  • Birthday dive at Cenote El Pit!!!
    Incredible session and so grateful to be able to celebrate another year of living by diving down to this stunning underwater world that continues to mesmerise me.
    Cenotes are definitely a must-dive for those that enjoy the water. It has so much unique experiences to offer compare to the ones you get in the oceans. The calm, crystal clear water, the light beams, the groups of fish that come to nibble your legs and feet, the halocline where fresh and salt water meet, the hydrogen sulfide cloud with tree branches protruding out of it...
    El Pit (the Pit) Cenote is located inside the Dos Ojos Natural Park, 22km north of Tulum. When we went in March 2022, it was only accessible with licensed diving instructors (thank you Esteban for taking us there). We drove through the jungle on a bumpy dirt road (along with many funny hand-drawn signs), and arrived at the opening of the sinkhole surrounded by green trees, with steep wooden stairs leading down to the entry point of the water.
    The main cave is about 40 metres which was where we did our training. And towards the entry point there is a 10-metre cylindrical cavern with oval-shaped opening, which was where most of our fun dives where filmed. At about 12 metres, there is the halocline layer where salt and fresh water are mixed (it's very interesting to dive through it, you can't see much like your eyes are out of focus)! And at around there is the foggy layer of Hydrogen Sulfide formed from decomposing trees fallen from above the Cenote.

    How long can you hold your breath underwater to the max and how deep free dive with and without fins?

    • @NotSuperwomanSusie
      @NotSuperwomanSusie  Год назад +3

      Static breath hold about 5min and depth to 50m.
      But they both depend on a lot of things... I can kick down with fins or pull down a line to 50 metres but can't really swimming down and up only with my arms and legs to too deep without killing myself 😄

      Hi Nael, sorry I just saw your comment. Are you still in/near Tulum and looking to freedive?
