    Sofie,
I watched this video almost daily several weeks before our trip to Italy. It was so helpful and actually was enough to converse with almost everyone. The people there were extremely friendly and appreciated the effort I had taken to speak their language. I think it helped make our two week trip easier, and a lot more fun.
    Grazie,
    Janie

My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

Like Annalisa Scarrone, Francesca Michelin, Giorgia (singer), Erica Mou, Emma Marrone, Fabrizio De André (dead, but a true genius with streets and schools and places with his name), Cristina Donà, Francesco De Gregori...they are some of many.

True. I noticed that it's used not only int german language countries but even in France and also in eastern Europe.
I thought they were similar words but they were not actually, since it is a linguistic influence of italian immigration in those other european countries.

I visited Italy for the first time earlier in 2017 and had only learned prego as "you're welcome", which was so confusing when waiters would bring food and say prego, I was thinking "was that a really sarcastic 'you're welcome' because they had to bring it to me? Was I meant to do something else and I annoyed them?" so I would definitely recommend anyone else learn multiple meanings of words like prego too!

These will take some practice. I am beginning to realize why Italian is known as one of the romance languages (especially when spoken by a lovely lady).

Your Italian is great, no doubt. But remember Italians count differently. They start with their thumb as most Europeans. I asked clearly for two tickets in Paris (and showed two fingers...with thumb makes three!)...and received three (at the Eiffel Tower). I went back with no problem! Grazie per tutto!

That s true but we use thumb for 3 ( while Americans do 3 using index medium and ring and holding thumb and pinkie together) and 5. So when we say 2 we show index and medium and hold ring and pinkie with thumb) Ciaoo 😉

: Comparatively speaking, English is one of the easiest languages to learn----Italian may seem easy, considering that every letter is enunciated as it appears. However, the grammar is unbelievably difficult. Unlike English, adjectives in Italian, French and most Western European languages must agree with the noun, depending on the gender. Then, there are a million and one exceptions. For example, the word hand is "mano". Typically, words that end in "o" are masculine----however, "la mano" is feminine, ending in "o".
The tenses ( verbs) are as intricately mind-boggling as they come. Yet, the language is the most melodious and beautifully poetic sounding, in the world!! I speak it fluently, as I do French----Nonetheless, French does not hold a candle to Italian---too guttural; as is German.🤗🙋

Yes, you're right, especially more formal expression. We tend to use the impassive form. I've learned this playing "Words of Wonder" in Italian. The definitions usually translate to something like "it is used by a cook for making polenta." In English we just say "a cook uses this for making polenta." The good thing about the app is that it tends to repeat questions so the more unfamiliar ones are becoming retained in my strange brain that needs to use, rather than rote memorize.

    Salve Sofie,
I found this video very useful a few weeks back when i came to Italy for a short break, I wrote down quite a bit of it to help with my stay, out of curiosity would you recommend the B&B Hotel's, I found the one in Milan very good and hope to visit Turin and Rome next year and thought about using them,
    Regards Mick
