The funny thing about this is the people that don't get that this is just Aphex fucking with us. This is the exact response he wanted. People being like 'oh my god this is so amazing, Aphex does it again!!!'. He obviously didn't spend 20 years on this
Honestly I laughed out loud pretty hard when he finally showed what it sounded like and assumed that
Im sure he can do incredible things with this. Its just built for a workflow that only he has
can't we just appreciate an original approach to sampling software without trying to make richard seem like a 4d chess galaxy brain super wizard lol
Is nobody else a little disappointed with this? Considering the complexity of the parameters provided, I find that the plugin struggles to make anything that sounds particularly interesting, making a v. basic sample masher in Max MSP yields more exciting results. I do love the analog feel to some of the glitches it provides but that's about it... I think there is no way this has been in collaboration for over 20 years, that would be completely insane
If AFX was a dial up server 😋
😂😂
I tried this and like it! Worked nicely with short samples
Installed and I already love it! i’m going to be using it to make myself drum samples and create experimental percs and shakers and distorted noises to use. He also talks about using 303’s to match any loop. you can use it at a very basic rate without all the buffers and extreme modulations !
Yeah I can’t wait to make some samples with it
Yeah ...same!
Your music will be so much better when you use this.
Wtf this is RDJ at his best, prankster. He’s probably just doing it to see if someone can actually make anything musical using this.
Or just a load of kak, I won’t be praying at the alter of the Analord for this though.
You’ve got mail……mom get of the phone!!!! I’m surfing the America online
20 years for an application that someone proficient in SuperCollider would be able to slap together in an afternoon...
that's what I'm saying! There's no way this was developed across 20 years. Also, I love Aphex Twin and must admit that I normally will love anything he does without much critique, but I have not been impressed with the capabilities of this plugin. I know it's free so no complaints there but was expecting something way more powerful.
they saved the best version for premium users
@@calumvaughan8690 im pretty sure this plugin/story is satire
The sound of Data. Pretty raw!
Okay, quickest way I got cool sounds out of this in 5 minutes aside from making glitchy effects:
1) Load a drum loop in the target sound
2) Put whatever you want syncing up to the beat. I like using video game samples.
3) The brain/target is the mix for the drum track.
4) Mess around with the sliders while recording output in Audacity.
”Trololololol” - Richard
Man, it's amazing!!!! I'm into noise music, great tool! Thanx a lot! Hope to see Devine's work too)
Don’t thank me, thank Aphex and Dave Griffiths
@@AlessandroMastroianni I'm thanking for your review!
I have installed this application. But haven't used it yet. After your videos, I will immediately start experimenting! It's an indispensable utility, as far as I can see.
@@Sonmz it’s a lot of fun
@@AlessandroMastroianni Yeah! Diggin' it right now) 👍
Love that hi hat loop 😇
Ha! Thanks, modular synthesis madness
Reminds me of that "Major breakthrough!" moment in some tv show in the 90s , I think.
😂
Just downloaded.....this is interesting to say the very least. I think I'm going to have to get super creative to make this work for a certain sound I'm going for.
Looking forward to trying it out myself. From what I've heard so far, seems it's not really trivial to hit close to the target, which is kind of the novelty of it. 'Grains' seem very large like a couple hundred ms, which I can only imagine makes it easier to generate the spectral profiles, but at the same time making it hard to hit a target sound, effectively by the resolution in time being very low. Is grain size (or whatever it may be called) adjustable?
I need to study the manual, really looking forward to dig deeper into the repository
@@AlessandroMastroianni Yea me too, and I bet if it does what it says on the tin, and the software license allows for it, someone is already busy making it into an automatable plugin for DAWs :)
Definitely
Well I surmise you have enough sense and artistic awareness to not sound like him . This demo is about as aesthetic as dressing up in the Emperors new clothes and throwing vomit at a wall 🙏🎩
@@desoconnor7445 hence "demo", not "performance".
