  • EDIT: Should have added: With the factory shim and circlip back in place, measure freeplay with feeler gauges. There should be 0-0.2mm. Reshim as required.
    Quick video to discuss why I'm fitting frree-wheeling hubs on my Isuzu Dmax, and a step by step tutorial on how to do it.

    I solved the problem of the 4x4 functioning by mounting the tyrex manual hubs instead of the automatic hubs that always gave problems in my 2001 Suzuki Jimny 4x4 with m13a motor and to replace the automatic hubs and overhaul the vacuum system for inserting the 4x4 I would have spent many euros between spare parts and labor! Hi mate good clip again
    You should carry one of the old hub fittings in case any issue with free wheel hub
    I use mine in 4wd low in freewheel for reversing caravan helps save the clutch
    So you can have low range 2wd also

    I just put an Auto Lokka in my RC Colorado front axle. I've realised my front driveshaft is rotating in 2wd (which means my transfer box chain is rotating too) and my fuel economy has got worse. I've bought an Aisin freewheel hub and will put it on the RH wheel to stop the front driveshaft etc rotating. I hope my fuel economy improves. If it works OK I might buy one for the LH side so I can put the car in 2wd low range for eg pulling heavy loads up my steep driveway. It'd be good if a wheel nut cover would still fit.

    Ahh, sorry, being picky here but the factory are not "auto locking hubs". They are "permanently locked" hubs with no ability to free wheel.
    Yes I know it's just terminology, but geez I've seen that many people get confused but this same thing here.

      @@WildTouring I think Isuzu is one of the many few, if not, the only truck who still uses old style full floating hubs wih tapered roller bearings. Most vehicles today use Unit Hub style bearings. This is the main reason why we can fit manual hubs on Isuzu.

  • @theboarhunter

    Thanks for the video. Just a quick one. I'm a little confused. When the new manual hubs are locked and I'm in 2wd it is basically still 2wd? When the hubs are locked and in high4 or low4 it's basically in 4WD? When hubs are unlocked and in high or low 4 what happens then? I must have missed the point please shed some light. Much appreciated. Also are these suited for the Colorado RG ?

    • @WildTouring
      @WildTouring  6 лет назад +4

      You can get AISIN manual locking hubs to fit the RG, unsure of what the part number for your vehicle is though. With the hubs unlocked you will always be in 2wd regardless of whether the transfer case is 2H/4H/4L, because you are manually disconnecting the front hubs from the axle. I would still recommend that you leave the transfer in 2H though, as in 4H/4L the front driveline will still be rotating. With the hubs unlocked and the transfer case in 4L you will effectively have low range 2wd, which is great for low speed maneuvering on hard surfaces (think boat ramps etc). With the hubs locked in and the transfer case in 4L or 4H you will be in 4x4. Hope that clears it up for you? Cam.
