A layover at Bahrain can be very intresting indeed. A collection of aircraft out and about at OBBI. Enjoy! Thumbs up and comments are much appreciated!
The memories 😢 This is one of my favorite videos. I used to watch it when I was 4 years old with my older sister. I'm now 15. Thank you for making my childhood so much fun with these aviation videos. My dream is to become an Emirates A380 pilot.
I was 7/8 when I watched this video for the first time, now I have turned 17 just last week. Oh ne of the best plane spotting videos ever! Thanks for this masterpiece!
Man my childhood is connected to this video I watched it when I was 13, please do not delete it. This is the most beautiful plane spotting video. Thank you so much for such video
This video brings back many good memories of working as a pilot for Gulf Air in Bahrain. I flew their B-767, A-320/321, and the A-330 for many years. It was a nice working atmosphere. Good old days. Ma-asalama Gulf Air.
When I was 7 years old then I started watching this video and sometime I still watch this videoduring the leisure time. Anyway, the most significant thing that is to notice in the video is " Emirates", in that time this airlines had A330 -200 aircraft only for about one and half hour duration route, and today whole the world knows that it is the queen of Aviation with more than 100 Airbus a380 aircrafts.
Inspired by you and others. Now I am 15 year old and I am a plane spotter at Bahrain International airport and Jeddah Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦🇧🇭. I WISH IF YOU WOULD SEE MY SHOTS AND RATE THEM 😊😊
We all respect our brothers and friends in Bahrain!! I hope GF coms backto the excellence it once was in the 70's and 80's the Tristars were so luxuroius or so I have read!
@Starboard76 Yes! she's really something as well as the DC-8-60. I really like the tail of GF and particulary the Grand Prix one despite minimal contrast of the deep and light gold.. If GF had only kept the 77W it just could have made it on my film. I'm glad you liked it chief!
First flew Gulf Air in 1979 from LHR to CDG on a brillant TriStar and the servcie was fabulous even on this 45mn flight ! Then many times between HKG/BKK to CDG ! At this time GF ruled the Arabian skies before EK, QR and EY arrives ! Too bad GF didn't keep up with the competition !!
@hmasurg But unlike SV, GF is a small airline that with good management can be turned around quite faster than a giant like SV...concentrating on transit-pax from India to Europe/USA..the GF/AA connection at monster-airport Heathrow?..more A330 into India..also Manila is a big GF destination..huge demand for pino-servants in the gulf..GF seems to have lost the competing edge..no advertisment or innovation. PS love that you play the soundrack from Lawrence of Arabia..lovely video..
Yr spot on. Right now. GF's just having limited routes i.e. Europe, some S Asian, S E Asian, few African & ofcourse M East & A Gulf - thier bread & butter routes. It ceases to be a major player in the region.
@hmasurg Thanks for sharing BAH is a cute nice small airport in the arabian gulf the only problem with it is that is not prepared to the high level of air traffic movement and i loved the united 777 so beautiful but i was wondering does UAL operate flights to RUH and JED and the KAC in this video is much better and beautiful than the first and hope to see videos inside the plane ;) !!!
Thats true..I have head some very good deals in GF businessclass to India and Manila..Emirates tend to be more expensive...pinos and bangladeshi are prominet GF passangers but GFs route net is diminishing..they cut routes(Hongkong,Manila,Shanghai,Athens,etc)...
Thanks for posting your video! I loved watching this, and enjoyed the music as well. I would love to visit Bharain sometime. It looks beautiful with the sun, palm trees, and Mosque in the background. Thank you! By the way, what was that United Airlines jet doing there, at the very end???
@zxzv1 Well Muharag islan and the location of the airport makes it dificult to get reclaimed land imo.. I was always wondering they could make use of land in the south of the Bahrian Island more distal to Sukhair.. I don't know of that is even possible
@hmasurg SIA success story is its management..as is Emirates..mind you when Emirates was born, the dominant airline in the Gulf area was Gulfair..Emirates was created to break gulfairs dominance and give more flights to Dubai who was then (1985) a backwater, an airport where asian and european carriers landed at 0200-0300 in the morning, on the way to/from Europe/Asia. The emir of dubai even locked the gulfair employees out of their downtown office for a while. If the only trick is cheaper
@hmasurg B77W is an ultra longhaul bird...GF routes today can be handled by the 330, the longest are 7-8hours..GF has a weird fleet policy..GF is looking more and more like PANAM..from a dominant gulf-carrier(1985) to an old and bypassed airline in the shadow of EK and QR..my choice flying with them was the price....everything else they are left behind..Bahrain is a nice city but you feel that it is a place of the 1970S boom in oil..
@hmasurg say Karachi or Bombay when Emirates have multiple B777S and A330 to such huge destination..around the clock..mayby Im wrong, mayby there are more pax out of Dubai. Also the schedule must be revamped so flights connect..there are many pakistanis in Athens but the GF flight from Athens have problems connecting with GF small A320S to Lahore or Karachi or Rawalpindi, and bigger problems getting a decent fare..mind you some periods of the year there are no tickets from Athens to Subcontinent
Gulf air should concentrate on a fleet of A330, their A340S are falling apart. But nothing helps if IFE doesn t work...Bahrain is in my eyes a slightly older airport in these days of mega/super airports.
@OjojoHK Many migrant workers living in Saudi, fly to Bahrain to take their flights to Asia & Europe - why, coz. Bahrain airport offers lower landing fees. Ofcourse, if i am able to save and enjoy a drink, etc @ Bahrain airport and other airlines
@zxzv1 Well I am only guessing here.. but I think the location of teh current airport doesnt make space to reclaim land as it is surronded bu resedential areas while down in teh south desert there is plenty of space to explore and build a new hub. Although DOH has room to reclaim land.. i still don't know why they did that there is plenty of empty land in qatar to use.
