- In this video, we drop Steve off on a technical small stream that he has never been to and knows little to nothing about. It's early spring and Steve has to figure out how to fool these picky trout with a Euro Rig (and boy does he do just that). As an added bonus he's using the micro-thin leader from our recent Cortland Video. Watch as Steve breaks down complex current seams, how to tune into a hatch, jiggy euro-streamers, and Tuck Casting. After you're done watching the video head over to our website to check out all the new tying tools and materials as well as our huge catalog of offerings.

I have been Euro fishing about 4 years now and have watched a lot of videos on the subject. This is the first video that did a great job breaking down how to solve a “ slow day”. I learnt so much, thanks Steve. Would love to see more videos on tackling tough days.
Hey Paul, we are glad you enjoyed the video and got something out of it! Thanks for watching!
Very informative video, thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas with your viewers. I am going to try these out on my local small streams herd in North Yorkshire 👍
Glad it was helpful for you! Thanks for watching and have fun!
Thanks Steve for one of the best Euro Fishing videos I have seen. Didn’t realize you can fish streamers with a euro rod 👍
You bet John! Jiggy Streamers on a tight line are deadly. Thanks for watching!
Thx for this vid - the commentary describing decision making is helpful to see/understand
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I can see your technique has been influenced by Dom at Troutbitten. "Stick the landing." Best podcast available.
Excellent video. Good teacher here. Learned several new things (and I've been around a while)
Hi Jim! Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching.
Great video Steve - thanks. With techniques that are new to me I spend lots of time saying "I wish I had someone beside me to coach". This video did a great job of that. Also, a great reason to come to AvidMax first when I'm shopping!
Hey Tom, Thank you so much for watching the video and commenting! We are super happy that you got so much out out of this. That was our goal so it's great to hear it straight from our audience! Always more content to come!
Great video. Enjoyed watching your different techniques and explanations about water types. Thanks.
We're glad you liked it! Thanks for tuning in and watching!
Excellent video, lot of practical everyday tips that we can use,,refreshing
Glad you liked it!
Fantastic video. Loved how you took us through your approach and solving the puzzles. Also appreciated the fact that not every cast has a fish take as so many videos do. A nice real day on the water with all the challenges but also with success. Great stuff. Thanks for great content as always.
Thanks Matthew! We're really happy you enjoyed the video and it's format! We love hearing what our audience enjoys seeing & learning.
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome job Steve ! Great video showing us firsthand that fish don’t come on every drift! Really working every inch and changing up tactics will put some fish in the net ! You gotta take what the river gives you , and mix things up ! Big fan of your channel buddy, keep ‘em coming and tight lines !!
That is great to hear! We appreciate the support. Cheers!
Really appreciate this great video. It’s been very helpful for me. I’m new to tight line fishing and found this to be informative.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thanks for Watching, Charles!
Great video ! I learn allot from you guys and I will try all the techniques that you have shown me and try to put them to good use! Thank you
That's great to hear! I hope the knowledge pays off! We appreciate you watching and commenting!
@@AvidMax oh id does ,it does .I may not do it right all the time but I keep on trying !
Good stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it
You can show people these techniques, but until people have a solid base of nymphing, it's lost on them.
Agreed, maybe this video is more of a "201" level class, but hopefully there is value in it for a handful of folks.
Great production bro!!!
Thanks for watching Scott!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Exelente video y con mucha técnica y enseñanza.
Gracias desde chile 8va. Región.
¡Gracias por mirar!
Nice. Learned a lot. Would have liked to see the rigs and the flies.
Thanks for watching, that's a great suggestion for the next vid - more rigging coming soon!
Hey there curious as to what rod details are and exactly how he sets up the micro leader? Is it the leader buried or is he using euro fly line too? Always open to new ideas. So many ways to rig a euro rod!
Hey Dylan, Thanks for watching! Steve is using a Micro Thin Leader formula made with Cortland Materials. We have a video from a few weeks back that provides all the details on how to build a leader just like the one Steve is using here in this video.

Excellent lesson.. can you tell me what that fly box is on top of your chest pack?
That is a C&F small flip page box - I wish I could provide a link but C&F recently made the change to a new model of distribution, so the availability of their products is basically kaput... As an alternative, I would try out some of the newer age small and light boxes, all you really need is the right dimensions to fit on your pack and not too much weight so as not to stress the velcro that holds it in place!
@@AvidMax thanks.. love your content and excellent inventory selection and fast service! Great job!!
Great video! Were you using the Cortland Euro leader you built in your last post? I've ordered the tippet just waiting to receive it - can't wait to give it a go. Cheers
Hey Desmond, Steve WAS using the leader from our Cortland Micro Thin Euro Leader Video! We're sure you're going to love it!
Great video. How do you like that Orvis rod?
I dig it, very versatile and a great size for being able to cover a lot of different water and different techniques. I see myself having this as somewhat of a "one rod quiver" for a long time!
Small piece of water = 4 times wider than our widest streams in the Driftless
Now that is an area we would love to explore!
Are you still on 6x when you are using that jig bugger?
I believe I bumped up to 5x for that to absorb a bit more oomph on the hookset, but 6x wouldn't be impossible. Just want to be prepared for a nice fish - this is more important on rivers where there's some more big fish potential!
How do you making your leader. What material do you use one the reel from start to finish and indicator material.
Thanks Ad
Thanks for watching! Check out this in depth video from Steve outlining his Micro Euro Nymph Leader. ruclips.net/video/V4xx-2Dfpts/видео.html
What box is that on the front of your chest pack? Great content!!
Its a C&F that unfortunately isn't available anymore :(
Best tip I've learned is take one step forward and keep your arm down. Stretching your arm out all day wears you out.
Very true!
"technical small stream" in Ireland, that is a big river, a small stream to us is half the width of the river you are fishing and requires pure stealth movement,
Your small streams sound like a lot of fun! You will have to make a trip out to experience some of our bigger wester rivers as well! Thanks for watching!!
Think you have enough equipment hanging off you?😂😂😂
If you don't have it you will need it...haha!
Not a small stream, at least not in PA.
It's all relative haha. Thanks for watching!
Not what I would call a small stream by any means sorry a small stream to me is something I can step across in spots fishing for wild brook trout and it's very hard to use any fly rod in fact any rod
Creek?
@@AvidMax lol
@@AvidMax creek crick a small stream for slang or in hillbilly
Haha yup - I can appreciate that this isn't really all that "small". I grew up in an area where small streams meant you could spit across them... Maybe next time we'll do a video on water that size!
@@AvidMax thanks great video other wise
Love that you guys are making videos like this!
Glad you're enjoying it, Josh! Thanks for watching!
Nice. Learned a lot. Would have liked to see the flies and the rigs
Thanks for watching, Bob! We will make sure to do a better job of showing those next time! If you're curious about the leader formula we have a great video detailing the benefits as well as how to build the Micro Thin Euro Leader that Steve is using here.

@@AvidMax thanks. i'll watch it. i've been euro nymphing with a 10.5' 3 wt rod rigged with a 3 wt nymphing line with2" sighter and then 5" tippet attached. thinking i'll go back to fishing with leader only. I just don't feel the line gives me as much sensitivity and and control in my drifts. do you agree?
The fly line is nice in some regards, but more often than not I prefer fishing the leader exclusively!