Sounds like my 26k6 fax/modem
cool
🤯
lmao the giveaway is the comic sans
I didn't even notice 🤣
feed it long samples or even entire traxx and njoy the cheesegrater effect :)
Oh absolutely
Somewhere on the internet I found a site where you can listen to what a broken hard drive sounds like. That sounds very similar.
😂
Got zero sound of it, anyone has experienced the same? samples seem to be proccesed (and the brain also). But nothing appears when pressing play :/
Apologies for the potentially stupid suggestion but have you loaded a target and clicked on generate blocks?
@@AlessandroMastroianni have done that but still no sound
Yes I did
Same happened to me. After loading the brain contents, click regenerate blocks and look at the bottom left. There is a percent sign that shows the rate that the wav files are being processed. Once it has fully loaded, click play. Clicking regenerate blocks/regenerate brain then play repeatedly will reload it to zero. Having many samples may take longer to load. Idk this just worked for me.
@@signorablu Everything loaded correctly according to the text on the left bottom. But still no sound at all
I hope they make it for android for us caustic 3 users
Do/Did you work for Bleeding Fingers? I noticed the BF tag on the orchestral stuff. I used to as well.
Occasionally :)
help i don't know how to run it 😭😭😭
Nvm downloaded the wrong thing lmao
just like a dial up modem
on a mac with high sierra, insta crash every time I load it, any ideas?
awesome intro. but how to set the audio device?
Not sure you can!
Hold the Command key, type Queue, select audio device, then close the Queue list.
@@DonSolaris What do you mean by "type Queue"?
If this is neural network based, it may actually get better over time, extremely rapidly, as it is tuned in certain direction. I'm still new to it, but as someone who might be a self aware a.i., I'm very interested in where this goes.
I think there are clear sign that if anything it's designed to be run within a neural network
its def not. fft comparison algorithms have been around for a while
@@archangel4597 that's too bad. Imagine a stable diffusion. Type thing where you just punch in "snare" or "marimba" or "fleshy squelch" and it returns an audio file based on a trained set. That would be next level, and honestly probably easier than a lot of the stuff neural ai is doing with text and visuals and song continuation.
You haven't realised that the whole thing is a joke?
@@GeorgeL909 Look into Harmonai by Stability AI.
Beautiful symphonic input...."let's see what happens here"....rrrrrrrrrrrr a.k.a another 32/64 note retrigger.
Not convinced Mr. James, I'm not convinced.
If you load that same sample in Reaktor's Grainstates from, I believe it was 1999 or 2000, you get much more interesting results.
I’ll take the “beautiful symphonic input” 🤣
So beautiful sounds go in, and stuttering garbage comes out.
We’re being trolled.
yep nuts but fun! Any idea how to record?
Loopback!
@@AlessandroMastroianni yep got it. The issue was having the M1 version so went for an older version and all seemed to work on my old Mac!👍
Awesome!
how did you get it to be grey and not white with comic sans??? hahah
How do you preview audio clips like that in mac? Every time i try to preview sounds it opens iTunes
press space!
Press space bar
Hahahaha, you have a mac
how do you download the bianry into an app ?
The binary is an installer, just allow opening from unidentified developers if you’re on mac
how can i get it to output consistently... it goes for like 1 second then stops. one second then stops.
Looks like its stupidly CPU intensive. If you hit record the playback sounds sweet but the real time sucks if your pc is ass. I guess cut this shit up load it into dance diffusion, feed it back into this shit, cut it up, make some magic?
Can't get mine to work. No sound is ever created. What am I doing wrong?
are you in Win 64 bits? Reported issues
As much as I love aphex twin , I recognise it's basically goddamn impossible to sound like him in any real capacity.. so why even try to be honest.