@hmasurg Thats coz. Doha is competing with Dubai esp. with location, luxury villa's. The way the new airport @ Doha is setup, a 3rd runway or terminal. The other area's in Qatar maybe reserved for other Qatar developement. With the 2020 Football WC in Doha, does'nt make sense to have an airport miles away.
Good job as per the usual. I'm saddened by the slow demise of Gulf Air, it used to be a really dynamic forward thinking airline but alas no more. I flew with them a few years ago to LHR in business and was not impressed. Old planes and crew a bit disinterested. I was wondering if you had any views on them?
Dear Hmsurg, when did you first fly with Gulf air..because they were perceived exatly as you write that they were..seen as an exotic and luxurious carrier who flew to the East..unfortunately I didn t have the opportunity to fly them in the late 1970S..the middle east(gulf) has also open up so you can go there as a tourist today..was much harder before...
@am1966ath Yep. I remember travelling on GF in the 70's & later on their Lockheed tristar's GF Five Star Tristar" thats their slogan that time. Plus, during the mid 80's GF management changed from British/European to more Arab resulting in staff being recruited from North Africa - resulting in lower inflight service.
@am1966ath GF has historically always been in debt.. has it had such a bad management? I know that there in flight product is poor and there is no real competiton with the MEB3.. thier current edge is the cheaper tickets. What can be done to turn it around.. Thanks.. I was hoping you would notice that!
@hmasurg Thanks for the update. Yeah, they can explore that possibility of an airport on a wider scale without re-claiming from the sea. I was wondering if Qatar could do it by reclaiming land & building the New Doha International airport, why can't Bah.?
@MrWahid1969 I agree. I try to think of the old 80's GF with their then luxurious Tristars. I have flown with them a few times short haul (standard) and twice long haul in J class... was not impressed at all.. old planes, poorly maintained and with un-welcoming service. So sad.. they have such agreat livery and potential. They are following in the foot steps of SV.
The airport desperately needs a major upgrade & 2nd runway to handle bigger aircraft. Gulf Air does not fly nowadays to North America. The max. it flies upto LHR, Frankfurt, etc. Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha & Muscat are all upgrading their respective airports. I guess, land may have to be reclaimed from the sea or re-locates some people living on the northern area's on the airport.
You need massive investment to be worldclass..Bahrain airport is old,GF is old and continue to shrink, cutting routes and having a smaller and smaller fleet of mostly A320s flying longhaul??
Awesome stuff here..this must have been what you had up ur sleeve when you sent me that last msg! lol... Henceforth, I stop bitching prematurely! You must have captured half the fleet! The star of the show? The obvious, the Gulf Air Formula 1 A330...nice!
Therfore I don t understand GF using A320 and the one leased B737 on longhaul??..GF can fly the A330 to Riyadh and Bombay..a flight of 2hr but use a A320 on a 6hour flight to Paris??
I think that the owner of Gulfair..the Bahraini government has problems, they don t know what to do with Gulfair...and probably these huge investments in aircraft may not be enough.....Gulfair thrived in a world without much competition...and what competition..
The Gulf-South Asia routes are at least 85-90% capacity. Obviously, Riyadh-Bah fare paying passengers want flights on their dates, which Saudia, AI or Jet Airways dont have. S Asians living in and around the Dammam/Al Khobar area are prepared for the road trip to BAH, for convenient connections back home, which GF is cashing on. Whats the need for B737, A320 when you have an A330 with 300+ capacity. For Europe, by using B737/A320, its a clear thier marketshare is lossing out to QR, EK & EY
@hmasurg They both had their golden years of being a world class, GF used to be the big three of the Middle East (i.e.: Gulf Air, Iran Air, and Middle East Airlines Air Liban) but they all have ceased to be 'world class' due to political restraints.
Iran air become a victim of the iranian revolutio 1979,MEA of the Libanese civil war 1975 and and Gulfair got the competition of Emirates and Qatarairways..unfortunately nothing stay the same and sometime a company can t adapt to competition..look at Qantas,Swissair and Air India...
@hmasurg then the quality will sink and the MEB3 will start lowering their fares, with their multiply flights to the subcontinent and Europe they will soon make Gulf air an irrelevance and with that Bahrains role will also suffer as a business hub, I think..none of the dynamism of Dubai is present in Bahrain. I think that they must improve service and punctuality, and also conncentrate on a few markets, with massive advertisment,campaigns....also use the A330 on big routes, A320 is nothing to
There you go - instead of sending an A330 (capacity 335) with just 100+ passengers & loosing out, might as well use a A320 & save. These are hard times for GF. Have to do something to be afloat. Whats the alternative? Don't think passengers are willling to try Air Bahrain. BTW, BAH has a small airport dedicated for the F! guys. Is it likely to be converted to a International airport down the road?
zxzv1 hey you are a bitch why gulf air will cut route and nobs what is your problem the president of gulf air is managing right so you dont need to worry mad boy so god knows when the plane is going to crash you dont worry about this and pls stop saying bad things about gulf air and its managements if you say one word about bahrain and then I am going to report about you to the king of bahrain and my father is in police so do you need me to tell about you and how dare you say about gulf airs bad managements its soo good ok you are saying gulf air has bad management then its in service I every month fly with this airline to the arab countries ok you shut the bitch offfffff!!

