As someone who almost exclusively plays jrpgs and farm sims, I loved this direct. I get why people didn't but I have not been this excited about games in a while. I have over 100 hours in octopath traveler and it is one of a handful of games I completed every single quest for and it is the whole reason I purchased a switch in the first place, so I am so psyched for a new one

The name Harvest Moon is owned by Natsume who originally published those games in the US. The developer that made them (Marvelous!) got bought by XSeed who had their own publishing arm. Since Natsume owned the name, XSeed had to change the name for US localization and Natsume started pumping out games under the Harvest Moon title on their own.

Bob, thank you for acknowledging the privilege you have in owning multiple consoles, PCs, Switches, etc. Sometimes I think content creators promote the illusion that it is normal to own and have access to everything which is, unless it is your job, a questionable priority to promote and just something that is not viable for the majority of people.
It is fair though to point out where ports are unsuccessful and especially when they look lazy because we know hard work can yield more and there are plenty of great games designed for the system or excellent ports to play.
And please can we bring death to cloud versions please. Talk about a cash grab.
I played the Octo demo and I realized that is was just way too dialogue heavy for me. I love how it looks but 80+ hours of that much jabbering. Nope nope nope. Wait but I’m excited to get Persona 5R…contradiction.

Fire emblem 3 houses was a game that I didn't really think I'd like. However, I ended up getting it because I wanted to know the story before I picked up fire emblem warriors 3 hopes, and man was I blown away. That game is just amazing. I have a really hard time finishing games, especially if they're 60 plus hours long, but I finished this one through to the end as I was determined to experience the story in Scarlet Blaze. I played as the professor of Black eagles, and lemme tell ya, there were some curve balls in there that I just did not expect AT ALL. The game is just amazing, both in it's story, and in it's gameplay (although after a while I found the persona esq gameplay loop a bit monotonous). My next goal is to play fire emblem Awakening on my 3DS, and I think I'll be picking up this new one as well when it comes out (pending reviews anyway). I also have not finished the other two house playthroughs, nor the secret path for black eagles if you accompany edelgard to the empire. But it's a goal of mine for sure. It is really long tho lmao

    • @patrickcollier7090
      @patrickcollier7090 2 года назад +1

I am almost through with my final playthrough of all four paths in three houses. Even through I am a huge fan of the game, I will say that doing all the paths is a lot, primarily because you have to play through all the content before the time shift in each new playthrough and that barely changes with the different paths. Even some of the stuff in the post time shift is slightly the same unless you go with the secret black eagles path. My recommendation for a second playthrough is go with the Black Eagles again and do the secret path or do the Blue Lions because there are a few twists in that storyline that involve characters from the Black Eagles and add some deeper layers.

As the trailer was going it was like "the warrior . . . the dancer . . . the scholar" and I was like are all these going to be the same and it just kept going for all 8. I was quite disappointed with how this September's Nintendo Direct turned out there for multiple reasons. My biggest disappointments with this September's Nintendo Direct were that *_*no*_* DLC was announced for the _Mario Party Superstars_ video game (or for the _Super Mario Party_ video game, for that matter), nor any new Mario Party video game was announced there. Also, I was really disappointed there that *_*no*_* new mainline Mario or Donkey Kong video game was announced there. Finally, I was emotionally bummed out there that *_*no*_* new information was announced for the Mario movie (i.e. release date, what Mario and Luigi are going to sound like, etc.). Therefore, this September's Nintendo Direct was quite a letdown for me!

Like a Dragon is the Japanese name of the series of games that is known as Yakuza here. And the newest game Yakuza: Like a Dragon combined the titles of both regions. Like how Resident Evil VII: Biohazard did. Biohazard is the name of the Resident Evil series in Japan, and hilariously they did the opposite there and called it Biohazard 7: Resident Evil.
So for some reason, probably to keep the series more distinct here or to capitalize off the last game, they kept the Japanese name of the series when localizing Ishin. But it's all the "same series".
Also, the name of the dev has always been the name of the series: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Like a Dragon Studio.