Agree to an extent… what I would use this for is to make a bunch of interesting samples
It's not made so you can sound like him, its just a cool tool to use in your tracks
Exactly
@@philby6690 I understand that ✌️
idk man, RTR gets pretty close
Yeah i get no sound, I did exactly what it said... maybe it just doesn't like wav files idk
I was using wav though
Read the directions in the gitlab. You have to chose tracks than regenerate brain than chose shorter track and than regenerate blocks. If your not hearing anything than you likely have to redownload the latest m1 version if thats your chip.. good luck! I was confused as well at first!
intersting, I am using windows...
try running the exe as an admin, load stuff into the brain contents and re-gen it, then load the target and re-gen that. my target track is around 9 seconds long, and the brain contents are shorter than that, i don't know if the length of the wavs has anything to do with it, but it potentially could. also try to mess with the global volume knob at the bottom, i heard sound after clicking on it ^_^
it's like the aural version of Cobralingus
It's a window licker generator
It kind of is 😂
Bleep😂
Didn’t Tom Erbe make this already?
if you're thinking about Morphagene, yes I thought the same, although the concept is quite different
Morphagene is more of a granular looper in a tape sense.
this seems more like a textural synthisizer
@@magnopere sure, this has many sounds that remind me of granular synthesis though. In fact, in many ways it IS granular synthesis (blocks=grains).
non sono riuscito ad installare...macbook pro inte
Verifica che stai installando il binary giusto come mostro a 0:26, intel e non m1
I can’t run it of my iMac?! Is it because I am running macOS Monterey? Please someone help a technologically challenged soul….
windows?
Should be an identical process, just choose the Win installer under binaries?
No only window licker
Ooooh .. Interesting *COME TO DADDY!!*
maybe he should spend another 20 years on it?
😂
As much as I love Aphex this sounds wack! It just sounds like a stuck buffer being pitched up and down (or a simple groove~ object in MaxMSP being randomly controlled [loop points, pitch, amplitude]). Maybe under the hood it's a lot more interesting than that, but the resulting sound is very underwhelming (to my ears). Strange! Another prank from our Cornish genius, perhaps?
Ha! Do consider that this is me downloading it and playing it for the first time… I’m sure that there’s a lot to be done with experimentation and experience, once you learn what to feed it. Even then, I think for glitch-based stuff it could be fun. Looking forward to digging into the repository
But yeah, not going to use it in my next pop record
@@AlessandroMastroianni Ok Fair!
Maybe it is a prank… he did use comic sans for the interface after all! 😂
You might try messing with the Block Size and Block Overlap parameters if you weren't in this video. I was getting some interesting vocoder- and granular-type sounds...more smearing less discrete chops. I was also using 3-4 WAV files in the brain.
No affection with Aphex Twin.
all these files and shit i dont even know which one ACTUALLY is the app
Are you talking about GitLab? The installers are under "Binaries"
@@AlessandroMastroianni I got the zip from GitLab, and i also downloaded the samplebrain_0.18.2_win from the readme. Now when i click samplebrain exe it opens, and then closes again. Is this the windows 64bit issue that was mentioned in the readme or did i do forget something?
@@AlessandroMastroianni Also, i do not have a folder named binaries in the GitLab zip... Should i check again? :D I did not find it.
@@dvsi9992 they changed the folder since I shot the video, I just released a new one today with more detailed info:ruclips.net/video/lvO-Z3ap7Bw/видео.html
That's just a buffer effect.
It's just the most basic granular engine lol is it not? 😅
ha woah banging, I think, yerrrr. but, yeah I think ill leave that shit to the man. (and carry on using his stuff as brainfoder) I mean it does look full on fun as far as rabbit holes go, but.. reckon some liberty caps and a few well spent hours on the a moor or beach could do similar. And I reckon yer man was lying when he said 2 days later...
The walkthrough video by uisato demonstrates the capabilities much better than this one, although it doesn't walk through much.
very true. i don't think he really gets any quality settings going here
I don't get it.
It is crap some times crap is good if you have access to nothing else. 😊
meh...sounds like GranuLab from the late 90s....actually GranuLab sounds better.
Now that I understand it a bit better (see my other video), I can say I respectfully disagree. I think you can get some really interesting results out of it.
@@AlessandroMastroianni so...why then post a video of something you have no clue how to use yet? just to try to be first? sick of people rushing to shoot a demo or "first try" with something they dont know how to use. pointless.
you basically misrepresent the product.
