This has gotta be the best 12 minutes 20 seconds on the entire freaking internet. Jimmy for President. Love ya Jimmy - that’s all the beautiful guitar playing & philosophy anyone needs for today. 🖤🎸✨
Django was a fine musician, and very inspiring to many. He made smoking look cool, too. Love your playing, as usual.

I love Bobby Watson especially with that “New York Stories” album.... Gatton was absolutely stunning on that record. Plus his educational site is awesome. What a great player.
You certainly don’t have anything to prove, but you have a lot to give. That is why I watch you every day, and I enjoy Protean’s comments. My favorite site on RUclips.
i do agree to You, but i got to the point where i am happy that live music is played anyways. i am 22 years old and see too much plastic music around. its become a question of saving the last live music there is. i have a really pessimistic view on music in the future, here in germany it is almost dead from an improvisers perspective. but we'll revive it. who exactly do You mean by "the Django guys"? with all due respect, but Angelo Debarre, Bireli Lagrene, Jimmy and Stochelo Rosenberg, Adrien Moignard, Joscho Stephan definitely do innovate. edit: oh you mentioned Bireli Lagrene and Vignola. nice. i personally think the whole gypsy jazz stuff is means for purpose in a greater jazz context. If you haven't checked out Adrien Moignard i highly recommend him
Ah, Mr Bruno, there is still an audience for what you do. Saturday evening, I and four friends saw the Frank Vignola Hot Jazz Trio in something called the Ignition Music Garage, in Goshen, IN. Maybe 100 other people were there. It was probably the greatest night of music of my life. For two days, the bones at the base of my thumbs were sore from applauding. When I got home, some cretin across the street was parked at the curb, rap a' thundering. "Hey!" I yelled. "Thanks for keeping Western Civilization alive!!!" I got no response. Some people cannot appreciate humor. Thank God for public libraries and the Interlibrary Loan Program.
Jazz guitar is important art medium for music. Does it pay well, not always, but the legacy and your footprint is in fact rich. Think of Mozart, he died broke, but who is Mozart to the world? I don't know just a thought. But I would pay to watch an old guy play jazz guitar. 😂
Great video Jimmy. Well yesterday was my Birthday # 71 Where the hell does the time go. Keep on truckin Jimmy and thanks for the music and common sense too. 👍🙊🙈🙉
some of these guys even try to play his music with only 3 fingers (you think Django wouldn t rather played with all of them if he wasnt be sadly injured ?l.. )
Applies to some more recent guitarists too. Many of the Django comments could be made about Jerry Garcia, Edward Van Halen, or Stevie Ray Vaughan., But you touch upon it, there's a big difference between the copycat who goes backwards and the guy who takes it further and plays in his own voice.
I seem to remember you talking about some non-guitar music you were scoring up. Would/could you post a little of that or any other non guitar pieces? I would love to hear how you approached it. If no, that's cool too. Down with the Django anachronists!
Re: 9:31 ~ 10:34. It's not arrogance Jimmy you are telling the truth which under most instances brutally opposite to what people want to hear. Nothing bitter or arrogant about what you mentioned. Thank you for keeping it real.
not enough jazz of any genre available here now. Thirty-fifty years ago S.F. Bay Area was a hot bed of jazz guitar. everyone in guitar from herb ellis, charlie byrd, barney kessel and more. bruce forman, pat martino, pat metheny, eddie duran, list goes on----
Jimmy, a very good jazz piano friend of mine said that jazz is dead. He ment that Jazz Standards were dead! I think there’a a little truth to this especially in this country!! All the people who knew these tunes have died off, than god for the Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett record!
Jimmy you should run for president in this country you’d probably win. Take a look at this map 1916 in Bonham Texas Charlie Christian was born he lived a short life but he left a few turds and one of these feces spawned thousands of imitators, who have been fucking him in the ass since, and right on his grave! Cmon man... we are all copying each other, that’s how it goes ..interesting analogy but… there’s plenty of great talent out there maybe you’re not seeing it or hearing it. I think you’re funny but your ideology I don’t know man. Have you ever met Stochello Rosenberg? One of the best players the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Try playing one set with this guy, I guarantee you you won’t be able to wipe your ass with your right arm for three weeks after. Anyway I’m sorry I just have to argue with you keep your videos coming I love you playing I always have damn what comes out of your mouth and I don’t even know what to say. Have a good night
Isn't there always the use of vocabulary of musicians that came before? But Fapy's solo's aren't copies of Django's solo's... He may sound closer to Django because he is a manouche (belgian gypsy) like Django was, from that same musical family tradition,so the culture and their mothertongue (romanes) is the same. It's a bit like good Italian jazz guitarists in the US,they also have the same musicality, but personal differences,no? ;-)
Jan De Wilde No not the same thing.Once I establish the key of the tune I have perfect pitch do you? He's playing the same licks that Django played he didn't copy the solo but played the same lines I've heard over and over again.. o but every like he played Django played. One of the strings out of tune to0. Like I said earlier you have to like him not me Djang had great time , this guy..well his time is shakey. Like I said Pitch , time feel...but what do I know ..I'm just a musician who was blessed with a great ear
I don't know what clip you listened to,or where the string was out of tune. It's not my intention to argue.I'm here to learn;thanks for the quick response.btw Fapy played with Harold Alden too and they much respect each other.
ha ha ha ha ya, most of the Jazz guitar students at the Universitie Du Montreal copy poor Django note for note and consider themselves Roots Jazz player! lol, no better than a Led Zepplin copy band to me!

Thanks so much for doing these, seeing reallness like this is inspiring
Birelli Lagrene is a real inovating guitarplayer, full of tradtion of gypsyjazzmusik. But you are right there are a lot of ashkeepers.

I have to get it played first... and it is not free
Another great video.....thanks mr Bruno
haha ....never understood why so many people didn't want to develop their own style...guitar..gardening...lifestyle etc/
I want to hear a f*cking old guy play jazz. I have, and I'll continue to.
Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane , great record ....would love to hear you play " Lush Life" .....

Jimmy I listen every night. Can you play a Beatles tune. Come onnnnn
If every jazz guitarist felt about guitar the way that you do, -the world would be better off- there would be a lot more harmonica players. ;)