I'm pretty sure they're releasing Tears of The Kingdom in May because their Fiscal year ends in March and Furukawa said they won't release any new hardware in this fiscal year. But May 2023 is a New Fiscal Year, they will release the New Zelda Game optimized for the New Hardware, playable on the current one. I also believe that's why they're not showing much gameplay, because they want to showcase as much as possible with the new hardware. I even believe that the game is probably done, maybe just having some final touch ups.. but thats it... Metroid Prime 4 same thing, they will want to showcase with the new hardware!

Like a Dragon: Ishin! is a Yakuza spin-off. "Like a Dragon" is actually the real name of the series but it was localised as "Yakuza" for the West so now they're just using the same name. The main character we saw in the remake trailer just looks like Kiryu from the mainline games because it's meant to be his ancestor Miyamoto Musashi who was also a real person. The game Wood was thinking about was Yakuza: Like a Dragon which featured an entirely new protagonist named Ichiban and is very different from the previous games but still also a mainline entry. The guy with the eyepatch is a Majima stand-in. He's in every game as a recurring character - and sometimes a main one - that mostly serves as comic relief or as an antagonist/obstacle for Kiryu.

Sorry my friend, but the Switch is a little long in the tooth and has been since it was released. Not sure why you would even consider getting any third party game on it, especially when you have a Series X. And Tunic is even on GamePass...

Also I totally agree with the fact that the Switch was superb device in the earlier days, but not anymore because of the Steam Deck, other handhelds ans (Xbox) cloudgaming on your mobile phone. I think that also explains this direct. De Switch is in the same era as the Wii was in the end. It also explains why Nintendo promoted more adult games in the beginning.

53:11 I for one will not stand for the Theatrhythm slander! For real though, the artstyle is one of my favourite things about the series. And rhythm games generally are "playable soundtracks", so I don't really see the point of that statement.

Wood jumping into Atelier Ryza 3 without playing the previous two might not be a great idea… the game is about the return of the Ryza1’s cast.

RGG announced a little while back that Yakuza, as it was a name SEGA slapped on their games to "westernise" the series that the real name of Ryu ga gotoku directly translated is actually.... Like a Dragon, so it IS a Yakuza game, the only thing theyre doing this time is instead of giving us LaD:7 Gaiden, theyve taken the 7 off in the west /shrug

    Super cool prequel, recommend it

  • @cafirize

Crisis core is a prequel yes, it's a couple of years before 7 happens (well at least most of it is), and they're friends yes, because if you've ever played og 7 they do say that Sephiroth was a war hero, he wasn't evil from the beginning. Then things happened and he went cray cray lol but yeah that's it without spoiling too much. I was actually really happy to get the release date for that, it's been locked in to PSP for waaaay too long.

I’m excited for this year. We are getting Mario and Rabids, Bayonetta 3, and Persona 5 Royal in October. November we are getting Pokemon Violet and Scarlet and Sonic Frontiers. December, we are getting Final Fantasy Crises Core, maybe Persona 3 and 4 if that is confirmed. Then January is Fire Emblem. Lots of games just a crappy direct because we know what is already coming out.

I liked the direct but to be fair, I am a big fan of strategy and farming/life sim games. I like RPGs although I am not as big a fan of the typical JRPG formula as I am with more western style first person RPGs.

You describing playing a game that is like 100 hours and you've done 3 quests. I feel that. I just generally don't play those kinds of games anymore. I don't have time and I'm a disabled stay at home mom. I would love to play The Witcher. I've had it for forever. I've never played it. Indie games are practically the only games I play because they are the only games I can play and FINISH.
I could play an hour here and an hour there on the longer format games... but my ADHD is gonna kick in at some point and I'm never going to finish the game cause I'm going to get distracted by another game that grabs my interest.

It's so weird that gamers always sound so intense and almost angry and resentful, when having all of these options and countless games are INCREDIBLE to have. Not saying I don't sound like that sometimes, but maybe as gamers we should dial it down and just be grateful for all the amazing options we have these days.

I like my RPGs but waaaaay too many of these retro-styled adventures. Call me overly indulgent, but I like my RPGs in the AAA, super-epic realm of Xenoblade, FF, etc. And can we calm down on the farming, Nintendo?
