The curved "S" spoked flywheels were apparently cast that way to help reduce the stresses created during the casting process, making them less prone to breaking during use.
true
Hand Tool Rescue love your channel bud!! 👍
Maybe time for "fried chicken", or the stew pot!!!!
It is also for heat, If you have a cast iron wheel with straight spokes, and either the shaft/hub or the wheel gets hot, there is no provision for expansion and contraction. With cast iron, this heat differential can cause catastrophic failure.
Adding a curve to the spokes or dish to the wheel gives the metal a place to flex a little and prevent cracks. Not as much of an issue with steel wheels because steel has a bunch more elasticity that cast iron.
Love your channel, keep up the good work!
Flea markets really are a great way to get inspired. I see all sorts of cool furniture and tools and whatnot at my local flea market that always get my brain gears turning. That, and I always manage to get my hands on some rusty old tools to restore.
Thank you for making content that both my 2 year son and I can enjoy😀 I love watching these videos with a coffee on a Sunday morning.
"yes, YES! Soon ill be able to put my name on the ANTS IN THE BACKYARD! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHHHAHAA!"
He's working his way to the mosquitoes so that his brand can spread nationwide with little overhead.
I just bought a firemans axe BECAUSE of THAT video jimmy! I got it shipped all the way from kentucky to me here in ireland! It was an old but brand new unused axe head. It is now one of my prized posessions! We cant get those axe heads here in ireland anywhere so I am chuffed that I have something genuinely american and rare in my hands, all because of your firemans axe video! :D and yes, I need to put a new handle into it....
That 'moly' rod could be a lot of things but two materials jump to mind, chomoly, or molybdenum but doubt its either of those.
Peter iii
That's because you don't have any trees in Ireland.
My cat deleted my comment as she is a calico. Actually had to get back to write this. I still want to see you teaming up with Spike like in the ol" days., or is he a retired cat of leisure these days, LOL! You are pretty excited about those finds.
I love when you show the flea markets. Being from Idaho where we don't have many, it's nice to look at all the cool stuff there. Love the vlogs!
The car jack is actually the bigger version of model t jacks meant for their truck. It's 100 years old and still totally useful. Gotta love that ingenuity.
Happy to see Mr Spike!
Mekhanic1 i could watch spike all day...one cool cat...
MOLY - Chrome-molybdenum?
My guess too. Would be for tig welding.
they are filler rods for brazing
Jimmy, the metal pieces from Phil at CNC Metal Design holds clamps for your welding table. He has pics on his Instagram. Great video today.
A big thumbs up for rocking the "Filson" baseball cap!!! My favorite outdoor gear company. From the beautiful Pacific northwest, a American made clothing company. Their 'tin' pants are the best in the world.
i loved the WTF look the tabby cat gave you lol new york flea markets never thought of them when we were visiting sure wish we had maybe if i ever get back up that way i might check one out and see if it will remind me of of some of the family thats long gone
Yes to the flea market content Jimmy
Thanks Jimmy for another great VLOG. Flea Markets are awesome. Not too many around my area, so I go to the ReStore by Habitat for Humanity when I feel like scrounging. Glad to see you got the U-Weld-It J-Clamp Rack I designed
How excited you are that now you can spray paint your name on small things! 😊
Thanks for posting this! That flea market just got even more popular.
Looks like a lot of cool stuff there!
I think we share the same sickness.
Well it is a sickness that spreads. I love finding tools and things that I have no idea what it is.
Some people are addicted to alcohol or drugs. Me, I'm addicted to flea markets and antique stores.
Hahahahahahahahaha!!!
Hello Jimmy, I write to you from Tacuarembó-Uruguay, I love your channel, I love your works, and I do not miss any of your videos, I do not know English, that's why I'm using the google translator. Haha, do not ever change, and I would love to do what you do YOU!!! YOU ARE A GENIOUS!!!!!!
Those old bottles are awesome. My great, great, great Grandfather was a bottler in Charleston SC and I collect the bottles. If you see a "C.L. Kornahrens Chareston SC" bottle let me know. They are usually 7-8 inches tall and some are blob top and some formed top. But they all are like the green blue hewed color. Thanks man. Great video
Its amazing what you find at those places. Last weekend sound some brand new (unopened) gardening equipment for 1/9 of the actual price in a store.
" *_Some may call this junk. Me, I call them treasures_* " lol
My grandpa has one exactly like that with the box. It is a blast to play with!
Those cats got it good....lol!!!
digging those brass knucks you had up in the background!
Moly - may be molybdenum, which comes in rod form and apparently is suited for cross wire welding of copper and brass, resistance brazing and some upsetting, also welding of braided copper wire to other materials. Just a guess.
Great flea market finds! Our flea market just has 3 day old socks, chipped dinner plates and old homemade cassette tapes :/ Hi Spike!
The axe head you picked up looked like a black raven. Highly collectable. Big $$
You never disappoint Jimmy! Appreciate all the videos this week, it's all been amazing :)
Thanks for the flea market finds, reminds me to get up early and go looking.
Aw man that Rolls Razor is amazing! Thanks for sharing, Jimmy, awesome stuff.
Pretty cool Jimmy! The flea market stuff is great, if you ask me, it could always be in the vlogs! Remember, don't use your shoes in the house! hahaha
Enjoy seeing the flea market finds! Keep 'em coming!
Even the stuff you don't buy, but makes you stop and examine...voiceover?
Makes me wish we had flea markets like that in Finland. Awesome stuff.
Last week at a flea market I found the Kamasa Tools K 25018 (166 pieces), looks almost new and I paid $98 for it.