Thank you so much for such video
Thank you for watching and commenting.. Sadly GF is not good as it once was back in the 70's.
Really gulf air is the best airline in the middle East.
Memories , when i was a kid I used to watch this video 6 or 7 times on repeat the night before we traveled
This video brings back many good memories of working as a pilot for Gulf Air in Bahrain. I flew their B-767, A-320/321, and the A-330 for many years. It was a nice working atmosphere. Good old days. Ma-asalama Gulf Air.

I would love a plane spotting like this from the new airport, as I see alot of bad comments about the airport and gulf air! 😉
Very nice :)

Great air line i traveling for Pakistan to Saudi Arabia for umra on date 07 Dec 2016 nice staf & nice lunch and nice dinner
@am1966ath I agree. If the need capacity A333 would be good too.. I don;t know why theu weren't so happy with thier leased 77W.

@THEIZAZO Yeah.. if they are planning to grow they have to make some major expansions
Let's pray GF goes back to excellence as it was around 20 years ago

small aircrafts?? they should go for the new 787 & A350 for their few longer routes. Otherwise, EK & QR will just finish them.
Gulf Air to cut jobs & routes - are we seeing the last rites of GF ?
@OjojoHK GF (as well as SV) had all the potential to be world class, but what we see is far from it.
Sorry, I would protest & pity the FA's have to bear up 6-7 hrs. Its no joke having to cross time zones regularly & perfom their duties
What is the music name?
I don't know
Probably true..what does Bahrain have for businesses today?? banking?
