre in Oxford in the 60s. It still brings goosebumps, and a tear to the eye. Ron Moody was a true legend of British/World stage.
I've watched this 3 times in 30 mins.Amazing that I now listen to such heavy hardcore music but I can still watch the film/musical that set my obsession with music off at 3 years old
Earlier I was laughing at how I went from going through these to listening to Griselda and Nas like nothing happened lol. I wonder how many of us there is who have just never bought up our love of this stuff around other people because we assumed no one cares
For videos like this some people dislike the camera work. They forget that this is not professional. I mean, it does get frustrating sometimes, but idk if I would dislike a video over it.
I played OLIVER opposite VINCENT PRICE in the National tour here in the U.S. Years later I met Ron Moody in Beverly Hills. I introduced myself and he was extremely humble and nice. When I told him I played Oliver when I was 10 he acted impressed. When I said, "I did it with Vincent Price", he looked at me and said, "oh really? And who did he play" ?
There can only ever be one Fagin for me...what an absolute joy to see Ron so full of it & obviously enjoying himself. His voice still sounded great for a man in his eighties too. Ron & Jack Wild (God rest him) absolutely stole the show in the Oliver film, & as for that skipping type dance at the end...Classic. I`m off to put the dvd now. Thanks for posting.
WOW that was a great play well done by the kids good practice makes a great show, the kids were all in good timing with the music and big credit to there instructors to have patience with each kid. Was great to see Fagin again RIP. Bernie USA
I booked to see this at Drury Lane expecting to see Rowan Atkinson, who I really like, but he was ill and Russ Abbott took the part instead. In the event I thought it was brilliant! One of the most impressive shows I have ever seen. I agree that Ron Moody has always been 'THE' Fagin in most people's minds and affection but my word, Russ gave a performance that wwas every bit as good in my view. And as for the show and the stage sets ..... Stunning. Thanks so much for posting this video.
Daniel Huttlestone Thanks Dan. According to another website, at this performance, which was on June 30, 2010, Jack Costello was Nipper, Gwion-Wyn Jones was Oliver, Ben Wilson was Dodger, Lewis Smith was Charlie Bates, and Russ Abbot was Fagin. Jack Costello is Charlie on the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" original London cast album.
Vincent Price was a great Fagin. As a person he was extremely unpretentious, very accessible, everybody's friend. He also inserted his own dialogue into the script that had the audience in stitches. He could get away with it being Vincent Price. He also had me believing everything in the movies was REAL.
I'm not a fan of Oliver, but the songs I do love, and the fact being 86 and Ron can still sing this song as if it was his first time is truly amazing, he is a musical theatre true legend
Dickens story was a political comment in a newspaper of the late Georgian period, showing the inevitable moral and physical decline of the poor (who were totally ignored by the rich), after parliament had made their only refuge, the workhouse, even less livable. I don't think spirituality comes into it. Oliver was born to be hung that's why he has the name Twist (victorian slang for noose) and Dicken's shows why. But point taken, how it gets to be a lovely children's musical is beyond me too.
Its funny when you find out that lionel bart didn't believe that the musical would do well and on the opening night he didn't watch it and when he heard the audience he thought people were booing
@Maynard345 Dont worry i confuse myself all the time lol. Any time i've seen the show, the only other character that has some status along with Dodger would have been Charlie. But i'm guessing its not him either. lol
Pity you didn't have a mini tripod along. Camera shake makes this otherwise treasure of a video almost unwatchable. Audio is better than others' posted here but speech is unclear.
When Cameron Mackintosh revived Oliver in the 1990’s he gave Lionel a share of the profits. It’s nice to think that his masterpiece did help him out in his final years

Who was the Fagin in costume from the cast of the show?
What about charley bates?
This was the original shillings team

CONGRATS
I could watch Ron Moody sing I'm Reviewing the Situation over and over. He was fantastic!
Thank heaven for RUclips that we can share these marvelous moments that would otherwise just be lost. Thank you for posting.
What a wonderful tribute to an iconic actor. No one portrayed Fagin better.
This man still has the singing and comedy chops! The definitive Fagin. He has a deep love for the stage and performing that comes through
You know, it is not always the case that the first person to perform a role in a production is the best, but darned if I can think of a better Fagin than our man Moody.
Ron Moody was and remains the definitive screen Fagin for me, since first watching Oliver! as a kid in about 1984.
Rest in peace Mr Moody.
He was 86 years old here!! Fantastic!!
Ron Moody was the best Fagin EVER! After watching clips of him on chat shows, I discovered his lovely sense of humor. Mr. Moody made the world a brighter place.

