I'm in that area often.. it's crazy how it all becomes "normal" when you grow up around it. I was born in '75 so I actually remember those riots in the mid 80s being reported on in the news. Great information on history in the description, btw
Its Bartram high and Tilden . .grew up on 65th and wheeler .both schools are at the end of my block . Bartram main is a big school . Whent to school there in the early 2000,s

Back in the 70's visiting relatives. There was a big brick building at 70th & Woodland, a few blocks over from Elmwood. GE had a light bulb factory there. I know GE is gone; but is the big brick bldg still there?
70th & Woodland is were my first library still stands, across from the old stone baptist church there, and where St Vincent's Orphanage and home for unwed mothers used to be. Woodland carries the 11 trolley and was cobblestone surfaced until the mid-1970's. The old Fels soap plant was further down off Woodland ave by Cobbs Crick, goin into Darby-Colwyn, at Island road/Parkway, near where the old Pep Boys and Blue Bell Inn near the park. The 1645 Swedish mill and old stone house are still there, and there was a 1777 skirmish battle there vs the Redcoats. Cobbs Creek originally called Karakung (place of the wild geese) by local Lenni-Lenape indians. First American name for that neighborhood section of SWP was Paschalville, long before Elmwood used for all of SWP. and there's much more earlier history bout that area.
@@keiserwilhem5543 the Amazon distro center is on the site of the original GE Switchgear plant, built in 1924. Demolished. At 69th and Elmwood ave, entire block +. The Fel soap plant site now has a gas station, Advance Auto parts, store, and self storage building.
Row houses around 75th and elm wood were built around 1954. I lived there. My grandparents lived on shield st near Bartram. Last time I looked it was rough. Grandma managed a childrens clothing store on woodland ave. That street was a abomination. Shield street had a back alley where you could park and go in the back door.Kind of sad I had fond memories.
@2:00 You can't just put any poop as fertilizer lol They use manure because all they eat is grass. Dogs, humans, and others eat dead animals and chemicals. That is why you don't want your dog shittin in your yard because it actually kills the grass. That lady didn't have grass, she had weeds all over that thing lol
Thanks for watching, I have about 500 tours. Been documenting Philly all corners south, southwest, west, north west, north, northeast and center city Philadelphia for the last 3-4 years, captured over 100 neighborhoods including a lot of south west, and west Philly 🙏🏼 unfortunately I’m leaving Philly very soon gonna be traveling all 48 states so I won’t be around. But I appreciate the kind thought and support, thank you ❤️🙏🏼🤜🏽🤛🏽 have a blessed day 💯🌟
These schools are massive but in very poor condition! Bartram had a gun scare last year and they fight a lot. They don’t take care of these beautiful schools are all that funding and they won’t even provide air conditioning for them. It’s crazy how people only see what’s on the outside. Elmwood isn’t as bad as woodland. Woodland is really bad 🙁 Also I’ve been to the restaurants they cook well but some may be mean to you (Africans) not me but I have seen them treat my friends very rude even down to their food. My friends swear I get better services because I “look” African 😂 whatever that means. Swp needs some help tho it’s bad out there prayers!
I really like your commentary and your humor!
Thanks for the positive feedback and support... some people hate my humor 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🙏🏼 have a blessed day