Also found a Austrian 1953 Halleiner Motorenwerk HMW 50, 50 cc moped engine with a bunch of carburettors for $6.
Looks like you got the guy out there with the bulldozers braking ground. Cool!! 👍
That had to be some of coolest mail I've seen and it seemed normal to him
Hi Jimmy! Not sure if that is cast iron filler rod, but it does exist! I was in Alabama at Sloss Furnaces and there was a welder there that was TIG welding with cast iron filler. So that may be what that is!
Jimmy, I just saw a full bottle of bourbon being etched with a laser at Goddy Goody in Colleyville Texas. That's in between Dallas and Ft Worth.
Any video with Spike is an automatic like from me. Love the Vlogs, Jimmy, keep 'em up!
It's always fascinating to see what you've got from the flea market, it looks an amazing place. Thanks for sharing!
This was awesome!!!! Great video bud!
Brian
Moly is used to add a hard surface to something as protection. IE, on the curved side of a pry bar to reduce wear.
Lasers!!! Lasers!!! Diresta in the future! Love it!!!
Please do more of these I love seeing what you find and what you plan to do with it! It's very inspiring and I have wanted a video like this from you ever since I subscribed years ago. I saw it pop up on my feed and I read the title and said f$ck yeah! Keep it coming and keep up the amazing work!
I so enjoy all the content you put out Jimmy!
My dad has that exact same razor. I have always been amazed at how it works.
Thank you for reinforcing what I've always believed; that there are treasures all around us right under our very noses.
Gran bel video! Always provide many insights into your videos! The latest have been mounted in cinematic style! Great jimmy
another great antique flea market is todds farm in rowley mass, every sunday.
Always love the flea market finds.
Thanks for the shout out dude! Happy to help any time. Glad you're having fun with the laser!
Love the worm gear jack.... especially the spacer! Your videos just get better and better my friend!
I got one just like it. I got mine out of my grandfather's cellar. So I'm guessing they were pretty common at one time. Although I have no clue where it is right now. I just looked in my pile of jacks and it isn't there. It isn't the kind of thing I'd actually use.
I know he said it but there ain't no worm on that there bevel gear jack. What looks like a worm wheel is the ratchet wheel.
I like to watch your stuff youre restoring good job Jimmy
Mad love back at you! You are killin' the vlog game!
That old razor is amazing!!
Nice video. Good stuff at your flea market. I like to see your action videos of your chickens and cats
I had one of those rolls razors. I just love the mechanics of the things from back in the day. They had a need and made a piece of art to fill the need not like todays products they lost the art and craftsmanship. My dad had a lot of those car jacks in all kinds of sizes. I got my fingers pinched a bunch of times lol.
LOVED THAT OPENING!
If all men were like you Jimmy, everything will function properly in all houses. Too bad not everyone has the knowledge and the skills to do what you do. God bless you!
Hey jimmy, have you ever been to the Madison-bouckville antique week? It's coming up august 14-20. We've been going the last few years, it's an awesome time, miles of stuff. Check it out it shouldn't be too far of a drive for you. Keep up the good work.
Our flee market in Oklahoma City is now over time has grown to : Inside is all the new counterfeit items, Outside venders , 60% of them are your garage sale & yard sale types and keeps getting smaller due to all the new fake counterfeit stuff.
Spike is enjoying his retirement in the countryside, a gentleman of leisure.
Love the flea market, great to see how much personal fun and enjoyment you get from your visits :)
Love the Flea Market trips man.
The brass might be used for brazing and the steel rod could be a key for key ways.
Man, the Brass rods... I paid £5/$7 for just ONE brass tube 30cm long. Nice finds.
Good stuff! Looks like a great fleamarket
I loved that podcast. I can't believe how cheap the flea market is. keep it up jimmy
Hey! Just finished setting up my school's new laser. Similar to yours, but it's the larger 24x16+ model. Would love to see more content with it!
Fun video Jimmy. Looks like y'all have a great flea market with lots of variety. Great finds! How many viewers tell you to stop wasting your time and money there?
Cant wait to see the firemen's axe resto!
Love your videos Jimmy, you're a great inspiration
You need to come to Newhampshire they have a massive file market here in Londonderry I think it is every weekend! A ton of stuff and people! They also have some really good food!

I'm impressed by your chemistry skills! :) Mass spectrometers are cool!
Yes to more flea market finds!
oh... too bad I won't be there in a sunday to check it out.
abraços Jimmy!
Problem with flea markets is that I buy things I may or may not need, mostly not need.
Although at a hot rod swap meet, I did score a tuna tower for my boat for $40!
I think you know who needs that giant set of tap wrenches... abom79
Ha ha do the cats ever try to take down a chicken/rooster?
moly as in molybdenum is a metal for high temp applications
Man,that flea market looks like a goldmine! I tried to convince my wife to drive to Maine for lunch one day, so upstate NY isn't much of a stretch...lol.
keep doing flea market stuff. love it.
That razor was too cool.
So what do ya think Jimmy.... gonna get a couple goats for the farm? they will clear out all that brush and tall stuff behind the shop and teepee.
Hurray Spike! Oh, and cool vid too, Jimmy.
That razor sharpener blows my mind!
I love flea markets. Best place to find quality hand tools and often so cheap you feel you're _almost_ getting paid to take them.
That Black Raven though!!!
that razor sharpener is cool! never seen one👍👍❤
Damn! That Black Raven head!!!
Flea market old USA knife brands like marbles, cammilus, Green River will be nice to see...
Always love the flea market finds vids, Jimmy
Wondering why cats love laying down stairs.