I first saw Oliver at The New Theatre in Oxford in the 60s. It still brings goosebumps, and a tear to the eye.
Ron Moody was a true legend of British/World stage.
Ron Moody had a strong comedic flair. Played Fagin with deep humor and sinisterism. Brilliant!
His memeory lives on. RIP
Yessir. A legend

What a fantastic surprise for this to suddenly pop up. I’m sure You Tube must be reading my mind! 😂

Happy 50th Anniversary of Oliver.
I am totally loving this.
How can anyone add a dislike to this 🤔 absolutely brilliant
Arseholes are everywhere apparently 🤔

I can see Vincent Price as Fagin totally
I think Rowan Atkinson is able to play doggone near anything, he is that good of an actor

I’m so glad someone fined this. This guy was a legend. I saw him on stage as Captain Hook in the 70’s. Lulu was Peter Pan.
God, what an incredible experience to be on stage with him! I'm so envious of those boys!
(and the audience, obviously)
WOW that was a great play well done by the kids good practice makes a great show, the kids were all in good timing with the music and big credit to there instructors to have patience with each kid. Was great to see Fagin again RIP. Bernie USA
Thank you for uploading. Whatta treat.
thanks for sharing these. Maybe not the best recording, but it's a delight to see Ron Moody still singing and joking around. God bless him.
The one and only great Ron Moody like going back in time, when I saw Oliver all those years ago Lionel Bert was there also watching.

@@tomchitling Oh yeah I know bless him! I’m good friends with him!
He actually looks like he still play the part lol 😆 ....

Thanks for recording this is brilliant!

What great fun. I'm regret having missed that with the chance to go in '09, but passed it up. I'm kicking myself to this day.
Awesome! Thanks for this!
Ron Moody you are a true legend!!
Thanks for the comment, I'm just a fan who remembers OTM the first time around. Good luck, hope you carry on performing.
I'm not a fan of Oliver, but the songs I do love, and the fact being 86 and Ron can still sing this song as if it was his first time is truly amazing, he is a musical theatre true legend
Ron Moody is a world treasure.
The dance at 5:36 the little one Nipper I think Daniel Huttlestone, looked absolutely adorable.
It’s Jack Costello but Dan did play that role also
@@matildageek8269 jack also played one of the charlie’s right?

RIP Fagin :(
50 YEARS!
RIP
@ihearttwilight224 , awesome show wasn't it!
Happy birthday Ron
His singing was surprisingly good. Actors of his generation all in some way or another knew how to sing. It was sort of required.
Cool! I wish there was a recording somewhere. :(
awesome!!!
legend
what the?! i thought this guy was dead it's amazing to see him on stage =D

Wow. Thats amazing. I am a huge musical fan and In my opinion OLIVER! was the best ever. Its the whole package.
Amended. The Oscar was in 1969.
That's a great story!!! "and who did he play?" lol
The musical predated the film by some years.
I wonder why the speech was cut out the vid, he's a funny bugger would have been good to hear, was great anyway :)
how old is he here? 89? he's amazing!!!!
@jammie196dodger cool, did you get to meet Ron Moody offstage? :)
One of the kids in back of Ron (at about 3:35) is visibly annoyed at him stopping the song. Get over it, brat -- this is RON MOODY!!
Rest in pease
Its was quite long and the camera works not good so I took it down, but its here. ww.ruclips.net/video/B9SHSIuiJc8/видео.html

Who played the Artful Dodger in this particular performance?
Ben Wilson :)
You and me both.
Pity you didn't have a mini tripod along. Camera shake makes this otherwise treasure of a video almost unwatchable. Audio is better than others' posted here but speech is unclear.
Poor old Lionel, made some bad financial decisions, died with nothing. RIP
thats the best way. you cant take it to the grave. spend and enjoy it
@@jakesmithdigital That's one way of looking at it.
When Cameron Mackintosh revived Oliver in the 1990’s he gave Lionel a share of the profits. It’s nice to think that his masterpiece did help him out in his final years
Awesome! How was his singing? Did he talk-sing, or actually sing?
The Film was from 1968 not 1969 and the film is only 44 years old.
He first played Fagin in early 1960 on stage before the film.
Wow! How was Price in the role?!
you may not believe me but i am the boy with the red jacket and glasses with the black hat
