- We chat with the cast of Prime Video's new fantasy series, #TheLordOfTheRings: #TheRingsOfPower about what fans can expect from the highly anticipated series, their reaction to the culturally diverse casting and what happens in their cast group texts.
Set thousands of years before the events of 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings', the series is based on author J. R. R. Tolkien's history of Middle-earth. It begins during a time of relative peace and covers all the major events of Middle-earth's Second Age: the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men. These events take place over thousands of years in Tolkien's original stories but are condensed for the series.

Ismael Cruz Cordova said it best in his response to what does the multiculturalism of the cast bring to the series! The series has always been about otherness and difference, and the power of bringing tribes together.

This show is a perfect representation of what NOT to do when creating an interesting story.
-Galadriel is bland and annoying
-The story is just wrong
-And the “diversity” case is just stupid here. The way humans (and presumably other humanoids) evolved was that in areas with more sun, more melanin and such darker skin evolved. I cannot for the life of me understand what a south lander looks like generically.
This was a terrible corrupting of something I hold very dear, and as they perfectly put it: “they don’t want a garbage version of that story.” And they’re right. We don’t.
